Deep in the laboratory of MechSpecs.com our scientists have been hard at work (not that hard since it is pretty glaringly obvious) discovering and rendering what time looks like; or in this case, a waste of time... I think poor Russel got confused when people said "Pay attention to your players Russel". He thought they were talking about Seahawks players and got tunnel vision and started re-tweeting football shit. Behold! You've been PGI'd son! Now, I know there are several people out there that have their White Knight hat on saying "But Community Warfare is built for team players. Join a team". No. I don't feel I should be forced to join anyone for any reason. The whole fucking game is a "team game" but hey, I tell you what how about me and all the other whiners go and play something else and leave CW to the "team players". Let see how long MWO lasts when you chop off a large portion of your revenue stream. There may be some grey hat guys out there saying "Don't worry, they will fix it all soon". That is possible but will they fix it in time is the question. There are more PUGs than there are Corps/Orgs/Clans/Whatever. Alienate your largest player group and you begin to suffer dwindling revenue which is what is already happening now, hence the Urban Mech bullshit... "We need this much in order to make it" sounds a lot like "Fuck, we hope we can break even and MAYBE may a profit while still giving the illusion that all is well". Have you seen how many players are playing CW? With the dynamic real time numbers of planets the number of players is currently less than 150. The above screenshot sort of illustrates why. Hell even some of the 12 mans I have run up against have been getting bored of farming PUGs. I also kept running in to these guys and the RJF guys out of the 6 CW games I played today only 1 was against another PUG team. The PUG match was the only enjoyable one where there was even a chance of winning (we lost but it was still kinda fun). Getting ass reamed by well coordinated 12 mans who play together 12 hours a day is not fun, at all. It makes me fear for PGI's MWO future. Seahawks games don't take food stamps FYI.
At this point, I haven't set foot in CW since the stocking stuffer event ended. Hasn't been worthwhile, and until it is...why go there when I can do normal queue for cbills and exp?
Because, to me, that would be like making MWO a job. "I must grind XP and cbills and master mechs". I've been doing that shit since Friends and Family Beta. That is what? 3 years now? It is time to evolve the game to what it could be, what it should be. I want to be able to watch my little bar graph go up when I fight for House Steiner. Cause come on, who doesn't like bar graph progress indicators?!?! I couldn't give two shits about owning a planet or having my name on a planet or what not. I'm in it for the Bar Graph!!!
Ahhh well I'm running competition in the group queue this weekend along with most people but I'm curious why you don't all get together on comms like we do on the various House Davion servers?
Steiner does this but PUGs are still PUGs and can't stand up to well practiced and well trained 12 mans. Take for instance RJF... I know 3 of those guys I faced today don't have jobs and play MWO 12 hours a day (I'm friends with two of them actually). They have been playing together for 2 years. That kind of Try-hardism doesn't come from just TS3 comms it comes from practice practice practice (and a little unemployment mixed in). They are damn good.
Oh agreed. I had the same relationship with a couple of the Lords players before they imploded. To an extent I just accept that I'll never have the time or desire to commit that much. I just spread myself too thinly game wise for that.
"I felt a great disturbance in the game, as if hundreds of voices suddenly raged out in frustration and then suddenly went silent. I think they must have quit the game..." Mason i feel you, i was so hoping CW would invigorate the game and make me want to come back to it, but alas was i wrong..
But wait..... the fun keeps coming.... This one was done to much "For LIAO" and silly shit like that. I think some of these kids had identity issues; one of them is named after a famous Kuritan who is fighting for LIAO but under the JADE FALCON banner. Why? Because clan mechs + 12 man + TS3 = win 99% of the time against PUGs. At least with these guys. Some of them may be total pricks (and they are the mediocre players from GS) but some of them are quiet and deadly. Can I fault them? Not at all. They are playing what it takes to win more times than lose. They are using the system that PGI gave them. Still, there were several people who were not amused about the results of the matches they have experienced today. I count myself among them. I have started ejecting from 12 man Try Hard matches where I'm with PUGs. Its a waste of time and I can make more by moving on to a second Drop Deck and trying for another PUG match.
