Hey all, As you know the launch on Steam may or may not bring a lot of new blood, I for one will be putting in a lot of time streaming and being helpful. I hope all fellow streamers include a "Welcome new players", "Questions answered here" or similar in their stream titles. I also hope we all can spread the word about MechSpecs and in general be attentive of helping new players whenever (wherever) we encounter them. My sole purpose is to spread the love of Battletech and I hope many will help. Thanks all!
Just wonderful to see a group of stock mech going in front of some Mechspecs meta monster. Think about seeing a stock Jager vs a Boomjager.
We're not streamers but we're also ready on the French-speaking front. We wrote (or translate) guides for the basic stuff and just launched a Youtube channel to host guides and commented gameplay. And more importantly we're ready to help and answer questions in the french subforum, and welcome rookies in our units. Not only the game is not really noob-friendly, but in a game only available in English we think it's important to provide French-speaking support for those who are not so fluent in English. So, if by any chance you know French speaking cadets seeking advice and company, feel free to entrust them to us Hopefully we'll save them from the drop in stock Jagermech.
Indeed, the early learning curve of this game is steep. That, and mech crafting can be a hard craft to pick up.
Steep indeed! I thought I could take on the world in my Jenner when I started playing! I often died before the 2 minute mark, disconnected from that game, grabbed a trial mech, join a new game, die in less than 2 minutes... I think I had 3 destroyed mechs still in game one time... My KDR was baaaaaad. Probably as low as 0.28 during my early days, possibly even lower... But as I post this after playing for approx. 6-7 months, I brought my KDR up to 0.88, and just about an inch away from making it to Tier 3! But I didn't do it alone, no sir! The community of this game is amazing, everyone is glad to help you out. They don't get mad and yell at you for doing poorly; they give you advice on how to do better, almost always with an audible smile Thanks guys! "Dude, Kyle, I have so many missiles! 720!" ---Me customizing my very first owned mech, a CPLT-C1, ran with a STD engine, cause I had FOUR WHOLE MEDIUM LASERS, and thought I could brawl with the best of 'em...
During closed Beta I thought it was a good idea to buy Jenners because they cost less, but in terms of skills they cost more. So I too had a very poor KDR and felt like I was banging my head against a wall. After a break and finding out about MechSpecs things certainly changed, and my KDR hasn't looked back
surprisingly, the steam reviews and discussion are fairly calm. glad to see many veterans assisting the new players.
I read 86% overall review Score (out of nearly 400 reviews). That's impressive. I thought we had more haters than fanboys. It's very surprising. What i like to know is, how do the new players find the game.... And if they find it to us - mechspecs and join our lab.
It's hard to say, with the tier system anyone in tier one or two will never see a new guy who starts in five. Unless it's in a group but then he already has helpers. Some ppl have started new accounts just to help new ppl with answers. That might be the way to be more helpful and promote MechSpecs.
I'm in tier three since just starting to play again and grind the marauders. I've seen people that have recognised me and discussion ensues and I pimp it. It's like you guys are trying to keep this site around or something.
A good start. Now, to guide players to mechspecs. As an ex-new-player, I rather enjoy it. The control is easy and simple. Once you get started making builds are easy and fun, it is just a matter of tweaking it, and that cost minimal cbills. I love having this bunch of new mech, just got one, called marauder or something. Is that the review you are looking for?
