A more level headed approach to the new Conquest

So, after a few days stepping away from MWO and letting some of the changes sink in, I've tried to think about how to make use of this new form of Conquest for the time being and talked with a few of my lance mates about it.

Obviously, due to the long capping time, Lights are no longer meant to just run around in a cap race while the main force fights. The idea should be to split according to the lances and secure a cap point, hold it and fight... and if you have no fight/win yours, move to support the other lances.

Maybe split one lance into 3 and send the extra off to form a 5-Mech lance.

The big problem here is, that both sides have to play by that "rule" to make it work. I see this as a lot more of a possibility in maps like Alpine and Terra, where the cap points are spread out so much that the lances have to move towards the designated one at start-up.

The smaller the map, the less this approach is desireable... just clump your entire team together, crush the opposing side and then cap.

Maybe all of our Conquest and Assault tactics will be pointless when/if CW hits and maybe changes the game from the ground up and replaces the current "objectives" with more detailled and abstract ones.

I still think that Conquest is not working as Conquest anymore but maybe this approach/suggestion in rethinking the gamestyle of it can turn it into a different but still interesting game mode.

unfortunately there's no way to make this happen in pub drop groups. Right now its just assault mode and assault mode with lights running all over the map.

I have a thought though to help get conquest back on its feet.

What if each lance on both sides had different starting spawn zones to help mitigate when and where the fights take place and wont usually be just one big LRM/brawl fest? Each lance would also have its own weight limits allowing the team to fill it as they see fit.

That is something WoT does with some of the larger battles. It does work, which is quite wondrous.

I've never thought about that... that's a damn good idea.

Split the teams, make them work towards a combined goal... heck, make it so that you can't reach your other lances without ignoring a cap or avoiding a fight... that might actually be a great idea, but may need a redesign of some of the maps and their cap points... none the less, a great idea.

How big do you think the maps are? I can totally see lights bouncing off on their own to another spawn, so basically you see lone lights and fasts running around, and the heavys stuck and separated. In other words it is lone heavys facing a bunch of roaming lights, for the most part.

I'm six of one and half a dozen of the other. While separate spawn points are a great idea I still have a feeling people will find a way to continue the roving Furball of Doom.
