It's a bit late.. but not too late! Originally released 24th July 1995. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MechWarrior_2:_31st_Century_Combat Who played this game 20 Yrs Ago? What did you like? Do you still have the Original CDs somewhere? Were you Wolf, Falcon.. or Bear.. or another Beast? Was it your first MW Game Experience? Whatever you can feel about it - just let us know. btw. let`s collect some cool MW2 Stuff here. I begin with this creative guy:
At the time, this was the coolest game intro I had ever seen. Check out how skinny the mech's legs are!
My true introduction to Battletech. We did have MW1 at home too but I was 9 when that came out. I only looked at it when I started to appreciate MW2. Which wasn't in 95 either. My younger self (as a typical lazy teen) didn't like the game. When I used "cool" weapons my mech would overheat like crazy. I didn't get why I had ER weapons but not normal range ones. MGs were useless. I couldn't kill enemies fast enough. I couldn't win battles easily enough. The most interesting part of the game was the intro Seen that 1995 also gave me C&C, WC IV, Descent, Dark Forces and others, I let the big stompy robots linger. (note in my defense, we were only allowed 1 hour game time a day.) 't Was a few years later (ample free time at uni) that I went back into my old game closet and started getting into games that I didn't have the patience to learn earlier. The more mature me appreciated the game and played Jade Falcon, learnt the lore and restarted as Clan Wolf . The rest, as they say,... is history.
From Jade Falcon to Jade Wolf! I think there are some texture packs out there for the game to make them look slightly better. Not sure if the mods and things still work though.
My exposure to this was actually middle school. And I don't mean, "at that age", I mean LITERALLY in the school, because our tech-class teacher was awesome. So long as we completed the assignments ahead of time and aced them without cheating, we were allowed to use some of the designated class study time to use the PCs there for MW2 group combat (usually free-for-all over LAN). 3 was already out, but 2 was what we had to work with (limitations of the computers available and teacher's access to the software). That experience actually segued me to the Clix game made by WizKids through the...Topps license at the time, iirc? Which THEN led me to find 'true' table-top and MW4 when it came out. That's kind of weird knowing I never played MW3.
We did it a while back, other projects have been discussed but few realized due to constraints of IRL or game issues. Now that we get the spectator tool, I imagine we will be able to due some kickass movies. Oh, the bloopers video from those takes is awesome. Some real gold there, discoing mechs walking off set, actors misunderstandings, people dying in the wrong spot etc. I wonder how the guys managed to stand me redoing that jump and shot take so many times. You know how hard it is to hit (and kill) a Summoner in midair without HUD? ;P
