First of all, I am from EU so the laptop market is terrible, high prices and few models.

I would like to know, hardware wise, what makes this game playable ? I don't mind playing all on minimun, but I want at least 40-50 fps.

I don't need the exact model, just the components, I guess just CPU, GPU and RAM will do.

I don't use a laptop, but I do sometimes play on an iMac, which uses mobile components. With a GTX660m, a Core i5-3470S (Quad-core @ 2.9 GHz), and 8 GB of ram, it can run MWO at a fairly consistent 50-60 FPS at 1920x1080 on Low. Switching up to Medium settings drops the framerates to around 30 FPS and down below 20 in a big firefight.

In general, on the CPU side, you probably want to go with a quad-core processor, as dual cores just don't cut it with the Crytek engine. You could probably get away with a slightly slower GPU and run at a lower resolution, but I wouldn't go below a GT640M/GT730M.

I used to play on a Dell 1730 XPS from 2008, but eventually, MWO FPS dropped to about 30-40 at the end of last year and I decided to get a desktop PC at the beginning of this year (Feb or March) to save money in the long run due to swappable components. I tried to get new graphic cards for the notebook, but there were no compatible (better) models due to some reception thingy in the motherboard.
Oh, and it was pretty warm to the touch after a while, but I never had heat issues.

Probably the newest generation of the series will do for you, but mine wasn't cheap at the time at about 2.000 EUR.

Edith says: I'm from Europe, too.

    Thanks a lot guys.

    I have 2 options now.

i5 740m for about 550 euros (many brands offer this) , or i7 and 755m (lenovo y510p, the others are priced much higher) for about 800 euros.

From your experiences I guess the first will run the game just fine...but for 250 euros more maybe the second it's worth the price difference...just...I play only MWO and then use the PC to call my family on skype and surf the net when I'm away, at home my PC plays the game just fine and in general I don't like laptops so much so when I'm home it will just stay off, I don't know if I will ever need the specs of the second one.

Depends, cause my experience with Ienovo is bad. All things i bought from them became old fast. Same goes for notebooks from them that my friends have, normally they become unusable back the first year due to temperature troubles. Some research is important now, cause the model may or may not be profitable for you, thats my advice. Search in the web for in deepth analysis and so of that model.

I do play on a laptop when I'm not at home...I spent a lot to get one that would run games for a long time, so here's the rundown:

    17.3" Full HD LED-Backlit Display with Matte Finished Surface (1920 x 1080)
Nvidia GeForce GTX 780M GPU with 4GB GDDR5 Video Memory
    4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-4800MQ Processor ( 6MB L3 Cache, 2.70GHz)
    Genuine MS Windows® 7 Home Premium 32/64-Bit Edition ( 64-Bit Preloaded )
    16GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz - 2 X 8GB
    750GB 7200rpm SATA2 Hard Drive
    8X DVD±R/RW/4X +DL Super-Multi Drive & Software
Internal 802.11 B+G+N Wireless LAN + Bluetooth Combo Module
    Smart Li-ION Battery Pack

Got it from Sager with a lot of items on sale, and haven't been disappointed yet in the year I've owned it. Some games actually run better on this computer than my desktop at home.

If I were in the US I'd sure get a Sager.

They have some amazing models, but the problem is warranty and shipment to EU, that is not possible so far.
The NP7358 is perfect for my needs with an i7 quad core, a 860m and 8gb of RAM, for $1,089.00.

Sadly in EU I can only dream about those prices.

In the end I went with y510p, with i7 quad core, 12gb dual channel ram and a 755m, upgradable to SLI config with the ultrabay. Found it at a price matching the online one, but on a store near to my home.

In a year or 2 I'll put a second 755m in and match the upcoming y50, still to be released where I live and that will release around 1100-1200 while I payed this 800.

The game runs fine @full hd resolution with med-high settings, so I'm satisfied with this :)

Question : do you guys use cooling pads?

I do use cooling pad. I own 2; one for home made of metal, more powerfull but way more troublesome to travel with even in ur own city, and other of PVC, that i choosed for the power of the fans. Highly recommended for laptops.

Had to buy and UPS first because where I live now tension is too unstable (light already start to behave strange when you plug something demanding).

It was indeed useful since it beeped already 2 times when I was playing MWO, and the VGA is basically all powered by the AC so I think I saved some damage :D

Do you have any pics of your home made ones?

I can find here, from brands I know the Cooler Master Notepal U3 PLUS or the Zalman ZM-NC3000S...is one of those any good?

Materials are the important part of them. They tend to be cheap enough to be considered consumables. At least i do. Around 30-60€/2years, that is aprox the time when 1 of the fans or the cooling paint start to fail.

The battery should work around this. I try to avoid all direct connections of power.

Yes the battery should, fact is when I use the 755M it goes full power only if the AC is plugged, so once the power is taken out it will suddenly drop at like half power and I don't want that ! (it's pretty clear by the fps drop)

managed to get as high as 112 FPS on the startup with some settings still on very high (DelphiAuriga in the screen ahah, is that you? :D), on DX11 and HD resolution (can drop in the 30s when it's very crowded but for a gaming laptop, for the price, I guess I can't ask more), but for a test I unplugged the AC and drops badly, I search the lenovo site and turns out the AC is needed to run the 755M full power, thing that battery alone can't do, so I feel safer with the UPS. This is a desktop replacement for me so no problem at all, but I would be upset is I wanted to game unplugged, I guess they should point it out!

Anyway since I'm not able to build my own cooler, I think I'll go with Zalman, as usually it served me well on desktops.

I got a Coolermaster notepal u3 plus in the end, because the Lenovo y510p gets hot only top left and a bit in the center and you can adjust the fans on that one, so I'm pointing them all at those spots while the rest is always cool anyway. I think it's the best for my laptop.

After gaming more on it I must say I knew it would be no where near a desktop even if it's quite high end, but I didn't espect this much, especially using the keyboard is hard for me (and have no space for a second one)

The other problem is for offline games it works wonders (and I can get up to 100+ fps in training grounds in MWO), yet it can drop in the 30s in the most crowded battles, or even less with a lot of lrms spam, and I hate it when it happerns :(
