This little wonder is capable of shredding armor off of just about any mech. I've been running this setup for some time now. Pros - Maximum Armor -Runs fairly cool -All weapons in torso's making your arms much more viable as a shield Cons -XL Engine (not as bad in a catapult, but still a risk) -Not the biggest engine -Weapons in the torsos (need to expose more of your mech for those "peek over the hill" shots) -UAC's WILL JAM -5 tons of ammo, may not be enough for trigger happy pilots I like the versatility of this mech. I can brawl when I want to and I can be more of a fire support mech earlier in matches. I just stic with the assaults and help to focus fire, and as I've gotten better with my aim i can tae down medums and the occasional lights.
I'd honestly drop just under a ton of armor from legs + arms and use that ton to upgrade to an XL280. That gives you an extra 4 kph and lets you put a DHS in the torso, further reducing the disposability of your arms. I'd also put the arm ton of ammo into your head - I know the Catapult has a vulnerable head hit box, but if you don't use 25 UAC rounds before you get headshotted, then I can't really help you. In general, I really don't like leaving 0.31 tons open just because the armor amounts are weird. Always round to the nearest half ton and try to max it out.
Heres the setup that I run, I use a xl280 like Dwergi said but with only 4 tons of ammo and 2 MLs, set the UAC5s to chainfire and you won't have to worry about jamming as much but still get a good rate of fire CPLT-K2
Here's my version, I would drop the large lasers and go with four mediums. Crank it up to XL315 to enable faster getaways when jam, better twist ability, more internal cooling and a 150 rounds ammo. If you loose the ears, still got main weapons. I would also drop some armor on the legs, cats never get legged. CT is always the easiest target. Rund slightly hotter but has AMS.
No worries, we are all new at some point at everything. Welcome to MechSpecs! Now let's see about the build, I'll be comparing it with: http://www.mechspecs.com/forum/index.php?topic=2870.0 The LLAS gives is additional range which will be needed as you do not want to get anywhere close to enemies with that leg armor! UAC ammo in the CT on a Catapult is not a great idea, even if you will burn through the 3 tons in the torso areas quick it's better in one of the RT or LT's. Heat looks nice and speed aswell, the XL300 is a perfect engine for this mech and gives it a good speed. Conclusion: 3 stars. Reasoning: Having that little armor in the legs makes me seriously nervous (-1). You can do as much damage with 4 MLAS, have more armor overall and a AMS while loosing a bit of range only with the linked build (-1). PS: I would have rated this a 4 star if not for the fact the other build is better.
I would run the LL in the arms, as they are the only thing holding this build back. that, and the low armor value, which should be addressed with this Alt.
Hi Guys, I appreciate the feedback! Just a couple of things. 1. I tried the MLas build and it was not as effective as it required me to be much closer, with this build I can sit back and rip apart mechs from 450-700m. 2. The LLas are not in the arms as you need the tonnage to run the big engine so you can constantly reposition yourself to give the best support to your team. I was averaging 400-500 damage with the MLas build, but with the versatility of the LLas I find that has increased to 600-900. I attribute this so the fact that I do not need to be in the thick of things. Not having the LLas on the arms does not cause me any issues as I am not so close that I am limited by not being able to move the LLas up and down.
Being able to move those lasers has nothing to do with how far/close someone is. It's about being able to hit enemies on higher or lower ridges when you would otherwise not be able to.
That's the beauty of it, being further back and keeping your distance allows you to shoot at the people on ledges as your torso angle allows you to strike at them. Granted this would be a problem if they are on an extremely tall mountain whilst you are at the base. Even then though you would not be able to shoot them as you wouldn't be able to see them even if you looked all the way up.
Granted thats a hunchback, but you get the point. I think you'd be surprised how often an arm lock situation occurs. Its easy to just walk by and not take advantage of them when you aren't accustomed to using them...but that makes the difference between pro and average.
I agree that would be applicable to mechs with lateral arm movement, but you cant do that normally in a K2 which is why it is not a problem. I have had far more success with this build than any previous K2. On another note, does anyone know how to take SS with a triple monitor setup? It seems to take a SS of the left and right screens with the middle being black. I would love to post some game SS of this in action.
Very similiar to my little riflecat so i post it in here i trade the UAC/5 for AC/5, drop 2 tons of ammo and use the extra tons to upgrade the LLs to ERLLs, put one more heatsink and slap some more armor on it.
