Classic Mechwarrior Weapons that need to be in MWO

    I reinstalled my copy of MW4: Mercs today and holy cow that is still fun! I couldn't help but notice the insane variety to customizable option available in that game that I would love to see in MWO and here they are and why:

    Light PPC/Gauss: Mediums would love to pack bigger weapons but they lack the tonnage to carry these weapons as well as sufficient ammo as well as back up weapons.

    Assault Laser: YES PLEASE! This 5 ton beast is an absolute terror, it's a 20 damage laser, an ammo-free AC20. This on a CN9-AL, an ammo-free CN9-AH. PGI please make this happen!

    Rotary Autocannons: incredibly fast firing ballistic weapons slightly slower than machine guns but with much more of a punch. The tonnage on these balances them well.

    SRMs (larger sizes I think it goes up to 40): The thing the Splatcat needs to become viable, classic LRM boats could be tweaked into short range threats

    MRMs: Don't feel like being limited by SRMs but don't wanna sit back using LRMs? Then here is your compromise.

    PPC w/ Capacitor and Recharger: a nice power boost at a cost for PPC mechs like the Vindicator. Since it is a normal PPC it would benefit from the PPC quirks

    Any more ideas from previous mechwarrior games you guys have?

    Dumb-fire rocket launcher

    And whatever the gigantic ballistic weapon was that you had to arc like a grenade to hit anything with.

    Oh you mean the Long-Tom? haha that would be interesting. I can picture the Mortar Hunchbacks trying to fire it

    That's it! I can't remember ever using it effectively on the Mektek servers but I think I just have a thing for big guns on mechs.

    There is not Assault Laser in Battletech, which this game is based off. So this is unlikely. SRM's only go to 6, but MRM go to up to 40.

    As for my suggestions, change the IS UAC5 to work like the cUAC5. Then, add the light gauss/ppc with the capacitor and charger, and have them work with the gauss rifles. Add IS LBX 2, 5, and 20. Add IS UAC2, 10, and 20. Add MRMs

    and then you have a better MWO :D

    oh ok I thought MWO was based on other mechwarrior video games my bad :p cause there is an assault laser in MW4. And yea I misread its MRM 40 no SRM 40 (though that would be cool) though I think your idea would be a good improvement definitely with a balance between clanners and IS players

    Well technically there are 12 versions of lasers in TT. Looking at the list assault lasers in MW4 could be "Heavy" lasers, which were clan high damage versions with the range of the IS version but doing higher damage and with a slight charge delay. Reality though is MW4 changed a lot of stuff. ;)

    I would be happy with Autocannons working like they are described in the books. Where an AC10 sends out a shrieking howl and spits out a stream of lead. Not this BANG..................................... BANG.............

    I think the laser anti-missile system would make for an interesting choice. By no means game breaking, but would add an interesting choice between LAMS and an AMS + ammo. LAMS would generate heat, AMS does not but is bound by ammo limitations.

    Naval PPC's are on vessels massing up to 2 million tons.......

    Naval Autocannon shells weigh more than a mech from memory.

    Laser AMS are cannon for Clan.

    Nah, only 6 Tons for 5 rounds - Naval AC 40, Heavy Naval gauss has half a ton per round.


    They actually have most of the weapon systems that are in the Lore for 3050.

    Below is what I found missing

    Sniper Artillery Cannon - now this would be very interesting, optimal between 360m & 480m, Area of Effect, and you could squeeze 2 of them in Crab :D

    Have you ever thought about consumables that they could add to the game to give it more tactical options?

    I would like to get an artillery smoke screen which could be upgradeable to have Hot Smoke to take out the Heat vision and chaffs to give momentary under enemy ECM effect.

    You could use it to cover your advance or just placed it on enemy to blind them a moment before your team is about to push into them.

    Snub PPCs... Light Gauss... SB Gauss... Thumpers... Mines...

    There's lots of good possibilities. I would personally love to see SB Gauss and Mines. An LBX Gauss? YES, PLEASE! A cheap consumable one-use landmine? Depending on how it's setup, it could be a lot more effective for certain tactics than Airstrikes and Artillery... Thumpers to get over terrain? Might be a pain to get your trajectory right, but, could offer some interesting gameplay... Plenty of things are possible... I just don't think PGI wants to dedicate resources to new weapons that won't make them cash like a new mech will...

    How Could I forget Arrow IV AND Snub PPCs? I get giddy just thinking about the possibilities there....

    I think the Arrow IV shouldn`t be too difficult to implement in the game. I`ve loved this weapon since i read the book "Close Quarters" by Victor Milan.
