Epikt Wins the 1st MechSpaces "Top of the Flop" Challenge

Recently, during a discussion about highest DPS builds out there it was suggested, by Skribs, that we have an.... odd... challenge and I think it's a great idea; so, we present

The Top of the Flop Challenge...
The Best of the Worst,...
The Toque of the Fluke...

Please note that this challenge is only open to REGISTERED MechSpecs members.

The Rules

- Any chassis you wish
- Solo dropping only please (your word is your honor right?)
- 0 (Zero) Armor on the mech (FRAPS will show you dropping with a 0 armor mech)
- Any weapons you wish
- Kills + Assists MUST = 8 (3 kills + 5 assists = 8, 1 kill + 7 assists = 8 etc)
- Your mech MUST survive the match

FIRST ONE TO COMPLETE THE ABOVE AND SUBMIT WINS

Also, screenshots are not good enough. We need a screenshot of the mech you are using in the mechlab and then you can FRAPS the match once you have dropped. Trying to FRAPS from the mechlab and into the launch causes a crash for some reason.

What if you can't use FRAPS? That is too bad as we will only be accepting FRAPS'd matches with enough definition that we can verify that 0 armor was used and that you dropped in a pug match.

If you can pull this off then you are truly one of the better pilots out there because this challenge isn't designed to be easy, this challenge is designed to see who can survive like a champion!

If several people manage to pull this off then we'll make a Hall of Fame post or something that details who managed to succeed on this, and other future challenges, with proof of their actual matches (links to their YouTube FRAPs of the event etc).

OTHER NOTES AND INFO

If you want to submit videos of your epic deaths that is cool too. We could do a montage of the worst deaths, explosions, failures and FUBARs possible

 

I like this idea! I am going to try in a Commando or a Spider or something as I think it has the best chance.

Crap, I can't do it. MWO and Fraps don't work well enough together to even get one kill, never mind 8..........

Sorry Morgie! While I realize this limits things, to people with better laptops or medium to high desktops, the spirit of the challenge is to see players doing things and not just seeing a screenshot saying "Wow, look what I did. Can I haz cookie now?".

Also, you don't need to get 8 kills. You just need either the total number of assists + kills to = 8.

 

Yeah if I have FRAPs running when I click launch, I won't get into the game before CTD.

 

All I can suggest is that you try launching the game, alt tabbing and then launching FRAPs.

Some people are going to be hardware restricted and that really is too bad as it will eliminate many good potential participants.

 

You can have fraps open before you drop - you cant record before the score screen comes up and the match begins -I.E not in the mechlab and into the match - after the black screen after loading screen = A-ok!

I'm gonna be working on one as soon as my kid is asleep. I already have them mastered so just need to load up ECM and an ERPPC and some serious JJ

I just tried on a twin-PPC spider. Believe it or not, this thing actually works well.

 

Wish I could try it. I can't afford to get the full version of Fraps right now. Great idea though!

Ok this has NOT been easy to do!!!

I've gotten close twice but always seem to get clipped by that last little asshat with whom I need to score a touch.

Closest I've gotten is 1 kill 5 assists and then SMACK the Stalker splatted me.

UPDATE:

Got another 1 kill 5 assists and survived this time (I have a fraps of it)

It is NOT easy to make sure you hit everyone without getting smacked yourself.

 

had a run in my jenner ( actually its a K not a D , but the loadout is the same ), I think I managed to 'tag' all the enemy mechs, and managed to provide a little distraction. Sadly I was on the losing side, and actually tried to attack a jenner....

Current score 0 ( I died, we lost ) - kills 0 assists 2 (only two enemy mech fell )
Attempt 2: Score 0 ( I died) kills 0 assists 5
Attempt 3: score 0 ( I died - last ) kills 0 assists:2 ( we only got 2 kills)
Attempt 4: score 0 ( I died ) kills 0 assists:2 ( we got 3 kills)
Attempt 5: score 7 ( I lived! we won! ) kills 0 ( so close too many times) assists 7 ( of 8 kills )

Rather than keep posting, I'll edit this post with scores of attempts, and video ( when it is deserving )

EDIT: Upon thinking about it, having at least 1 kill should be part of it

Edit: one of my issues here, is that I'm a light 'fire support' mech and should be playing like one, holding back like a 'pult but using my speed and manouverability. however 'playing it safe' is unlikely to get the kills/assists needed. Enemy lights are also a huge problem.....

 

It's not easy indeed.
The trickiest being: 1/ being able to shoot everybody before they're killed, while not exposing yourself to much, not every game allows that even if you play well, and 2/ other lights and anti-lights (I remember meeting a streakcat, outch).

I'm running a dual PPC spider, I had few 1 kill + 6 assists or 7 assists, I'll upload the video if I can't do better.

 

First attempt in trip ppc 3D, 608 dmg, 2 kills, 5 assist.... FUCK where was that 8th assist...

I recorded it, I'll upload it... doubt I'll try again, but it was fun. Maybe once a day or something.

 

This has taught me a few things.

Feather those jump jets like a mofo legs with zero armor can crumple
Make sure you know where everyone is at all times
REALLY use cover to your advantage lol

I agree with soy. Couple times a day and that's it. No point grinding for hours and hours
