Last night after the patch hit I played for about 3-4 hours without issue. Today, I can't play a single match. I crash as soon as the match loads in most times. I've managed to actually play one match out of about a dozen; and that one still crashed out, just after I had been killed by the new FotM missile-chump-line. Just curious if anyone else has been having similar problems. Edit: Thread on the official forums with some potential workarounds for ""malformed packet" crashes: http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/118707-malformed-packet-causing-a-game-drop/
Yes but my issues were right after downloading the patch. Crashed every single time within 30 seconds or so and sometimes while loading. Crashed back to Mechlab or all the way to desktop. Played close to 15 games before I had a full game. then the next one crashed again. Downloaded the newest NVIDIA driver to no avail. I put in a help desk ticket to support. Will add more when I know more. Never had this issue before (been playing since January 2013). Run Windows 8 with NVIDIA G670 graphics card.
If you've been having issues like that check out your "Omicron.log" file in the Mechwarrior Online directory. Look for something like: Code: CGameRules::OnDisconnect: Client has disconnected: cause=eDC_ProtocolError, desc=Remote disconnected: Malformed packet It looks like the client itself has some bad netcode that might be causing the problem for some players, like me!
No fix I'm aware of, I learned about it from this thread on the official forums. There's a handful of other individual threads scattered throughout the support forums too. No reply from the devs or anything on it yet, but the "Malformed packet" disconnect seems like an actual bug of some kind. A couple people have had luck doing random things like disabling anti-virus or playing during off-peak hours. But I think for now we're all just cavemen howling at the lightning.
Updated original post with link that has some potential workarounds for "malformed packet" disconnects.
This sounds like a different crash. Unfortunately, MWO is a very buggy piece of software and fairly crash prone. Delete the whole game and reinstall it. You can save your profiles folder found at "C:\Games\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\USER\Profiles" if you don't wish to reconfigure your hotkeys. Between reinstalls deleting the shaders folder found at "C:\Games\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\USER\" helps reduce frequency. However, you will probably have to do a full reinstall every 2-4 weeks to keep the game functional.
Awesome. Thanks Yiffy and Warskull for your input. So far support has said that the devs are working on the issue. This is what they have sent me most recently (this morning): There are two issues in this ticket now... Kicked to MechLab: this is a disconnection issue - I have all the data I need on that, it's with the devs. No workarounds exists at this point unfortunately, but the devs are working on it. Complete crash: check the USER folder in the game directory next time this happens, and send me the crashdump.dmp file please. This is an actual crash and is quite different than the above. I am so jonesing to play the new map and new features. Best Patch I have seen yet. Thanks again to you guys. It is nice to know someone is listening. MWO community is a great group of people. Will continue to update this thread.
