Stock engine was fine. Similar to the Zinger build, even a little faster. Some high armor levels, you could probably remove some armor to add another heatsink if you feel like overheating due to ML spam. First idea and post. That and I just have to overload all the hard points. Quirks maximized! Don't fight this thing at range, 2 AC5s spamming is a mad armz chunker for some reason. I keep getting assists and component destroy notifications a lot. Thoughts?
Minor update That extra heatsink was redundant. Added a 3rd ton of ammo to the AC5 x2. 4 ML still hits with the force of an AC20 but I was over estimating the heat buildup. I would have loved to stick an LRM 20 in the arm (it's a 20 tube capable limb I think) but when you're aiming arms at fast moving lights, Slamming them with 6 SRM is quite satisfying, especially when a leg breaks.
I'd both want more cooling and more AC5 ammo in there. Easiest way to do that is by lowering the engine size a bit. Speed is still fine, at least after unlocking speed tweak. This would be my version (which I actually like). You can swap the AMS + ammo for another DHS (engine) or even more AC5 ammo.
Thanks for the reply Aylek. I've always liked your Atlas variants as well. Another update. Due to the quirks of the ZEU-6T which include missile cooldown, I've decided to approach this with a more Long Range approach. This quirk includes a missile range update but no cooldown so out fighting from over 1000m is possible. Unfortunately, you have to make a decision... I found I needed Ferro Fibrous armor to make enough tonnage to fit, but there was just enough critical slots that it worked! Behold, ZEU-6Slayer Rex! With 4 tons of ammo, you can split it between 2/2 AC+LRM. If you like direct fire brawling, I've done 3/1 or if you want to spam LRMs into the clouds from 1125m, then 1/3 splits for ammunition. I found myself dying less with this design cause I noticed that 3 SRM6 design on the ZEU-6T just works better than just a single SRM6 on this chassis. That and being able to LRM from outside their effective reach is sadistic and satisfying. Oddly enough, I don't want to go below 320 engine just because of the size being stock. This thing running at 71 kph is really good for setting up another sniping point/bombing point. I tried experimenting with a much bigger LRM launcher, the LRM 15 and 20 and taking out an AC5. however I then found myself at a very large advantage on several maps where there's a lot of cover from LRMs, like tunnels and what not. Going down to 10 LRM ended up being a good balance for me. I get that the ammo counts are low, but by then, the vast majority of mechs are in pieces and I'm "zombie" blitzing with 4 MLs.
Investing 8+8 tons of weapon system (AC5's) and only two tons of ammo (300 damage potential)? I'd bring four tons or more myself. I like the original build and will try to do something with AC5's aswell. Thanks for the ideas!
This. I actually switched my build to exactly the one I proposed (wasusing 2x AC5 + 4 MPLas before) and it works pretty well. It looses the advantage of the whole right side being a shield side, but shielding only works so much against experienced players anyway. The amount of damage incoming to the left side when playing a Zeus turned out to be ridiculous for me, so having some firepower on the right side will ultimately be an advantage. I dislike the LRM10 build. I'd rather go for a single 15-sized launcher here while using a single AC10 for example, but this is pure theorycrafting without even using Smurfy's. As a Mod I also have to add that a thread in the build section is meant for discussing one single build. Feel free to start a new one with that alternate loadout.
Thanks for your ideas. After more testing, I've come up with something else. The AC5 just isn't great fire power to weight so I'll be adding the LRM 15 idea and posting some results under a new thread and build. Btw, it's my new 'favorite' version of this chassis since it's also a champion type with the Rebellion paint job.
I play it this way with a little extra cooling: You if you don't mind the heat, pull the one external DHS for another ton of AC5 ammo.
