So, how's everyone enjoying the event? I've been dropping a bit with the MoltenMetal discord peoples, and surprisingly enjoying FP! The insane event rewards make it even better
The rewards are indeed very nice. The clan side seems to be dominating overall but I've had almost 50% of my Invasion drops be at least competitive. I did run up against Aylek and PyckenZot in one battle. That didn't go well for my side
I've only been running IS, and it's been going well so far, won 9/12 Scouting matches, 3/5 Invasion. Clans are mostly winning because more (competitive) people play clan I guess.
Yep, noticed that today quickly too. Defense is doable for IS, if you are patient and don't let clans snipe with superior range. In Attack and most other modes, IS is at a major disadvantage where you can't even come close and kick butt
I love the event, but I as I call myself a CW / FP / whatever-they-call-it fan, take this with a grain of salt. Balance looks fine for me overall. It's the teamplay and coordination of groups which makes one side or the other suceed. We stomped a huge portion of PUG and / or small groups while getting stomped by other teams once in a while as well. While the Dudes are on clan contracts for the whole event, this doesn't mean we prefer either side. It's simply a matter of voting results regarding our rhythm for taking contracts. It takes a bit more effort to suceed on the IS side, but the additional weight for the dropdecks helps a lot - at least when players use this advantage right. Range isn't such a big issue ATM - IS ERLL can be quite harmful if used right. This includes using the correct chassis AND variant: look for range & duration quirks. Additionally, this also comes down to coordination as well, as you need multiple mechs with such a loadout if you want to compete against such an opposing team.
I think The Battle for Tukayyid is fun because many players participate for the rewards and this makes the faction play drop times similar if not faster than quickplay for the time being. Now that there is so many people playing faction at once and the drop times are quick, faction play is actually proving to be really fun. I think it is much more engaging and tactical than quickplay in certain aspects.
History says no. FP will be a ghost town the day after the event ends. I'm not in a unit so my experience outside of events has been terrible. It's a waste of time because the rewards aren't worth it
And this leads me to my next topic I've been wanting to talk about: the inherent mental and physical stresses of playing such demanding games like MWO - especially more so when it comes to being the shot caller / commander. And I'm only talking about quickplay. Faction warfare comes with its own share of stress. I have been taking more breaks than usual lately.
