So while getting ready to PUG drop on Canyon last night (Name Deleted) types into team chat "NOW IT'S TIME TO BRING THE GRIEF DOWN ON YOU!!!". Just before we drop someone types "grief on who?"
We drop, and the team forms up into the canyon entrance at E3 too look on in amazement as (Name Deleted) piloting a KGC-000B is pulverizing this guy in a 000. Meanwhile, someone comes over the horn with "Who grieved you! YOU'RE AN IDIOT". As the rest of the 000's lance starts firing on (Name Deleted) By this time we are being shot at by the opposing team.... going into the engagement two Assaults short, with other mechs already severely damaged.

    Ummm, we lost the engagement!

First time I've seen something like this..... I blame bad upbringing.

Lol, I had a similar experience on Frozen City not too long ago. My internet cut out for a minute and I got disconnected from the match, and when I reconnected, there where about five people all shouting over each other, and a few pilots (all on my team) just having at each other, shooting and such. The rest of the match was lots of vocal displeasure, and from what I could gather, a guy and his friend allegedly TKed someone else on our team, and a few others stepped in and shot them down, and one man was VEEEEEERY upset because he didn't have enough time to play games, and didn't want to put up with people like that, which I totally understand. He wasn't the perpetrator, but he was so upset, that other people on our team were turning against him. But WOW, what a scene to reconnect right into the middle of, haha. I was quite surprised. Much colorful language was used. We didn't win.

Have had this happen before. I was in an Adder, "ally" was in a Firestarter. I did wind up submitting an official ticket for it, but I essentially got to start the match with an intentional laser alpha to the rear panel and the team chat "where's my money?" Because of his build, the Adder's armor, and my torso twisting I was able to eat a few more, but two heavier team-mates caught on after the third salvo and happily AC20ed the AHole in the rear panel. I don't rightly remember if we won or lost, but I went down early because I had NO ARMOR LEFT, and we down a full light from the get-go.

While I respect the policies of any board I post on, including the main forums, I also say my piece: policies that prevent name sharing/shaming are always a step backwards...but it's not my forum, and I am a guest in this proverbial home, so names have been redacted to protect the guilty. Yes, I understand from a logistical perspective that it keeps moderator work down (it preempts reactive harassment, technically solving a problem) but anonymity and freedom from consequence are compounding factors to why this shit happens.

Bad upbringing can definitely be laid a fair share of blame for people who do this ANYWAY, even knowing punishment will occur. But for insight into internet troll psyche, I share something constructive (TV Tropes link with profanity. You've been warnified and stuffz):

Team killers are always an issue in any game. I've had notices from PGI for leaving a teammate after they started intentionally firing on me, but I figure if they tear half My armor and an arm off, their leg is fair game to make them a treat got the enemy far behind the group.

Then again, I'm a prick like that.

I've had games where I just let someone TK me, knowing they'd get banned. And sure enough, they did!

In all honesty, I find MWO has an extremely limited population of TK'ers. Most of the time it is even an extreme reaction to someone misclicking,...
Personally I think I average around 10 team damage per match which I find very acceptable taking into account bumping damage and team behaviour.

Now on the question of frustration shooting, I may or may not have been known to gently stroke a friendly shoulder with some light emitters to urge them to gtfo of my way whilst all hellfire is tearing my armor off and the minimap is clearly showing a full enemy regiment in my back,...

Because of the text banter before the drop, the only thing I can figure is my OP was a grudge carried over from a previous match..... which is kind of lame, but it was quite a site watching two KGC's battle it out while the rest of us looked on Trial of Grievance style. The whole thing was intentional and pre-meditated... a far cry from the occasional "Test Fire", that cores your backside, from the noob that never fired autocannons before. Or the unintentional TK because of the nugget in the BJ that decides to take a stroll in front of his team's firing line.... Felt sorry for that guy until he started bitching up a storm about it.

I wish I had been recording during this match.

@The Verge Thanks for mentioning no names, I was a little worried about that when I posted with (Name Deleted) hoping it would self moderate.

@Cpt Chattahah A just trade in my book.

