Next, someone else adds a new post to the thread; http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=70&l=0cc2616d05086e05484d4a777333942dd4349288 This mech is rated 4. Now, both this post and the previous post have their own separate rating scale, completely separate from all other posts within the thread. So if someone were to come along and add their rating to the first post, ONLY THAT POST would be affected. However, there is also a separate rating for the thread itself. The separate rating for this entire thread is equal to the HIGHEST RATING OF ANY ONE POST WITHIN THE THREAD. So, if the thread contains 4 separate posts, each containing their own separate mech builds, with a rating of 2, 3, 4, and 5, each post within the thread will have their own separate ratings. However, the rating for the entire thread is equal to the highest single post rating-in this case, the rating for the ENTIRE THREAD is 5. In other words, INDIVIDUAL POST RATING = AVERAGE OF ALL RATINGS OF THAT SPECIFIC POST RATING OF ENTIRE THREAD = HIGHEST TOTAL RATING OF ANY SINGLE POST.
Sorry. I wasn't intending to be a smartass. So, now that you've read the whole thing, what do you think?
I'm posting this over to the Engine author now to see what he thinks can be done about it. It sounds like an cool idea. It would solve a lot of problems with having builds in their own threads etc.
Hmmm, i tried this a few times man but it didnt work. maybe im doin it wrong...after awhile my comp does this weird crash like thing and has to reboot. Maybe check the programming of the website?
So this is what the Programmer said Is THAT what you are referring to? Also, this morning I received this....
Michael, you have loads of extra free time to cater to all our whims and fancies, right? Seriously, bro. I don't think this community can thank you and the moderation team on this forum enough for all the work you guys put in. This is an incredible resource and social community that you guys are doing on donation only. That is not only very generous, it is (get ready for the most over-used word in American diction) awesome! So, yeah, thank you a hundred times to you guys. Chatt.
I'm voting for "Average Rating" ! Makes more sense than taking the rating of the best build in a thread. If a Mech has more better builds in average than other Mechs, then the Average Rating describes this the best way. A crap Mech has in average worse builds than other Mechs. Very logical. Blagg
Continue to speak up people. Otherwise you are gonna get a system you don't like and you will be stuck with it cause once I make these changes it is unlikely I will invest more time into this specific aspect of the site.
I think the suggestions from your coder are a great way to let people filter, let a thread "evolve" and see where it takes the chassis. Regarding the fact that people can change their votes, would it make sense, maybe, to send a sort of automated message out every 3 Months to tell people "Recheck the Meta with the current ratings you handed out and change them"? Also, some threads never get rated... maybe an auto deletion in the Mech Subforums? If someone wanted that build, he either would have rated it or it can be put up once more?
You need to be a little more specific. A lot of suggestions were made by SoLo
Regarding the fact that people can change their votes, would it make sense, maybe, to send a sort of automated message out every 3 Months to tell people "Recheck the Meta with the current ratings you handed out and change them"?
No, but I can send out a Newsletter every three months to remind people. That isn't an issue and it can even be done with a nice graphic image.
Also, some threads never get rated... maybe an auto deletion in the Mech Subforums? The only way it could be done is manually.
@ Michael: I thought the big quotes from SoLo were combined, if not, the second one ###### Technically, this would be most accurate and is possible. Let me know if this is fine. I could also provide different options for topics to choose from, like so: 1. Average Rating (described above) 2. First Post Only 3. Highest Rating in Topic 4. Lowest Rating in Topic ######
That looks reasonable. Allows us to filter a little more, although, we still have to wade through fifteen similar builds to see the diamond in the rough.
Edit: damn, didn't read the last page before posting this; discussion has moved quite a ways with the avg rating thing, but some of my thoughts still stand. Voted merge together and let the rating only reflect the 1st post. Unless you're completely new, you can look at a mech/tonnage and figure out what would make a viable weapon loadout before even going in the thread. Once you're in the thread, you can see the original build that sparked the topic line and then read through the comments for possible min/max solutions. A lot of the time, I'll look at the topic line loadout (ie 4LL, AMS, STD) to see if the thought of that loadout intrigues me, see the original posters and others' take on it, then ultimately end up picking one of the various variations or even uniquely tailoring one of those to suite me (ie, drop the AMS just so I can get max armor).
It looks like a pretty even split between the first two which means I'm gonna have to pick a system and you are just gonna have to suck it up. This can already be done. All I have to do is set the enable tag (or allow you guys to set it and disable it). The problems with this have been explained a page or two back.
well...have you voted Michael? Maybe you and the mods can get together and break the tie. Hell, most of the work is on you guys anyways.
