So, where to from here for the snipers (post Sep 3 patch)? Mostly just thinking out loud here, but was toying with the idea of something like this, working from Soy Sauce 2.0 as a base.

Basically, can two AC5s replace the Gauss for sniping (in combination with PPCs)? Clearly it's a drop in pinpoint damage, 35 -> 30. However, the AC5 and the PPC now have similar projectile speeds (1300 and 1500, respectively) and the AC5 doesn't suffer from the charge-up of the Gauss. The AC5 also offers a little more versatility in close with its higher ROF.

This particular build is pretty crammed tight around the Std engine. The number of heat sinks is less than ideal, and the AC5 ammo is probably at the minimum (equating to the same damage potential as 30 rounds of Gauss).

Possibly an XL would be required to make this work. Such as:

    Thoughts?

I'm surprised that this build was not here sooner. I think the XL version is better, due to the armor values. If you ran a smaller STD engine and removed FF, you can have better armor, with descent cooling.

Yeah, that may be a better way to go. I don't like dropping to 4X speeds on the 3D, but it may be necessary to make this work with a Std.

The main issue with Cataphracts is that it is very hard to snipe with anything in the right arm. You basically have to show your entire mech to be able to make any shot due to the low slung arms.

If you want all of the alpha-damage as your build, but still able to pop-tart, you're better off with a single AC-10 in the torso. It doesn't have the range of a gauss or AC5, but it does match well with the PPC.

Hes got a good point, but when not sniping the a/c5s will out do the a/c 10.

Hmmm... I hadn't thought about the AC10 as a "sniper" weapon. There are obviously pros and cons to both, but the AC10 certainly solves some weight isssues in the Std version. For a kind of "close-support sniper" in the 90-500 m range it could be an interesting option. The slower projectile speed of the PPC makes them a lot better matched than they were prior to the patch. The AC10 projectile is not much slower than the Gauss used to be in any case.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.
