Usage: Stay with the main brawling group or surprise LRM boats if possible
2xAC2: Main weapon, makes enemies stagger and fear. Always use it if you see an enemy. Ammo usually suffices.
2xLPL: When heat allows it, good weapon agains light mechs too.
2xSRM4: Additional punch for close combat.
pros: faster than an usual atlas, easy brawling, no weaknesses.
cons: below average burst damage. probably hasn't much to offer for experienced players.

    Background:
Hi there, i am new to mechwarrior online. It's hard for beginners with bad aiming skills to be of any use, so i decided to help my team with ECM. Driving an Cicada-3M for a week was not satisfying, so i tried an atlas. Trying several weapons i begun to like ac2 and pulse lasers most. On paper, regular lasers are better but pulse lasers are easier to aim with. Atlas' regular engine was too slow, i always arrived too late. 325 helps to stay with the heavies. Now i have a mech that fits me and lets my team win most battles. Please post your opinion and help me improve this build. Thanks!

I would run your loadout as changed. As a former Atlas pilot, I Need as much armor to the front as possible. That said, I run with friends, and don't worry too much about my Rear armor. I'd also run ERPPC's, simply to be a better sniper. But to each his own.

3 Stars for the initial build, 4 Stars for the second, even though I would personally run with the 300 STD and get another ton of SRM ammo in, but all in all, very solid build.

    Welcome to MechSpecs, Egalsack!

Totally agree with Tsume on scoring, the first build is a little too weak with AC2's as main weapon but the second with AC5's is good. :)

Just one small consideration, your second build has 2t SRM ammo in the LT and 4t AC5 ammo in the legs. I am considering the placement and burn off rate. The AC5's would burn 2t in 40 seconds, leaving you at 50% and 60 remaining shots. The SRM's would burn 2t in 62,5 seconds, leaving you at 0%.

I would suggest putting the SRM ammo in the legs and 2t of AC5 ammo in CT. It is unlikely you will get CT cored without expending that ammo first, this lets you drop the case and put 0,5t armor on the legs.

Mind you, there's nothing wrong with your build, it's just a tweak I would do. :)

Thanks for your suggestions! I'd like to comment them with my thoughts, please feel free to convince me that i am wrong.

AC2 is more dps than AC5, the problem with the first build just was the heat. AC5 generates much less heat. In 8v8 it was okay, but in 12v12 i find me firing nonstop for a minute, heat matters a lot. The second build still sucks heatwise in terra therma, but i think others share that problem.

And i don't understand your suggestions regarding SRM ammo. I usually get cored having almost 1t SRM ammo left, maybe it's just my inexperience in twisting the torso while brawling. Running out of AC2/5 ammo is much more common. I might consider putting a third ton once i survive long enought, but even when i'm doing 900 dmg (yeah, that happens twice a day), SRM ammo seems to be fine.

In a hundred fights i got legged only once, so leg armor is fine i think.

If i have AC ammo in center torso and left torso, which one will be used first? If it's the center torso ammo, you may be right Lan.

Also i need to know where to spend my money next. I have no modules yet, i am planning on seismic sensors. I can't see much advantage in the other modules, maybe you can suggest other useful modules.

I won't place a 300 STD in a D-DC. You need to keep up with the team to protect them with ECM. And i hate being late in an exciting brawl. This is still a team-setup mech, not a solo killer. I was even considering changing the large lasers for mediums to further increase engine size. Something like that i will try once i have plenty of money to spend.

I also like the AC/5 one much better.

We are here to discuss so fire away, my friend. :)

There are a few unmutable facts but much of the weaponry and the setup of a mech just works differently for different people. Math and min/maxing can only get you so far, in the end, you have to like and pilot the build. :)

True, the AC2 has a higher DPS and on a different mech, that is a good thing. But the Atlas needs that torsotwisting ability (the boxer move) and with a AC2 you are aligned on target quite a lot of time. The AC5 has a longer cooldown between shots and allows you a bit of twisting, "Shake it up baby now, twist and shout..." etc. ;)

Sorry if I was a little unclear, what I meant was that you should consider having only AC5 ammo in any of the torso areas. Just because you will consume that faster. There is a good guide on ammo locations and consumption, lemme track it down:

    http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/65...ies-or-in-what-order-is-your-ammo-being-used/

What I meant about the leg armor and the case is that I think the case is unnecessary. You will consume the AC5 ammo before you loose your armor at any torso location. Hence, you can use it to improve the legs. I know, I know. I have also rarely been legged but since I am recommending putting the SRM there, that was a logical improvement for getting rid of the case.

    Happy gaming. :)
