I'm interested and want to start a discussion on longtom first of all i am against long tom! for me i did kill faction warfare and made invasion obsolete. whoever wins scout wins invasion in my eyes, especially now with the event that so many people are playing FW. long tom is in my eyes to powerful they should make it more like the consumable item artillery. there have been multiple occasions where I or an ally has been spawn killed by arty and it basicly means you only play with 3 mechs in a 4 mech battle. what are your thoughts on longtom and why are you pro or con?
agreed, the worst part is puggs that don't listen to experienced player, that makes you lose precious mechs even more and faster!
For me, Faction warfare was dead well before the Long Tom came around. If you aren't in a group, 95% of the time you're going to get rolled by an organized team and I don't have the time to put into it
True that Shock, did 25 games with IS and won exactly 3. Also, loads of waiting time and groups jump before single's in queue
I think that the Longtom should be placed by the Unit Leader instead of it calculated by the server. This would lead to more chance of a suboptimal Longtom drop and introduce the human factor. Aside from that they are an interesting addition.
Tom is a bit on the strong side and needs to be nerfed (Frequency, range, damage and especially it's neglect of cover. Even a mountain does not stop the blast!!!). But not too much as it needs to be an incentive to play scouting drops. But it did not destroy FP, player attitude destroys FP. Even more so than in PUG drops, you need to play FP in a team. Any player not seeking to at least group up on any of the many available TS servers is just asking for a bad experience,...
I am with @PyckenZot here. While I think the damage is fine -see the part about scouting being worth it- both frequency and ignorance of cover are a bit over the top. About the frequency, I'd say Long Tom on every second Satellite Sweep would be OK, but not on each and every single sweep.
Anyone mind summing up for those of us that haven't played FW in a loooong time - what exactly are the scout/long tom mechanics?
scouting (4v4 in <55ton mechs) can give you three benefits in invasion matches in a specific order information about the enemy mechs( wich mech) location every 1m30 ( i think maybe the time is diffrent) and long tom ( same time as the location) longtom location is calculated by server how and based on what its calculated I don't know what i do now is that if you are standing with your whole group in a 300m radius you are all insta killed
I have to agree with @PyckenZot as well. Player attitude is what kills faction play, more than anything else. Long Tom definitely needs to be adjusted, downwards, as far as damage and frequency of fire goes.
what i just do now is consider a planet captured when they got long tom and i move to a diffrent planet. If everybody just stops queing in the planet with long tom and just let the enemy ghost drop all the time they will get tired of it
That a unit can conquer a world and use scouting to have Tom help defend it. That a unit that wants to conquer that world needs to scout to remove Tom. Yes, I like it.
This being the mode you love do you also Smoke Dive as a tactic as that's the best way to guarantee a win?
I sadly, however, do not know what you mean with Smoke Dive. If you refer to using a pack of highly mobile mechs to ensure Tom drops on an enemy position, then yes. We have been trying that tactic out as a unit. However, that wasn't the point I was making. I was referring to using Tom as a defensive tool.
I think smoke dive is referring to scouting where the gathering team tries to run into the drop zone in the last few seconds.
In that case, yes and no. I will revert to that tactic when it is the last option to win. Luckily, that situation does not occur often.
long tom is good shit, mate if you find you team getting murdered by a big tom then mate, Remember the past, that build the future Remember the Fall of the FRR under the fang of the Wolves and remember the PUGS that are forged in the stars thereafter Now look at the Annihilators of the Clans a monk said that those who doesnt learn from reading or listening learn from doing it dont hate the long tom, mate
