Skills: https://kitlaan.gitlab.io/mwoskill/?p=jsonbin1.5c7f4a965fe2145877977bec#s=Weapons I've been running this variation on a 2x ERLL build since I started playing MWO again recently. I'm a big fan of the Light Engine, finally being able to reduce engine weight without dying to a single torso loss. There's nothing crazy happening in the build--it's just a solid performer that does what it's supposed to do. I can scout without getting spotted easily, I can support the front line and keep ECM on them, and I've got great sensor range for keeping LRMs in the target business. And for fun I can pull off the BAP & ECM, put on 2 Snub-Nose PPCs plus a heat sink, and go do stupid stuff.
Usually good to go BAP or ECM depending on what your mech can do, as most BAP benefits, or at least the important ones are overshadowed by ecm
IMHO sensor range is meaningless, you don't need locks or info gathering to shoot enemies: once you know what weak spot an enemy mech has, you can keep on hammering it regardless of BAP bonus or not. TC1 range bonus is always welcome, and if you strip some armor you can fit a decent engine (LE245 isn't really great, but at least you are decently fast). Still, IMHO isn't really worth it: every LE build makes the assumption you have to lose a side torso to exploit the only true advantage of that engine. The issue here is that you either lose 4 DHS out of 11, or you lose both ERLL and become useless for the team. IMHO 2xERLL with XL engine has overall better survivability due to better speed and acceleration/deceleration, so the chances to gain a free trade are higher, you probably need to work on positioning and how to poke. Still, 2xERLL is no more worth it, it's an old almost dead meta, at least IS side: there are better lights for laser vomit, especially wolfhounds.
I'm not looking to laser vomit. If I was I'd be in something with way more energy hardpoints. I'm scouting, spotting for my team, and sniping (typically targets that are being engaged). If I stripped 0.5 tons of armor off, it would be to replace the BAP with TAG & TC1, not to creep the engine up a little. And saying the LE only exploits it's advantage if I lose a torso is only true if you compare it to an XL engine. Compared to a STD engine, I get weight freed up without dying to a single torso loss. I've also lost my right arm, and continued to spot, eventually got behind an enemy assault as he was peeking and kept him from backing up. Wasn't useless.
