Ahh reddit is full of total shit posts though all made by pmt fuelled rage drama queens. There's literally no quality control at all. For every 1 good post there are 10 awful or incorrect ones.
Don't have time to follow multiple fora,... as such you can find me seeking info and discussion where I can get most out of one. Le Me = MechSpecs fanboy
So I decided the only way I will play IS, is to make a pay to lose Hero drop deck. I'm slowly selling off all my leftover regular IS mechs, except for a lonely 3D. Thus I bought a St. Ives' Blue 2 nights ago, it's fun. Everytime I get a kill I go "you're under arrest" in chat, it's funny. The LL quirk is decent. I'll post a build here when I get it finalized, prolly around 2 LLs on a standard, otherwise you get shoulder popped in group play (this is for CW remember). I really want to Zombie it but it's so 'zzz' doing ML + SRMs... I want to build it around each weight class, and the other Hero I own is The Death's Knell. Today I'm going to buy the "Killer Deal" with 6500 MC, the Nova A, and the Mech Bay for $30. I'm sitting on 320 MC currently, so that's just enough for the Heavy Metal. That's going to be my Assault. I know you can probably name some worse Heros than Heavy Metal for Assault, but it's just... so... fucking sweet! If I'm spending this much I might as well get an Assault I might actually get a laugh out of. But... regarding Heavy... I want you guys to give me your opinion: IV-FOUR? Yeah???
Remember bro, keepin it derpy. Isn't Fang pretty good? I mean I'm not tryin to make the ultimate pay to lose dropdeck, this ain't true min/min, but ain't tryin to sneak anything in too good, either. Originally I was gonna do Pirate's Bane, Dead Snail, RoboCop, and Sparky. Then I thought, naa, Sparky's kinda legit. Then I thought Loup De Guerre, then I thought man fuck that mech, and came up with the 1 each weight thing.
IV4 got some pretty insane AC5 quirks, but those arms are hanging pretty low. I'd go for a Firebrand, Jester or *gasp* Fang if I wanted another heavy hero... but already own them all but the Quickdraw. Reasons? Firebrand can do all the nasty things the other Jagers are prominent for, such as 2x AC20 or 2x Gauss. 2x PPC + 2xAC5 is sweet and plays into it's quirks, but I still prefer 2x UAC5 + 2x ERLLas. Jester might seem odd, but going 4x LLas / 3x LLas + 3x MLas in combination with 2x AMS makes for an awesome (read: by IS standards) midrange support mech with JJs. Fang is a personal favorite of mine because I love the fully articuled AC10 / 2x AC5 arm with decent speed. It's sad they took away those lovely LPLas quirks during the second quirk pass, but AC10 + 2x LPLas still works nicely. It's also extremly satisfying to account for several kills in something fragile and seemingly crappy like a f*cking Dragon. Bonus: you get to level the nasty DRG-1N! As a side note, why the HM? I'd rather expect a Misery here or possibly a DS (VTRs do need some attention quirk-wise, though). However, Highlanders did get some love this week and it's definitely recognisable, but the choice surprises me nontheless. EDIT: totally missed the pay-to-loose part...
Dude lol I am not choosing mechs based on quirks. I'm choosing them based on their obscurity/overall rogueness in the general scene. Hardpoints comes a distant third. JJs a distant fourth. I've glanced at Heavy Metal quirks once for like 10 secs. :/ I would do a La Manche, Pretty Baby, or Hellslinger, but those have no JJs and I truly cannot be asked to play any Assault without JJs this time around :/ What's worse/cheesier/better/morefun... Dragon Slayer or Heavy Metal guys?
Flame/Fang because you never see them... this is also because of their lackluster quirks Jester might be a good.... bad choice too.
Jester all the way! Not only do I hardly ever see one, they're pretty 'meh' overall... Most importantly, that thing is ugly as sin xD Defeat your foes with gaudy paintjobs!
IV-Four was pretty much the derpiest of the heavies before the quirk pass, and I still almost never see them. That reminds me, though, when the heck are they gonna get around to the TDR hero?
I straight up hate my Dragon Slayer. I haven't played it in 6 months. There are people who can do good things in it but I'm not one of them. Low hardpoints and giant hit boxes. The only good thing about it is you can put in a big engine and run fast. For trolling - huge XL engine, AC-10 and a couple of LPLs. Run around like a clan heavy doing medium damage. If you're a pop-tarter though I think there are a bunch of PPC, AC-5 builds that work for people.
It's true, @Solahma That Jester skin is WICKED! Only beat (in my mind) by the Huginn skin and possibly the new Kurita skin...
If only the HM could have customization on the kill horn. I would TOTALLY put Himsa or Amon Amarth as my new favoritest Warhorn!!!
You know, I may just do the Jester. Can someone take a picture of their Jester in Camo Skin section and pick Black as all 3 colors, then take a SS and upload it for me? I wanna know whether or not you can drown out that ugly skin. I'm sorry guys, I'm not tryin to impersonate Jack Nicholson from The Shining.
