Ey guys. I'm new here, and after a little bit of lurking decided to start a topic.

I was never a missile kind of guy. I just don't enjoy it. I'd much rather use the uber satisfying PPCs, and heavy ballistic weapons to do the job than those little orange things.

So I've mainly been rocking the Cata K2 with a gauss and a couple of ER PPCs, but I've been wondering what you guys like to use to fulfill the role of "sniper". What's your bag? I'd like to invest in a heavier class of mech, but everything heavier seems too missile-oriented

Second that. No Jumpjets tho, but double Gaussiness.

I also run a Double-AC20 Jager-S, but that's not strictly speaking a sniper imho: No ammo for plinking away, so ranged shots are out. You want to get close enough to see the Hula Girl on their dashboard with that, then shove a double-20 down their gullet.

I love my Heavy Metal. You can run 2 ERPPC's and a guass for poptarting of the strawberry kind, I prefer a bit more variety. Currently I run 1 ERPPC, 1 Guass, 2 Medium Lasers, and 2 SSRM's. Makes it able to threaten at all ranges and dangerous to every kind of mech. It might not have the poptart instant punch of the double ER, but I like it non the less.

and ofc if u rly intrested in going heavy, aka assault - see my sig ,o - but honestly i think the Ctf-3d is the best tonnage/weapon balanche for a sniper

I think the 3D is the go-to poptart for most people. My Trebuchet 5J build is a mini-poptart, essentially the 3D build without lasers. Highlanders are popular, too, but I think the Phract has more mobility and a smaller stature.

For direct sniping, the Stalker (any variant with 4-6 PPCs, or HM with 4 PPCs + Gauss) and Atlas RS (4 PPC + Gauss) are great options. In the heavies, some Cataphracts and all Ilyas can do dual Gauss, which will never overheat.

The last few days have been spent grinding out my Catapults since Missiles were OP and it was easy peasy to grind them. So with that said I bought a K2 and loaded her up with 2x ERPPC and 2x LLas and I've been having a blast with it; assuming the PPCs actually register when they hit.

Michael, I think the reason Lasers register and PPCs don't is because you get a bunch of small ticks with lasers. So if 50% of your hits register, you're very likely to not even notice the ticks from the lasers that fail, but you are going to notice the burst of the PPC.

That IS possible however I have tested this on someone standing COMPLETELY still. Sometimes PPCs will hit, sometimes they will show sparks and all that fun stuff but register no damage on the paper doll. It happens (shrugs) just hope eventually they get that locked down. I notice this with ballistics a little bit too but not nearly as much.

Y'know, I never really thought of using the Misery. I'm not too keen on spending a bunch more money to get it, but I might be picking up the Misery for the gauss + 4 PPC

    Cool.

I would say CTF-3D and HGN-732 are the two big poptart snipers. The 3D is a bit more maneuverable and has a better range (ER PPCs.) The HGN-732 has more firepower, but less range since it needs to use a few regular PPCs for heat management purposes. Both are strong mechs.

For peek-a-boo sniping, the STK-3F cannot be beat. The high mounted arms let you barely peek over a hill and fire with minimal exposure.