I'm happy to agree with PyckenZot, about the low amount of TKers. It's very refreshing to have a game community who acts like responsible adults, who, for the most part, respect other players and are happy to help each other out. I love the MWO community as a whole. Did anyone ever play League of Legends? I played it for a couple years, starting like 6-7 years ago when it was fairly new (holy crap I can't believe it was that long ago!) and watched the community turn into THE MOST TOXIC WHINY CRY BABY ASS**** COMMUNITY EVER. 50% of all matches eventually turned into my own team arguing with each other about one thing or another, god I'm happy there was no voice chat! But that led to everyone typing at each other all game so they wouldn't even move cause their hands were typing away.

While I don't like it, I am fine with accidental TK. I mean, shit happens and sometimes your boomboom just happens to land on your friend.
It is actually a surprise that we don't have many TKing idiots in this game. I have seen a couple back in the 8 man days, but even since Tier they seem to be less common.

Seen a couple really bad ones during a event in CW though.

Some fucking kid is taking that command thing and barking orders like he own the fucking place, and is obviously ignored. Then he got pissed and goes on to TK 3 mechs. Eventually we tell the red team also and I think everyone reported him. I think he is trying to report everyone on the game also, everyone.

As for the testfire thing, I did it sometimes, though usually not hitting other players.
I have this bug where once in a few games the beams of Pulses won't show up (they still do damage so I assume enemies see them), so I test them when I have Pulses, just so I won't be surprised.

Anymore, when I accidentally do have a random muscle twitch that causes me to accidentally fire on a teammate before we've engaged the enemy, I slobber all over myself and apologize. That actually happened the other night two matches in a row, but my immediate and profuse apology seemed to do enough to stop an over-reaction by my team mates in both cases.

Another thing I actively do to avoid "test-firing" on teammates is to never run in full-resolution-windowed mode, since clicking on the game window to bring focus back to it will fire whichever weapon group you have assigned to that mouse button. I have to alt-tab back into MWO, or click on the MWO icon on my taskbar to get back into the game.

Yet a third thing I do is when I'm in game, and we're moving toward our initial engagement with the enemy, I tend to keep my cross hairs carefully away from my team mates. After all, one of the first three rules of firearm safety is to never point at anything you don't intend to shoot. It would be nice to have an arm/disarm feature in 'Mechs, same as is present in modern (real) war machines. As in, you can't accidentally fire weapons when they're not armed(LRMs and SSRMs in MWO have this feature, sort of).

Last time I got into an altercation with another player on the battlefield, it was because of my accidental friendly fire, which resulted in his retaliation, and a momentary lapse of judgement on my part which caused me to return fire for about one volley, until I realized that it was exactly that type of stupidity which could throw the match and make us lose. I was fortunate to be in a 'Mech more mobile than his, and simply ran away from him until I was able to access some terrain where he couldn't follow me, and I could simply move a little bit to avoid his line of fire. A bit later, he gave up and I was able to push back into our enemy. I still had a good line on our enemy from my spot for the duration of my exile. :) We won.

It helps that you can bring up the score screen now, and report another player for any number of offenses to include either team damage or team killing from within the game, without having to email or go to a website.

Team damage is common, anything from LRM to a fireline will cause team damage, even accidental impact.
I almost always have 2-3 point of team damage per game, for various reason.
If you report for accidental damage then you are a fucking asshole.
On the other hand, deliberate team attack and TK should be reportedon.

    Agreed!

I used to pull more team damage back when I ran predominately ballistic builds, mostly due to the example I stated above when a teammate runs in front of me just as I was pulling the trigger. Now that I am leaning more towards Energy heavy builds, my number stays in the single digits.

I've never had the misfortune of TKing someone, but I have been brought down several times.... most of which were my own fault.

I think I've been TK'ed twice, and have TK'ed twice. I'm sure the Tk's against me were honest mistakes, and the times I Tk'ed someone else, they ran ran right around a corner into my fire. The first time I accidentally hit them with a double AC20, boy I bet they were surprised! But, on all the occasions, no one's feeling were hurt and we all got along just fine, like good people should. The community in this game definitely makes it as good as it is :)

I once had a TK on 1 Team damage. I've probably got a handful in total. The tough part is that it's not always easy to apologize in the middle of a battle. but like others have said, most people are pretty understanding about it
