So MWO has a proper ELO now? Last time I seriously played there wasn't really much Matchmaking involved.
I've completed 30 matches spaced over a period of 12 hours or so... and they were all horrible. I am so bad at this game right now. I'm actually a little impressed. I remember a time when I thought doing less than 400 damage in a match was either very bad luck or simply not trying. I've only had one out of 30 matches where I did over 400 damage.
To get more game in, remember to quit game once you die ang got into observer mode. Saves you some time. Learn this while grinding. Mind as well get all those daily 1st win for your mechs also.
If you want to grind C-Bills that is. If you log off early you will not be awarded any of the assists or other bonusses that came up after you left. So actually you will lose some XP.
It used to be true and indeed I've always said it....but theres a lot of discussion whether it changed with the connect/reconnect mechanism as its so hard to prove either way unless you deliberately log xp before you go into the match in a group and one person stays to watch for what happens later (even then its hard to absolutely prove as perhaps you never shot the later targets that died, you got an unknown number of spotting assists etc). Either way I've been sitting till the end but then I tend to go make tea, adjust buy/sell orders in Eve Online, surf mechspecs, etc.....
But I have 62 mechs... considering how frustrating it was playing 30 games yesterday I can only imagine losing my sanity trying to get 62 first wins on the day. Not to mention 5 or 6 of them don't have engines and would require some mechlab work to make them combat worthy. Right now what I'm focused on is finally getting my Jenners Mastered. I have more than enough XP on the D and F. I had those "Mastered" before there were 3 Jenner variants available. But my Oxide has only been Elited and needs more XP. I use the standard SSRM Oxide. But since most of my games have featured a lot of long range combat (LRMs in a good spot right now? They used to be underpowered...) I am considering giving Oxiclean a run for laughs. ------------------- Edit to avoid double posting: Would someone kindly give me a few pointers as to the current meta for the game? And I mean PUG-meta not full 12v12. I've seen a lot more LRMs than I'm used to and I'm starting to get the impression that my mechbay might be a tad outdated. You see, almost all of my mechs are brawlers of one variety or another. Some have one or two long range options to balance them out a bit but for the most part my mechs are made to get up in the enemy's face. Unfortunately most of my matches involve the whole team hill-humping and unless I'm in a light mech I don't get much of a chance to wade into optimal range.
PUG meta is LRM and long range oriented since a few weeks back when we had a murderous weekend (group queue LRMageddon) with NARC, tag and LRM's. This should stabilize once they remember the power of SRM's and brawlers. Brawlers have to be real fast or real sneaky, it's difficult getting a PUG team to maneuver. Most of the time people seem to want to slug it out for the first four-five minutes and then close. Sixth minute or so is usually the brawly and then in the seventh is the cleanup. Given the clan mechs, speed has been pushed up and you have to be real attentive or be caught wrongfooted. A 54 kph assault is near helpless vs 80+ Timbers, Crows, etc. It's damn hard getting into range without getting LRM'ed to pieces. Current meta builds are LRM boats. quick SRM mediums or heavies, ppc/Gauss combos, clan ultra ac boats, clan lasers and Gauss on direwolves. Clans work real well long range generally.
As I posted in another thread... I run statistics for myself to check on my status. This helps keep the frustration level low when I feel I'm gettin' buttkicked over and over again... numbers don't lie and tell me everything's fine. I really do think that the game can check if you signed off the match or your connection got lost. In the last challenge I had 3 or 4 opportunities, where I logged off too soon. And I should have done more assists than I got accounted for. So my bet is the mechanics work like I said. Logoff and anything accomplished after that will not count (apart form win/lose and anything acheived prior to leaving).
Yeah I suspect you're right from my tests I've just never managed to get the results accurate enough to say either way. Theoretically, you could track things via the mech results screen on your profile but you'd want to go in a mech with no tag/narc etc and not lock anything to get no spotting assists. Log stats before - put a laser on a lot of things to do over 1%, die quickly ... log out fast. Wait till stats update and check how much XP you got. Have someone in the match give you info on what happened later. Make sure its a Skirmish game for no capping. Too guilty to run the test as would be making things harder for my own company.
Oh crap. Time has flown and I've only done 40 matches. I'll have to power through a few games to make up for the days I haven't played. Edit to avoid double posting: Due to the fact that I don't want to play ~60 MWO matches today I've checked some stats. The Saber reinforcement mech weren't available a full year ago. So I checked my all time stats on my griffins and I can see that I am well over 100 matches. Great. I didn't actually have to play any matches this week at all. So my mission is a failure. But it was unnecessary to begin with so who cares.
Figured this out about 15 minutes before your post. Epic facepalm. Why did no one mention this to me sooner? You guys must really enjoy me making an ass of myself...
Heh, not true. I just didn't think of this as a challenge and I doubt most of the others did, we've played more then a hundred in the last month/weeks alone. Sorry.
Apart from that, I actually did...
It's listed in your profile as a challenge, so you'll notice when it started, and when you succeed. The 100 matches since last September, too, so if some Bastard is unsure if he did it already, that would be the place to check.
My fault for not reading page 3. Oh well. At least I got something out of the experience; I now know that I still don't enjoy MWO. I am excited about the upcoming changes to the game but they have a lot of work to do to fully win me back.
No mate it was fun to read your progress as it echoes with our (well my!) experiences. I always love reading about peoples triumphs and travails as brings a human side to every battle. PS: I did wonder why you didn't just check progress.
