Disenchanted with the developers of MWO?

Actually I had multiple people attack me ala ad hominem, and attempt to undermine my credibility. My original post was brutish, sure, but it's just an opinion. I also mentioned being disturbed by the audacity of some of the claims by white knights and players without a lot of perspective. That was literally the extent of my original comment, which was then prodded into a larger explanation. Which contained nothing fiercer than "lot of cryhard comments" in response to the 'go play legos or gtfo' drivel. More importantly, it contained more rambling wisdom than you've ever gained in your entire gaming life.

Evidence? I need evidence to state my opinion about the state of the game, and general speculation about its development? Did you read my post? It is the embodiment of evidence. It is objective as fuck; again, at no point in my big post did I point my finger at PGI about anything except for the data mining that their tournies are. At no point did I allude to some sort of agenda or desire of the game to be a certain way to benefit myself or other specific players or playstyles. Now, facts are... My perspective comes from a much more knowledgable place than yours. Is that more important? Is it worth merit? Not really, no, not publically. Which is why we're at a standstill of sorts and this is descending into ad hominem now. But personally? Privately? Your opinion means dick to me and vast majority of players cuz I have never seen you in anything competitive in this game. Take that for what it's worth; I wouldn't lose sleep over it if I were you.

You do realize there is a huuuuuge town hall meeting going on with 100s of players on Goon mumble at the moment, right; the biggest community engagement in this game to date, so it's sort of difficult to go between your fodder bait comments here and the swarm of shit on the meeting.

That's cool cuz never seen you do anything in this game, which is quite easy to dominate. Never seen "Leonhart" in anything. Never... and this is the exact opposite of a truly competitive game; if you're serious you would be aware of this and at least acknowledge it.

How the fuck am I enjoying bashing people when I have people telling me to "go play legos or gtfo" when I simply state that the current game we have, is trash, and living on the basis of MW IP. That's literally the entire fulcrum of the game and the allure and future health of the game hinges upon it being used correctly in CW. I get shit on for stating this, fine. That's not what this is about, though -

We've got a lot of responses so far and surprisingly, nobody is actually refuting the critique of the game I made. That's the only disappointing thing in an otherwise mildly amusing thread turning into a cryfest; I was hoping for someone to uncover some other perspectives to uncover more truths about the game. Oh well.

I said it in my first comment regarding your simplified "the game is shit" post, that it was flaws. And you decided to elaborate on it.

The definition of a "shitty game" is not up for discussion because as you said a few times, we talk about opinions.

The elaborated flaws you mentioned are valid and I may or may not sit down to address your points, but considering your condenscending tone in some of the posts, I am afraid that my replies may be biased towards the negative.

As for taking things up with Michael, not my style and not my place, as you did not insult or attack me directly.

Everyone is allowed to state their opinions here; that is the whole point of this area of MechSpecs. Well, that and to provide a place where people can discuss mech builds and min/max in an organized manner (the o-forums are horribly organized for that).

Can we all behave? Of course we can. There are Goons who use this site and behave like adults; hell I even know of two people (as close to mortal enemies as someone can be on the internet) who come here and act like reasonably mature adults.

This is an area where anyone may say how they feel, or what they think, as long as it isn't attacking other players. So, with that said I am going to say "simmer down, everyone".

Save the bickering and bullshit for the battlefield.

The tone makes the music. By saying the game is shitty you attacked PGI. Its still a free2play game. You are not forced to pay cash to play it. If you want to then its like a donation. We can talk about the meaning of Beta.Phase of today and if it is right what the devs intentions are and what that means for the durance of game development of today and in the future
But still this game is free2play. Dont forget. On this basis you cant call the game is shitty, while most of the players and critics give this game a much higher rating than most of the free2play games. So what you say is not fact but your own opinion, even if your tone sounds shitty. Its your freedom.
By saying that we other players who enjoy the game are lying to ourselves is your next aggressive attack. If you dont like the state of the game then do something against it constructively instead of trolling in forums meant for other purpose. You may open a Website for Complaints and gather some other trolls and bashers, then one day you maybe have enough people to start a constructive protest.campaign. What you and the threadstarter do is simply destructive. You try to destruct the hard work of PGI (even if in your eyes is shitty), you try to destruct the attitude and happiness of theother players, you try to destruct your own good attitude. Grow up. The world is no perfect, everything has flaws. If you dont like the flaws, then simply dont play, dont donate, dont support. This is fair. The devs get what they deserve. Or you may develop a better game and then let us players rate your game. I think if you are a developer you maybe can understand all the problems of development. Free2play always means a risk to gain everything or nothing if your work is not good enough. You as player can decide if the game should get a chance to become more in future. Not by complaining in a shitty way but as a supporter either by cash, by constructive communication with the devs or as a teammember in development, where you can change things. I have been checking on this thread for a while. This goes from renting, to just borderline trolling framewar.

If you dislike aspacts of the game please state so so discussions can be made and hopefully along with it construction suggestions. Just saying things like "I hate this game cause I don't like it so I call this a shit game" is not going to be meaningful. I am sure many of us have aspacts that we like and dislike about this game, but we don't only just go around yelling "this is crap". We would try to see if we can change things, or at least find a common ground before different ideas.

This game is not a custom game made for JUST YOU. That means there are always things you like and dislike. If you hate this game so much then do not play it! You do not HAVE to play this game, hack you don't even have to pay to try this game to start with since it is free2play.