That was a pretty bad match Mason and sorry for having to kill you man, I actually feel bad cause I respect your skills which is why I have tried repeatedly to get you to join us! Give in to the dark side Mason! Yes, I am one of the ones shown in the above however I keep my name sort of in limbo because I get enough hate as it is. We all spoke on comms and were laughing at how quickly your randoms were going down. Was this a challenge? Not in the least. Was this enjoyable? Not really. Some of the rage was kind of funny but was the game fun? Not a fucking chance. Hell you were the only one we even really mentioned by name as a target because of that killer Crab of yours. Why are we farming PUGs? Because PGI is too afraid to split the queues and send us a challenge. Every once in a while we will face 228 or SA or the MS guys and then it is poker face but when we see a bunch of PUGs (even with Mason among them) we don't even bat an eyelash as we ZOMGROFLSTOMP them. PGI promised all these wonderful things and put a bow on a steaming turd, then expected people to pay for it. I would be very surprised if CW is still around in a year. There will always be a Death Match MWO because Russ and Bryan gotta eat and people are buying silly shit left and right but they will never have the venture capital needed to make this game what it could be (have you seen their other games?). Has anyone ever seen that Keanu Reeves movie about football? They talk about quicksand. Well that is what PGI has gotten themselves in to. One bad decision leads to another, then another, then another and sooner or later you don't have enough players left (who spend money) to sustain your dream. That is how games die. I don't blame you one bit for ejecting out of matches like this Mason. Why bother sticking around to be insulted and demolished. You guys should start an operation called "Rejection Ejection" where you reject PGI's idea of Community Warfare and show it by ejection! Enough people start doing that and PGI will sit up and take notice because people will stop spending the few dimes they spend now.
Gee, thanks Jacob! LOL I can never join the Clans. That would be like admitting my skills aren't good enough and I need the edge that Clan Tech provides. I'm all about the Under Dog. I have seen that movie, it is called The Replacements (I know this movie because there is a hot brunette in it). Your analogy is quite apt actually in the business model of PGI. We are now at the stage where a game studio is building mechs based upon community funding. How opposite from another game about space ships where that developer builds the ships and then sells them. If they make a fortune or not doesn't matter. After reading your post, and doing some calculations based on some info that was passed to me by a friend, I believe you might be right which really sucks because Battletech has been in my blood since I was a kid. We will see! Maybe Russ and Bryan will sell the MW license to another company in a year or so when it becomes no longer fiscally viable. Maybe they will turn it around at the 11th hour and get someone with some sense driving this thing, who knows. One way or the other, the clock is winding down though.
Well this thread neatly demonstrates why I consider certain elements of the player base (note I don't say community) the lowest common denominator in the game. But then having been part of the competitive side for a while and seen some of the methods used I'm not entirely surprised.
I'm a little more reserved in my opinions than @Jacob Ling however I do agree that Community Warfare is about the least fun imaginable at least when facing 228th, SA, GS Farming Squads. However that being said I would like to thank Russ and Bryan for their attempt at Community Warfare. It has given me my life back as my MWO time is cut in half. Now I am out spending time with my significant other. After several matches of seeing a total of 5 kills between two teams and rounds that last less than 5 minutes I have moved on to other things. The weekends are usually when there are large farming groups out because people are off work or kids aren't in school and are playing MWO. That is now the time when I am doing other things. Unfortunately that is also when I would purchase my Premium Time or mechs that I wanted during the sales etc and now that isn't happening either. I may be a lone voice, on an Island, but there aren't as many voices now as there were back then either. Again, thank you! I have a life now and a little more money to spend in that life! Cheers!
Well Bob, I think many other people feel the same way as you as evidenced by this; I am on the servers right now trying to find a match and this is what I see.... All 78 people online looking for a match in CW. Of course, that could be only my little corner of space (Steiners and the worlds they touch) but even if you multiple that by the number of factions it is still a very small number of people.
150 people? 75???! Smoke Jaguar still sucks ass so bad that their guys quit jobs to nolife tryhard MWO?! Sounds like me 2 yrs ago. Man those guys are so behind the times... grasping straws or somethin. I aint been on forever and my best mate wouldn't even drop with me cuz he was busy "practicing" for like, apparently, 4-5 hours last night. A lot of these people need to get it through their head that the peak competitiveness is long gone, so they don't need to try and reach the top cuz it means jack shit now. It's like they're boxing, and only one in the fucking ring. Hello????? SEVENTY FIVE PEOPLE TOTAL? WHAT Btw this is favorite mechspecs thread I've read since I've returned. By far. Love it.
CW came out with a joint solo/group queue, but split that up into 50+ totally separate planet queues. So it has all the frustration of long wait times due to split queues, and all the frustration of incredibly one-sided matches! It's the worst of both worlds! Seriously, you have to be a masochist to play CW in its current state. Fixing it would be simple, just merge all the planet queues and split solo/group apart. Let the matchmaker assign a valid planet.
Na bro, joining a group of scrubs so you can bandwagon gloryseek with a bunch of nut-huggers is when someone is admitting their skills aren't good enough! xD
