People said the same about Mad Dog/Vulture and look where it is now. A niche mech rarely used.

Maddog is/was the clan SRM/streak goto mech.
But other than SRM/streak build you have other mechs being better choices.
For LRM you can easily do with IIC mech now.

Yes. Look where it is now with new mechs and packs to sell.

Am I the only one eyeing the 2R? Two energy hard-points on each arm, with both lower and hand articulation points on each. A C-Bill earner that can be build to truly zombie and track the hell out of anything while it still has arms? As hard as it is to argue with ECM Hero, I'm finding myself dreaming of an Archer that brings a little more pin-point to the party...

    Is that a Marauder II?

    @Jessica Stark
It's a Behemoth. It's one of the unseen mechs from the macros series Monster Mk2 I believe.

    Welcome to MechSpecs!

Thanks for the welcome! :D Never saw the Anime, so I didn't get it. Aside from the top cannons, it does look sort of like the Marauder II though, and i"m still drooling over a 100 ton Assault Marauder with jump jets. >.>

I was prepared to get mad about the hero variant, but it maxes out at 50 LRMs per salvo (45 w/ a high-mounted TAG). Not too crazy, really.

The 5W looks like it'll usher in a new era of splat 'mech. 52 artemis srms (or 54 w/o) will hurt quite a bit. Sure it'll overheat in a single salvo, but with that kinda firepower, who cares? I guess you could run it with 18 SSRMs, but that's probably too niche for viable use.

I do worry that, since the cockpit is right at the center of mass, it'll get headshotted really easily. Also, those long, sloping torsos will probably make it vulnerable to LRM return fire.

Wouldn't worry too much about that. PGI doesn't give much both of to any head slots. I know Soy, Boltthrower, Sol, and I have all tried specialty headshot seeking builds, and even those are hard to get on any mech released so far. The Atlas and Jager are the easiest I've found in game...

Also, does anyone else think the 5W will make the A1 Catapult completely obsolete? Three more missile mounts, and full arm/hand actuators as opposed to the Catapult's boxes. I mean, the Catapult is a classic, but even more missiles....

hell, any mech these days make the entire catapult look like an old dog.

Well, they really need to update the old cat, maybe a bit more hardpoints, and some armor quirk. Right now it is getting outgunned.
I suggest the following hardpoint addition:

    A1: LA+1M, RA+1M
    C1:LT+1E, RT+1E
    C4:LT+1E, RT+1E
    K2:LA+1E, RA+1E, :LT+1B, RT+1B
    J:LA+1E, RA+1E

    Archer quirks are out...

    Sadly.... nothing great.
It will have some good torso twisting capabilities overall, and all variants except for the Tempest have some sort of accel/deccel quirks
Tempest might make an ok brawler type, structural quirks and missile heat reduction.

I think that's the basis for the Stone Rhino/Behemoth in BT.
