XL280: This is how I'm running it currently since the 280 is what I had in stock. It's about as slow as I dare to go in a Dragon, but the gun arm is a beast. For fire support & suppression. Also pretty good for knocking off damaged bits. With current quirks, elite + module, you're getting 42% cooldown on the UAC with a -30% jam chance, and 15% cd on the AC2s. (also 15% range & velocity for all) You can lose a bit of armour/ammo to go up to XL295. Lose a med laser if you want more? XL295:
I was sure there already was a thread... we certainly discussed it, a while ago, it must have been as an alternative to another build. Anyway, it's pretty solid, 2 weeks ago I made a video featuring this build:
Woah! It's practically identical! Yeah I was surprised it wasn't already in the forum too (unless I fail at searching). Great video Anyway this was my first game in it:
Yeah, this build was supposed when the Phoenix mechs were released and we discussed things like the 'Durka durka!' Battlemaster 1D (go on, search the forums!) which has a similar ballistic arm. We figured quickly this would be very doable on the DRG-5N as an alternative to the 3x AC2 build.
I remember those days when there is no ghostheat, where AC2 cause loads of screenshake. This build was right after those days I think. The time after the mass extinction of stalkers with 6x PPC. Good old days.
I run a similar setup. Key differences being that I don't use lasers, and I use an XL270, a case, and diff ammo (4.5t of AC2, & 6.5t of UAC5 currently). I've had decent success. Can't decide if I like the 1N or 5N more. I don't run an XL on my 1N, so that helps I suppose. I fiddled with the UAC5+AC5 build, but I found that the AC5 rof didn't cut it for whenever the UAC would jam Ran out of ammo as the last mech dropped. I don't really get the appeal of the REALLY high speed 5N, since I find it tends to run out of ammo pretty quick. The 1N+C could get away with it simply because they aren't using the same amount of tonnage for the weaponry/ammo.
