    Eyo.

So, I know the most popular weight class is assault, but I'm curious as to what the min/max community is partial to.

Personally I like the Heavy class. It just seems to click for me.

    How about you guys?

Voted heavy myself. While I love my Stalkers, I can't get a grip of the Atlas. I have a lot of fun with my Cicadas and my Blackjack, but when it comes down to it, my heavy workhorses are the most reliable. Whether my K2, my various 'Phracts or the Jagers.

Heavy mechs for me. I can't really get warm with Assaults, every time I pull out the Heavy Metal I end up getting focused, with no friendly support when a bunch of hostile lights come to pay a visit. Lights can be fun, but that's what I use Cicadas for. And while there are pretty decent mediums out there, once I have the level of speed and firepower I expect they're either very hot or very glass cannon.
Heavys seem to provide the best mix of everything: Just enough speed to get around, enough armor and firepower to rush in where angels fear to tread, and enough agility to bring those big guns to bear against light mechs at close range.

I love my spiders and commandos, so I am voting for lights, having said that, I am pretty kickass in a good medium.

Assault. If I wasn't the HJ test pilot it would be pretty much the only thing I drive.

    Heavies for me.

I bought an Atlas, but couldn't really figure out what I was doing in it. Bought a Centurion, seems like wasted tonnage to me.

The only non-heavy I'm good in is the Hunchback, but that's basically a heavy by playstyle - lots of firepower, but shouldn't try to tank.

    Voted Heavy.

Lights don't really have a lot of room for Min-Maxing. They have so little weight that it usually boils down to what combination of MLas and (S)SRMs or how you can squeeze an ERPPC onto it. I love piloting lights, but their builds are boring. Good piloting, bad building.

Mediums are great for the reasons other people highlighted. You actually get some decent builds on some of them, and there's room to tweak to make some truly effective mechs. That said, you are always playing the sacrifice game, dropping heat to get speed, dropping armor to get weapons, etc. As a builder, mediums probably present the greatest challenge/opportunity. Decent piloting, good building.

Heavies are the perfect sweet spot for mechs. They can still manage respectable speeds, have enough armor to play in a group, and bring enough firepower to actually matter in a fight. You've got enough tonnage where builds can highly specialize without losing all your speed or armor. Decent piloting, great building.

Assaults lack so much speed, and are really very team-oriented. They can be fun to play, but they can also be little more than a giant target for the other team. Everyone loves sniping the Atlas. When I bring out my D-DC I typically get focused pretty hard, I manage more consistent damage numbers when I pilot lights. Rotten piloting, good building.

Voted light for the same reason YaoYao didn't.
I enjoy building mechs, but I prefer piloting way more. It's been 10 months I'm piloting the same 6*ML jenner, not bored, it's my favorite mech!

same here epikt, I have over 1,000,000 XP on that F variant. So I said to myself, I need to change this up a bit. So what did I do? Started running the JR7-D. LMAO I did vote lights, as I run the Raven and the Spider as well, they're just not my niche.

    Mediums because I can't find a heavy I love.

Haven't tried Jagers yet but meh... Alot of the players annoy me. (Macro AC2's, AC40 etc).

Cataphract I cant fall in love with I keep buying and selling them all. Not feeling Catapault. Dragon feels like red headed step child...

    I love my K2
    I like my C1
I keep the 3D around just in case I'm asked to use it
Haven't bought an Ilya yet since I'm waiting till a sale.

My heart will always be in lights but I do enjoy the mediums the most I would think.

    At least so far.

I think a well built, well piloted medium can be devastating. my builds tend to run fast with quite respectable sustained damage.

I like heavies, but they are a little bit too much like easy mode, i think the skill and fun lies in mediums and lights (saw a freak in a commando do 700+ damage earlier...respect).

In case its not obvious, mediums all the way.

Most of my builds are heavies, so gotta go there. However, I still likes me a good Atlas D-DC or Stalker 5M or 4P/SP Hunchie run now and again. And lately I've been testing a new build for my Stalker 5M so... will probably post that soon... lights are pretty much the only thing I really never drive... I have the obligatory JR7-F and a Sarah's... probably should take those out more....

90% of my mech bays are occupied by heavy mechs, but I voted for mediums because it really is my favorite and most enjoyable weight class.

Lights, because they're the most fun to pilot. Heavies have the best build versatility, but lights are just more fun.

Really!? i dont get heavies. To slow and too low on armor. (a few exceptions)
Thus far Assaults or lights are much better with heavies being neither here nor there...
As a light, I have the speed and agility to dodge most of the heavies and a pack of lights can easily chew up a pack of heavies since heavies will typically be too slow to hit the lights. If heavies go up against Assaults.. well forget about it, its like going to the grinder..

Heavies are mostly Fire Support, stay out of the way and lay down lots of supportive cover fire. Not to say they aren't deadly, twin Boom stick Jagger or Cat or chainsaw are mechs to fear, but they can be taken out fairly easily too. The Dragon is one to always watch out for. It's basically a medium with lots more weapons and armor and (unlike a Cicada when compared to a Light) it actually is deadly.

... or do i owe all of you an apology and should come to Mechspecs Mayhem more often  ...

Heavy Mechs are great, but I just like the role they play. Fire support, cover fire, give the assults the time they need to get in and draw fire and focus, so you have a chance to use your big DPS. Load out a couple ML's to fend off lights till your MED's & Lights can focus on crowd control and you have one bad a$$ weapons platform. I suppose it all depends on what you have fun doing. I've never enjoyed Tanking, so I don't bother with assults.
For me its Heavys. then Meds then lights.

Gotta vote Assault solely because of the Dragon Slayer. Its my favorite mech. Dont get wrong, I love mediums as my second choice. But there is nothing more satisfying than an 80 ton going 86kph with Jump Jets and a lot of heavy weapons.
