The Dragon 5N(C) is the best trial mech ever. That said a Dragon 5N will never be worth cash no matter how good of an outfit you put on it. Had to have a large contest to even find a build worth charging money for on the mech lol. Glad I got to drive it as a trial. It simply isn't worth a single dime otherwise.
The thing is, the 5N(C) build is not even unique to the 5N. It could be done on any Dragon. The only reason to get a 5N is for triple dakka.
Indeed Skribs, there is nothing unique about it and I am willing to wager that whoever submitted the winning design adapted it from one of their other Dragon builds (probably a 1C).
We haven't had one single submission on the Champion mech so that should tell you how much people are snapping them up. Granted we only have 2200 registered users I would go out on a limb to say that the hardcore of the hardcore (or those who are in love with the franchise) are the ones who hang out here.
Even if people grab it, they can use the builds in the regular 5N section. I think the issue is that the 5N just isn't very popular. So in addition to the Champion mech not being the greatest idea (it's not WORSE but it's not real useful), the Mech they chose for it is terrible. Now, if they had made the Champion mech a build that had won a tournament (like say, a Stalker 5M with 5xLL) or a build regarded overpowered (i.e. Cataphract 3D with jets, Gauss, and 2xER PPC or Raven 3L with 295 XL, 3xML, and 2xSSRM2) then they might sell more. Taking an unpopular mech and not doing much to it is like taking a terrible generic cola and making it diet.
We will eagerly await the future Champion mechs (if there are any) and if they follow the same pattern we will most likely not support them with their own build threads here. While this isn't a protest there simply isn't need to take up room and real-estate when it isn't being utilized (kind of like the Mech Paint Lab forum section now LOL)
