Ah. You are right. I didn't notice. Interesting. Other than the obvious (greed) I wonder what motivated them to up the price. People have already been bitching that MWO is overpriced.
Hi, my name is Xitomatl and I'm a mechaholic. I already gave them the $240 for the "Masakari collection." I feel guilty, spending all that money just for parts of a game. When I first started playing this game, I couldn't imagine ever buying a hero mech. Christ, just one was the cost of an entire other video game, and I remember back in the day when buying a mechwarrior game got you all of the mechs. But then, I got addicted. I started buying hero mechs when they were on sale, because who can resist an extra 30% in C-Bills? I justified it by calculating how much time I spend playing and how much more C-billage I could bring in with hero mechs. Then they offered me the Phoenix package, opening the gate for me to spend serious cash on packages of mechs. Again, I couldn't resist. I said I would never pay for something as useless as colors to paint my mechs, but now when there are sales on colors... what's a dollar or two to make my SuperKiller look the part? But now there are the Clans... they have made their invasion of the periphery of my mind to my limbic system, my reptilian brain that feels more than it thinks, that remembers smells and emotions from my childhood. PGI then, having cleverly eased me into spending real money on virtual mechs, brought out the Clan packages, and upped the price compared to the Phoenix packages. Again, I couldn't resist. If one will spend $5, why not $6? And if $6 is OK, what's another $1 to make it $7? And that point, why not round up to $10 to make the math easy? Quitting MechWarrior Online, like any other addiction, is a 12 step process, the first step of which is recognizing you have a problem. I have now spent over $400 on this game, more than I ever dreamed I would spend on a single game. I have a problem. Now I just have to decide if I care! ...and the verdict is in already! I don't. And the gold mechs at $500 a piece? I don't blame PGI for offering them. If they can get a bigger addict than me with more money than me to fork it over, then more power to them. If I were a millionaire I would do it just to help ensure that the game is thoroughly financed. But I'm not a millionaire, so I sure as hell know who I'll be aiming for when I see a solid gold Clan mech on the battlefield!
What's gonna be funny is when someone in like a trial Spider with 1 large laser gets a kill on a gold clan mech
Im not sure what to think. Pre-ordering the clan invasion for $240 sounds like a lot of money, but breaking it down into the individual components, it is less than what buying all that individually with MC would cost (probably closer to $400+ when you add cost of premium and cosmetics to the hero and standard mechs w/ bays.) In the end, it is $30 for chassis, and some extra stuff past the $90 mark. Pretty much the same deal with the Phoneix mechs, but a larger package. If I had money to throw around, I would consider getting at least the Dashi level package. Now those gold mechs... hang on a moment, I need to find a padded cell for a 5 hour screaming-my-head-off session. I would probably start said session with "WHAT THE FUCK PGI! 500 FOR A GOLD MECH. HOW FUCKING GREEDY AND DUMB ARE YOU!" It takes a lot to make me say "fuck" at that frequency, so that is how mad I am. As for any gold mechs I encounter in-game, I considered initiating a "Kill on Sight" policy as a knee-jerk WTF reaction. *sigh* I turn my back on gaming for less than a week to get my college projects done, and PGI goes nuts. On the plus side, my college projects are done.
im tempted to invest ridiculous money just for ONE mech - the timberwolf.....(and the stormcrow - the best 2 mechs from the tabletop imho). its madness - but on the other hand ive spent loads of money over the years to raid and kill (WoW). thought ive ovecome the addiction.... hear:
That's pretty shit in my opinion. I think people need to get a grip on shit and look at the game for what it really is. It has zero content. So when you consider spending triple figures on a video game, make sure you're getting your actual money's worth. Oh wow, look, the mech I always wanted is in the game... I can't wait to pilot it and do the same meaningless unbalanced stuff on the same maps over and over. If anything, charge $240 to get your unit a super sick jumpship/dropship combo and maybe some holdings on some planet when CW rolls out. But this? I mean, really. Be honest. That's a bonafide waste of money. I can understand 10-30 bucks for a mech. I don't understand $240 for a package, or a $500 skin for a mech. To me this is another shameful sign that the gaming industry is really going overboard with all of the gouging and microtransaction DLC bullshit. It's one reason I find myself harkening back to older titles that aren't trying to nickel and dime you every time you find yourself enjoying this or that about a game.
Where's the "maybe, more info required" option?? I would want to find out more on how omnimechs work, omni weapon hard points and how nerfed are clan weapons. And how does the community warfare thing work when I have roughly 45 Inner Sphere mechs and then I get the clan mechs. Can I use both without penalty ?? So... Maybe... If I was to get one it would be the $240 package though.
I feel tempted to go with the $240... but I'd rather throw it at Star Citizen at this point. People don't have to get this, but they make it seem like it is required. The "Bonus Modules" are what I'm curious about...
My thoughts exactly. I'd be fine with the $500 gold mechs if it was just whale-bait without any additional in-game benefit. An extra module isn't that big a deal so maybe PGI thought it wouldn't get P2W-jimmies rustled. But it has. Mostly because no one would pay $500 for an extra module anyway... so they could have left it off and probably sold the same amount.
$500...... $240...... GOLD MECHS ??????????? Appalling, lame, retarded, losers, nail, coffin, PGI I wish I could laugh at this, I just can't.
I may select up to 3 options in the poll ? Awww, that's so thoughtful, but thanks, I really only needed one. FOP.
That's how i played LOL in the past. Now i have ALL 100+ Champions, 50% of them bought for real money, making a total of $200. BUT Riot Games is smarter than PGI, they add new Champions for Prices about $5 and sales of 50% time by time. Even if you wait for the sales offer to buy the new stuff, you are sucked slowly and if everybody is buying on sales day, they make millions of $$$. PGI is not smart by setting the prices soo high, only sucking the rich boyz with "i don't care about money" attitude. They are dumb because at such high prices they will never set a toe in the asian market. You know why Starcraft, Warcraft, WOW and LOL still live today? It's because of the asian gamers. And guess what - they are cheap. Ow dear PGI, if you ever want to make real big money and are looking for Longevity, simply copy the price-policy of the online games with success already.
Really wish they at least gave the options to buy a single mech. I would love an Adder and a Timberwolf... but paying for the package where I have to also accept the Nova, Summoner, ect. So many of these mechs are just going to turn into duplicates of what we already have... They keep releasing new mechs that barely vary hardpoints because people KEEP PAYING! However, they ignore actual content updates. We still have a pathetic number of maps, some pretty hefty bugs, botched hitboxes and, my biggest gripe, no UI2.0. However, they will spend plenty of time to develop new mechs because people will go "OH! SHINY!" and buy them. If only we could buy them with an earmark that our funding of the game MUST GO to specific content. (IE UI2.0, bug fix patches and maps) /sigh
In their defense - the guys who are developing the new mechs probably are a different department than the guys developing content, bug fixes and UI2.0. That said, it's still one of the stupidest cash grabs I've seen from a video game for all time. Thank god my PS4 gets here next week. I think I need to spend some time away from this!
