So then PGI has too many concept artists and 3D Modellers and guys making mechs and not enough engineers and programmers working on the rest of the game. Hate to say it but lay off the artists for a while, allow them to do freelance work, and hire more engineers and get this shit done. It ain't rocket science. Small teams need to shift focus where it is needed and making new mechs for sale ain't it.
Not paying a dime for Clan mechs. Not only are they overpriced, it shows where PGI's priority is. If you want to ever see CW, stop complaining and then go turning around and throw money at them. Put your foot down and vote with your wallets.
They don't make money off coders. I hate to be cynical, but the money machine doesn't give a crap about this game or the intellectual property they are hacking to bits. They also don't care about us, the loyal gamer that spends hard earned money on a game, who when PGI closes up shop, get nothing. We don't get to keep the game to boot up and play later because we are feeling nostalgic. PGI by going this route get's their money regardless of what happens in the long run from all the MC crap the everyone buys on a regular basis... and we are left with nothing. We are not buying a game, we are not buying content, we are buying an experience and that is all. We all know that experience is lacking, and if we just stop giving them money, they will abandon the property and move on to something else that is making money. Cynical, yes.... but I am more than a bit bitter at what PGI is doing. Everyone should be.
You might consider looking into "Elite: Dangerous". It seems to be under actual development, and is less likely to be vaporware than RSI. I have great hopes for RSI not being vaporware, but really I've no trust left for this kind of thing. http://elite.frontier.co.uk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M44wH8NCc3g As far as MWO goes, I'd be willing to throw down serious money for a quality game. However, I see absolutely no evidence that the people at PGI have even the faintest interest in making a quality game. I mean, read this dreck: http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/144894-clan-technology-a-design-perspective/page__pid__2990947#entry2990947 This is a person who is willing to consider changing the core stats of weapons like the tonnage of clan LRMs. A person that does not know their own game's mechanics. A person that does not care. I'm not going to give money to someone who is completely apathetic about the thing they're doing, because no mater how much money they have, the quality of the product will be 'meh'.
I wonder how so many are ready to prepay $240 for a bundle of Mechs, which you'll see in 6 months. C'mon dudes, we talk about $240 !!! In three months PGI starts another Enforcement Package for another 200 bucks and then what? Throw again money at them like in a Striptease Show? Be patient and wait until % sales offer. You are creating the sh'tstorm yourself if you pay so ridiculously much before seeing any content development. Wake up! Pls add another option: only buy $5-$20 separate single Mech.Bundles, because i'm cheap! I DO NOT SUPPORT THESE BIG SCALE EARLY PREORDER BULLSHIT! Neither should any of us! From a social perspective these kinds of marketing/price policy discriminates destroys the players with little money. Secondly the disappointment by delivering not promised features leads to extreme Violence in community behaviour. I DO NOT SUPPORT THESE BIG SCALE EARLY PREORDER BULLSHIT! Neither should any of us!
Most expensive mech package so far (not taking into account founders). Phoenix Overlord Package = 12 mechs, $80 is $6.67 per mech Basic Sabre Package = 9 mechs (locust pack + 2 sabre mechs), $50 is $5.56 per mech Phoenix Overlord + Sabre = 18 mechs, $110 is $6.12 per mech Now.... Clan Pack = 24 mechs, $240 is $10 per mech It is also two of the overlord packs stacked on top of one another (light, med, hvy, assault, light, med, hvy, assault). The premium time does not go up after the first 4 mechs and the bonuses just increase with little information on what they actually are (bonus module? warhorn? more medallions?). Clan weapons, mech loadouts and customization are limited in ways that IS mechs are not as of the writing of this post with vague clarification and not set methodology of implementation. What they tell you now may not be what they end up going with, yet they are trying to sell it to you. With Phoenix we knew pretty much what we were going to get as they were all IS mechs and were going to use the same setup and mechanics as the mechs already out. With these clan mechs it is basically like buying founders mechs, you don't know what you are going to get and it might not be what you end up liking even if you liked the classic clan mechs. Now we go on to their marketing department.... They need to be fired. This is now a fiasco, regardless if you like the mechs or not. When Forbes magazine contributors are posting about a pissed off community you know the crap has hit the fan. The timing of this is off. I can understand a sale before Christmas to try and tap into the monies of the season, but with the Phoenix package not fully out it doesn't make a consumer comfortable with the stability of a company that has to put these packages out so often. I also wonder if this will null any new mechs between the time that Phoenix is out fully and the Clan mechs 'drop'. Will they use the excuse that "Oh we are working on the Clan mechs"? Slow progress on the fundamental game mechanics and large swathes of packages in a short period of time will turn a consumer off because they wonder what the company is working on and if it can achieve a product that has been hyped and pushed back several times already. Buy it if you want, but to me this throws up huge "BUYER BEWARE" flares and warning signals.