HOWEVER, if in the future you find that the game has somehow changed to the point that you may deem acceptable (like if that would ever happen in this case) Please feel free to join us again and we will accept you with open arms. But as of now, you may be better off leaving this game and this forum judging from your frustration, seeing that you cannot achieve your goals here. That would be better for all parties.

As for the regulars here, please don't feed the frame and let it be.

What does count for clout in this discussion is being objectively honest.

Sure I might've baited cuz my vernacular was rough; I'm sure people took it personally cuz, well, thats what baddies do.

I don't need to come in here to validate my opinions about the state of the game. Conversely, none of you need to read some asshole elitist response from someone like me to either validate or crush your opinion. Have a little confidence in your own position.

My own position, most likely surprising to some, was actually an objective and brutally honest deconstruction of the games most basic utility - satisfaction of the player.

Now, again, I recommend you [everyone] go read what Bartle Types are, and then strongly consider with this newfound understanding, what exactly I was critiquing about the game and more importantly, why.

None of my large post, nor my "this is a shit game" had anything whatsoever to do with placing blame on PGI, nor was it excusing PGI. Cuz my post wasn't about PGI. Or Devs.

It was about the utility of satisfaction that a gamer will draw from a gaming experience and whether or not this game provides something for the fundamental types of gamers (aka you, me, and everone else).

I can't put it any other way.

Believe me when I tell you, if I thought this game had no redeeming qualities, I would be the last person to sit here and cry about it, nor would I try and play the Executioner, nor would I try and play Dr. Strangelove like most of the autist underhive does on main forums or, for a more pertinent example, last night some of the ridiculous manifestos in the big town hall meeting...

...I have no agenda, I'm not sitting here saying "this game is shit so unless they change XYZ mechanic, to fit my needs, I'm quitting and everyone else is too". That would be major fucked up, wouldn't it? A bit more insidious than "this is a shit game and I want it to be less shit".

I'm simply saying, this game right now is a shitty incomplete game (understandably [beta]), one which contains very little redeeming and retaining qualities beyond the BT/MW IP, and yet we all love the game and want to see it succeed. I think the game needs to approach new players better (inc w/ UI 2.0), it needs to offer more balance (discussed this earlier in big post) which is really like us standing around the grill and saying "we need to learn to cook better steaks" (we already haz the meat, get it, balance is trivial and ongoing it's not a crystallized perpetual state of perfection), and it needs to offer more compelling retention at end game (comphrensive, compelling, non exploitable [loophole in grind] CW).

What the fuck else is there to say, besides retorting (naturally) "say it less brutish, ya jerk!" If you disagree with me - excellent! Bring some a-tier rhetoric to the table, I wish to be made smarter. This is the path of discourse. It might've been beaten over the head with our dicks halfway through but I am just responding to lowbrow with lowbrow; skip over comments like that if it makes you flaccid at some point.

Well, for what it's worth - sorry if it cuts or something. Writing scathing diatribes or critiques isn't my job, this isn't my dissertation, this is Soy being Soy.

 

While I disagree with much of what Soy has said (and agree with some of his points as well) I am really enjoying his conversation. Everyone attacks him and he still seems to have a sense of humor. At least, I'm laughing. A lot. He's just funny.

This is a discussion on a website. People are entitled to their opinions. That will often lead to heated and emotional discussion, but, does not need to lead to attacking people personally. (both sides) All the bravado does not make your opinion any stronger. It is still just that, an opinion. You can insult Soy for his and he can fire back how experienced he is, however, at the end of the day, we all play the games we enjoy. Someone else's view of the game should not effect ours at all.

I am all for open discussion of flaws and strengths of the current game and ideas for improvement. Emotion will always come into play in those conversations, but, lets remember the old proverb;

I know three things as fact about DV8.

1, Never be the first one around a corner or looking over a ridge against them.

2, If you drop with them, do not bring a slow Mech. It will be over before you get a chance to shoot anyone.

3, Trying to get any word in on TS3 with them during a drop is impossible, they never stop talking and are very clear on any position in a most colourful manner.

Soy being Soy sums up the thread, do not take it personally as Asperger is a membership requirement for DV8.

I can understand that in most game forums your response is a little more typical. but this forum site is different. And as such needs to be treated differently.

 

That's actually a very good point. This site is genuinely one of the most helpful and supportive communities I've seen. Most forums are flame-fests with unbridled hatred at every turn. This site is a pleasure and I have actually made friends, not enemies, for once.

I prefer honesty, with some civility and maybe consideration of others. However I understand that this game as long as it has been around in it's various guises causes some deep emotions with some. I also can take just about anything anyone on the web is capable of dishing out. As that is the case I would rather hear what people think of the game than what they think of one another. Because I like this game more than enough to stick around and I honestly am interested in others opinions in what may be wrong and what might fix it.

I believe that what we have in the game at this point is obviously unfinished. In fact it plays that way, and after a couple of matches it feels like something is missing to me. I'm not talking about what we have been promised as much as it feels like the game is incomplete. This of course is aside from the balancing, hit box, etc. issues that need to be fixed in what we already have. I think that the Devs have a passion for the franchise that may pull them through any skill issues that they may have and that while I am not always a fan of their art, others are. We can bitch and complain until we are blue in the face, and even be right. But, it is NOT our game, we're just the players.

I have to admit....I do like blowing shit up though
