Well, because the Battlemaster's arm is just crap. At first I was using MLas as back-up weapons, but it's kind of useless a mid/long range where you want to stay with your AC/2s. So I used the high mounted energy hardpoints to load PPCs as a complementary sniping weapon system. It's especially useful when you're picking on the right side, since your arm is useless in this situation. The game style is sort of between alpha sniping and sustained fire harassment. You'll alpha strike (26dmg, that's not so bad for a start) and if the target stay in the open you keep the pressure with the AC/2s (full cycle deals more than 60dmg in 4s). Most of the time you won't be able to fire more than two cycles because of the heat. If you find yourself overheating, stop shooting the PPCs and only fire AC/2s, since they deal twice as much damage as PPCs for the same generated heat (but actually, in this situation the best plan is often to retreat and cool down, and maybe reposition in the meantime). This particular playstyle is one of the reasons why you might at first think it doesn't load a lot of ammo for a triple AC/2s: you're not constantly firing and PPCs are dealing a good share of damage (more than a third I'd say, maybe half in some situations).
