Been talking to some of my Guild mates and they were saying that the Linebacker will be a single role or niche build. I'm not seeing why they are saying this and was wondering if anyone could clarify it for me.
Not strictly true but its like most clan mechs at the moment - you either run them as SRM/MPL brawlers or medium to long range ERML/LPL laser/gauss vomit. People have got spoilt by the Kodiak with its insane dakka. Looking at the hard points it can certainly do a fast mobile LRM boat but that very mobility for me makes a brawler very tempting. I bought the pack but then I love mediums and it looks very much like a heavily armoured medium rather than the more ubiquitous timberwolf and hellbringer which it will be judged against. PS: Its probably not the strongest of mechs but that's rather because PGI introduced some of the best mechs at the start of the clans aka the stormcrow and timberwolf.
The Linebacker is a niche mech in that it's a very fast heavy mech. The big XL engine comes with the disadvantage of a comparatively low pod space. Given the changes on the current PTS for the upcoming energy draw system and especially the 15-damage pin point cERPPC, it might nontheless become a very potent striker. A lot of capabilities for it also depend on the amount of quirks it will receive.
