I meant all of the people who spam chat, just want to swear everyone out, or where you get multiple alpha males.

Public VOIP in game is usually more of a distraction than a help in my experience.

I never had any bad VOIP games...had a couple where people didn't use it, but I also had some PUG matches where all 12 people coordinated like they were a group queue premade, and we stomped the enemy. I've taken to sharing the same info I use in TS3 (calling out contacts and vulnerable mechs, as well as trying to direct focus fire), and it's worked out very well. My impression for day one VOIP has been very good.

Yes, so far, my PUG games have been quite decent. People actually being useful on VOIP instead of asking to get muted. Lights B4 C4 , Hotel cored! Enemy flank C4 ! Arty strike! I'm quite amazed up to now how people are behaving. Lets see how long it takes for our 12 yr olds to get on.

Keep in mind, the average age of MWO players is higher than a lot of FPS-style titles since there are so many older mechwarrior/battletech fans. That helps a lot.

So far, I've barely had it used. No one calls out targets or anything. The only bad experience was on Frozen City Night, Assault. One lance pushed tunnel - silence. Another lance follows, because that looks like a base rush. Finally someone speaks up, implying that the lance following was unexpected and not what was desired. (Why did you not say something before?) Well, half team went tunnel, half team went hill. We get rolled. Asshat calls us noobs at the end.

It's been VERY helpful in PUG CW. I played a few games last night and even though only about half of the team was using VOIP, it was incredibly helpful to be able to coordinate on the fly with non-unit members.

    A question if I may?
How are you guys managing to run both TS and voip? It's hyper intrusive to me, is there a way to set TS up so it mutes mwo or dims it down when a TS user speaks?

I'm usually in a channel with others that drop with me, ergo no problem since they are listening to the same ingame VOIP and will shuddup when information comes.

If there are other people in the channel with me who isn't dropping with me, I just mention I'm ingame and mute them so I can listen to the ingame VOIP. But this scenario rarely happens as people who are in the same channel respect the fact I'm ingame. I usually use our channel as a private coms while listening to ingame TS.

TS3 itself cannot adjust other PC sound, I use Mumble and that can be set as having sound priority and will dampen all other PC sounds by XX% when someone speaks. You can try to do something within Windows control panel and the sound settings. There's a communication tab there that allows you to dampen other sounds when receiving calls. I think that counts when using VOIP solutions aswell.

I've noticed a change in the game since VoIP was introduced. Even if only one or two players are using it on a team I'm seeing a lot more quordination and teamwork and a lot less stomps. It seems to be an excellent addition. Of course, I might change my mind if I start to see a lot of trollers, but I haven't seen any yet.

My favorite VOIP moment is when people start arguing with me as they do what I instructed over voice chat ;) Had a team on Caustic follow my instructions, but bitch the entire time about it...until we won 12-1. I couldn't help myself...

"You're right, going right around D3 was a horrible idea." ;)

They at least had the sense to say I was right after the match hehe.

My only 'bad' VOIP experiences in MWO so far (aside from possible lag and first-match-after-daily-turnover -crashing issues) have actually been when it wasn't used at all, which has happened a fair bit. So far my actual 'VOIP was used this match' experiences match Durandal's, where it at least decreases the 'ahmigadPUG' aspect a bit.

Honestly I have found it useful in CW only. In my time zone, it's virtually never used in pug matches and when it is-is not helpful at all.
CW as I said is a different story however and I'm glad it's in for that, even if it's terribly confusing having two sets of voices competing for my attention.

    Confession time.
There's one thing I really like about the VOIP - When someone on my team bitches in chat about how the team sucks, etc... I can verbally state, "Cry Harder" faster than they can disconnect from the game.

I find I use VoIP more than most...and I use it simply: "Bravo, Dire Wolf, Center Torso", then nothing else. Sometimes it does nothing, but occasionally I will see 6 people suddenly shift targets to the target I called, and it will just melt. Was on Forest Colony last night and called out a King Crab as a target, and 11 other people fired at it all at once, it was just unholy to see during a PUG match. It's incredibly useful, but people have to use the damn thing!

My "favorite" thing so far is when someone is completely silent, then they get jumped and die, and they suddenly say "WTF you guys didn't help me!" over VoIP. To which I always reply "You clearly had a mic, if you got jumped, you could've called for it." To which they always reply something like "Fuck you." and disconnect ;) It's dumbfounding to me that people have voice chat now, but they still don't realize that it could have saved them, or won them a match...

I actually am impressed with the in game voip.

There are much less trolling than I have anticipated, and so far no fucking kids yelling at the mic.

I will leave the feature on.

Oh, you can indeed mute individual player by clicking on their speaker button.

On the 17th we will get rid of the annoying confirm button and get a small popup of who's talking even in the pregame screen.

I have mostly had good experiences with VOIP so far. Every now and then someone gets muted but generally the comms have been pretty useful.

The most annoying experience I've had with it was walking in on my 13 year old son (9 year old daughter watching) who is playing my alt account (he thinks it's his) while blasting some annoying music with the mic next the computer speaker and capslock depressed. He looks at me and says "Look Dad" and points at the icon that shows he's broadcasting to the VOIP. I told him he isn't allowed to be a dick on my computer. This is a kid in the top 2% nationally in math, science and language arts and he acts like a moron online. 13 year old boys are simply idiots.

Although he's not very good at MWO, he usually isn't a deliberate jerk. I'm pretty sure he hasn't continued to abuse VOIP but I'm keeping an eye on him.

At least that's the worst of the bad computer behavior I've walked in on. I'm sure it will only get worse. I need to find a good porn blocker.