Link: Clan Collection - Feedback If you want to know more about the opinion of the Community.. I'd say, let's boycott this too early Pre-Order Sale and wait for Content (CW, UI 2.0, Music, etc.)
Honestly I would actually buy this package if I saw some actual progress and knew anything about it. If i do buy anything it will be the $90 package for the summoner, nova and kit fox, some of my favorite mechs, even if they are not the most OP. But the complete lack of information and implementation of anything other than MOAR MECHS is absurd and appalling. My wallet stays closed this year, until I see progress.
I actually Liked the original TimberWolf.... they ruined it. MadDog..... Cool! ShadowCat..... Cool! (3058) WarHawk..... Meh I don't care for more than half the designs they decided on, and I'm not going to pay a buttload of cash just so I can get one of the ones I actually like.
i think the reason why Piranha games are making poor seeming decisions in favour of grabbing all the money they can, is that the poor and innocent piranha games industries is being bullied by the company system, where if the developers have an amazing new idea and it makes the players much happier but doesn't make big bucks(literally), then the people providing the money can veto any decision that pgi can ever make. while i must say this system is not entirely to blame, i think people are being unfair to them. they are mere mortals who are making their way around life. and that every staff member would prefer to do as we all wish, but losing their dream job surely is not worth it just for following your loyalties to the playerbase. and anyway, loads of people where whinging about the lack of any clan in sight their wish is pgi's command, and they where foolish not to suggest that pgi introduce the clans AFTER UI 2.0 and Community warfare. plus they seem to be making good headway with UI 2.0 with regular public test updates... anyone who thinks this can like the post
Hail, I can live with the price, what I cannot stomach is Variants of OmniMechs. Re-writing weapons tables based on what PGI feels will balance the game (guys who gave us Ghostheat). They completely missed the point... But, here is the big thing right now. Private Servers and the ability to keep what we have paid for if PGI pulls the plug, real liability at the moment.
Lol, emulation is always a possibility... but.. as far as 'keeping what you paid for'... lol, that in particular would be basically impossible. Anyways, don't expect this game to develop any sort of auxiliary privatized off-shoot community, even though it would be cool, specifically cuz it'd be possible to actually balance the game ourselves with real solutions rather than arbitrary hand of god mechanics like Ghost Heat etc. Why? Two reasons - it's too recent and thus commercially viable [think lawyers], and it's too much work for a game that clearly doesn't have that special something.
Will the Timberwolf only having 1/3rd of its weight available for weapons/ammo hold it back? 27.5 tons free. Fast = Check Armored = Check Firepower = ? Assuming that Clan tech is comparable to IS tech and tonnage is equal (Because as stated in the Command Post can't have Clan tech better than IS tech) 14 tons = 2 PPC 12 tons = Ultra AC/5 with 3 tons ammo 1.5 Tons = Antimissile system? Or maybe ECM? Will all clan mechs be able to mount ECM?
Do you like Applejacks, Cheerios, Or Fuck Off PGI? Will you look at this ti still works. Mark me down for Fuck Off PGI, A few if I have the Cash, and 240 only. Lets face it, 240 is still a bit of cash to drop in one go on shit that isnt tangible. Unlike.. a gun for instance. However, I have bought mechs with MC in the past (because after grinding ALL through beta; FUCK that shit) and the price points are comparatively fair. But at the same time, Fuck off PGI and your money grubbing ways. Stop blowing money on fucking bullshit trailers and get some content out there! /rant
I actually like the trailers. I am saving all of them and burning a blue ray so I have something to remind me of the game after they pull the plug and we, who have spent our hard earned cash, get nothing.
The trailers look nice, but that rubs me the wrong way to WATCH an awesome trailer when i could be playing an Awesome game.
