Yeah I actually like Mist Lynx as a mech objectively a lot more than Kit Fox. But this is a diff game, diff shit, so... I just think Mist is too limited in what it can really do. Not a lot of wiggle room. That being said, I'd prefer it over like... a Spider or Commando.
Oh its definitely a one trick pony as it has so few heat sinks but I've won us a few matches as last man using it. Other times I've felt decidedly ineffective against alert enemy teams. Half tempted to retry it after the hitbox changes.
That's because it's a 30 ton Light Mech! Mediums with 4-5 jump jets still pop-tart very well, but heavies like the 3D and assaults like the Lowlander and Victors are nothing like they were in terms of the pop-tart meta. The Nova, IMO, is probably one of the best pop-tart mechs in the game atm. 2x cERPPC or cGauss+cERPPC with 5x JJ and light enough to get quick acceleration and good height. Definitely not a try-hard mech as the 2x cERPPC version is hot and the cGauss+cERPPC version requires you to stip 1/2 your armor. Fun as hell though, if you enjoy pop-tarting in a kitfox, you have a Solahma's guarantee that you would enjoy these Nova builds. (Nova-A is only available for cash atm though. Required for the first build's Left Torso "A" omnipod)
Its amusing how people react to a jumping DWF it has to be said... "you fucking P2W bullshit merchant" and "you cunt remarius" was in one match on Sunday evening after I managed to land a couple of full dual gauss/ dual er ppc volley on a TDR and TBR in the fens. Irony is it was actually really hard and took multiple attempts as it rises so slowly even with 3 JJ. Wasn't going to tell them that though. Can't see myself keeping it and will drop to a prime with 1-2 JJ and a different armament I think.
So, are you all aware of how mind-numbingly stupid Skirmish mode is? Is this actually in the game or am I hallucinating? Every round turns into "lets find the 12th whos in a cored out ecm light JJ'd on some hidden edge of map AFK making a sandwich" Monumental retardation ensues. What a colossal fuckup of a concept being implemented... PS - I have AFK 8/8'd basics in the other 2 fox variants today, woot! xD PPS - again, when clan mechs were truly unveiled [ie on smurfy] I was like this regarding Nova: "yep... awesome... this is nice.. that's nice too... ah its as slow as a heavy that does even more of the same shit? Trash."
But that's the beauty of a medium, sure, you're solo dropping so it doesn't matter, but in a group those slots DO matter. Plus, the Nova can poptart MUCH better than the only JJ capable heavy for the clans thus far. No comparison there. All you need is enough speed to keep up with those heavies, and it does
If you want to challenge yourself sure but the thing is you'd have to be using both the TBR and Nova to compare them. There are also some other options anyway - Summoner - though I was never that much of a fan of that chassis. PS: Make sure to Fraps it.
Are you guys aware of the fact that pugstomping is at an all time high, which is indicative of an unevenly stratified playerbase (aka not big n stable)? I'm gonna assume you all know that and just say, "holy shit".
I hate the mode, but love the salty tears of the players bitching about the last ECMed mech hiding away. Especially because it's probably the same exact fucking people who bitched about Base Cap Rush in assault mode. They got what they wanted, but didn't fully take in what the consequences of their desire might be.
Eh people complain a lot... and I'm an absolute hypocrite since I AFK grinded alllllllll yesterday, but at least when I tabbed in and found 11 dead teammates, I'd just override and blow myself up, save everybody a bit of time... But really, objectively speaking, it's a pretty stupid mode. It entirely ruins the flow of the gaming experience. If you sit down to play for an hour, and only get in 4 rounds cuz they keep ending on an unsuccessful 8-min search for some PD'd light, the pacing and rhythm of that brief play session is worse than a primetime movie on TNT with a zillion commercials. Like this for example (watch the whole clip, I know it's bad quality):
There are so many new maps, and I have no idea what I'm doing on most cuz I haven't sat in Testing Grounds to study them or anything, and most of my focus has been about learning my mech, regaining aim touch, and heightening situational awareness again. So I've had a few moments on the swamp map where I've tried to basically snipe or pounce on someone from those high ledges with my Kit Fox, but occasionally the results look like this: The mini map on swamp is a complete lie, that's all I'm saying.
I've not piloted an IS mech since returning, and have zero desire to. I consider my 3Ds as retired, and sold 3 but kept the original Multipass. It should be in a musem somewhere. Still have my Death's Knell, which I think I bought to make some vague statement a long time ago about "paying to lose" or something esoteric like that. Still have my Quickdraw, which I prolly only piloted a couple dozen times but always loved - perfect anti-meta derp mech in my opinion (at least back then with the smaller pool to select from). And I kept my AWS-9M, not only cuz it's great derp, but also cuz I got a Phracken on that puppy. I'm no hoarder but I refuse to throw away that premium one-shot camo! Nevar! In other words, I think I'm really only going to pilot Kit Fox. If I do stick around (still not sure) then inevitably some form of poptarting Timber Wolf. I don't want to touch that mech unless I know I'm staying. Otherwise if I play that mech I'll just shit all over people and it will influence my decision. Maybe a Mist Lynx, I really like that mech, but it's so one dimensional in MWO it's sad - just making builds in smurfy makes me back away from playing that mech in game. Also the Dire Wolf with JJs when it comes out, that looks devilishly delightful. I've piloted a Dire about 3 or 4 times (when my Fox is stuck in a match), and literally the first game, first enemy spotted, I just alpha'd and their mech keeled over instantly. Wtf? What a fucking retardedly easy mech to just chuck shit on and wreck faces with. Oh. Of course. I almost forgot... The UrbanMech... for you I save a single mechbay... if I stick around that long (or maybe I'll take off til then ).
Timbers don't really poptart as well as they used to before the JJ and fall damage nerfs...most people just bring enough JJs to use the jump-dodge mechanic and leave it at that. The DWF JJ is even worse, it doesn't really have the "oomph" to make them jump like the poptarters of old, so most people just use it the same way that I've come across. If nothing else, it makes it much easier for them to traverse terrain.
I just wanna say that since I've been back, I've kept coming back to the memory of Sarah's Jenner, and honestly it kinda helps keep me grounded in reality. As in, this MWO shit isn't important. Looking back on it, the whole Sarah's Jenner thing is easily the noblest and most important thing that PGI has ever done: Donations Closed PROCEEDS COLLECTED: $122,300
There's also a few of us who've done some charity streams with MWO. I did an Extra Life stream last year, as did a few others...going to try and do a 24 hour stream (or as long as I can stand) this year too. Something about this community allows for a lot of donations.
