    SDR-5D Tarantula

Following the Advice from epikt I think he is right about the jumpjets scout must need to fly alot of the times, this mech use ppc to disable esm and tag the target for the LRM squad to do thier job, speed is needed to aviod getting hit so more or less u just run and dodge like hell while ur tagging that ecm atlas and hope he wont be able to hit u while u tickle him with ur er ppc.

    SDR-5D Glass Tagger

Well this variant is the same build although it has way less armor now and is equipped with 5 jump jets, I think it would be very easy to destroy if it got hit but it could jump alot higher than the previous variant, but over all still use the same principle

    SDR-5D Spotter Tagger III

This is the variant that sacrifice speed although it still run as fast as an unmodified Jenner this still the slowest of all the variant ,though it still have the same principle though

With jump jets, having 1 or a couple will let you maneuver; 4-5 will let you poptart or get over terrain, and the spider getting 6 or all 8 will let it really fly.

This is one reason I don't like the ER PPC on a Spider, too much sacrifice in terms of jumping capability, armor, or speed in order to make it work.

I guess ur right about it , but speed is not quite sacrifice its still one of the fastest spider around and armor is still almost full, but the flight yup it is sacrifice, since this is not design to take down mech its design to tag down ecm equipe assault mechs not so much to scout but flight is really nice but this is just to help it manuever a not more and aviod uneven terrain , but you got a point there :)

Well it's not in YOUR build, you sacrificed jump jets. The more balanced approach is to use 4 JJ and sacrifice armor (or simply not use the CT or another arm hardpoint). One guy in my unit only has a small laser as backup. Some people use a 245 XL and sacrifice 2-4 jump jets and/or some armor. (And only a smeghead would sacrifice ECM). No matter how you slice it, it is a sacrifice to get this big of a weapon onto the chassis.

Your right about that but until they have some other lighter weapon that can disable ecm im really stuck with ppc. turning off ur ecm to jamming mode would really make u vulneratble to streaks and LRMs :)

I won't disagree with you on the PPC: it's the best weapon a spider can dream of, and the only loadout I enjoy playing.
But your build is very short on JJ. I got 4 on mine and it's already short; viable, but I wish I had more.

You definitely need more Jump Jets.

Well I place a total of 5 jump jets it seem very fragile now with its reduce armor

Hence my point that in order to fit an ER PPC, you have to sacrifice armor, speed, and/or jumping capability.

Yeah, I can't really justify running TAG on my Spider until LRMs get a buff. Just not enough people running them now, and those that do are either smart and only fire them direct with their own TAG, or are dumb and waste 90% of their ammo on terrain. I mostly ended up using it just to ping mechs under ECM umbrella so my teammates could see them on their HUD - and the same effect is accomplished if you can nail the ECM jammer with a PPC shot.

As I wrote when I posted my build (the one Myth just posted here)(actually I striped some armor for one more JJ) not using TAG is not a matter of weak LRMs or not, it's that the gameplay of a PPC Spider does not allows you to tag properly. If you were not that short on tonnage why not save a ton for a device you'll almost never use but can help, but in this situation... more DHS, more JJs, get rid of the useless.

Why do you need a PPC to counter ECM when you already have the best ECM counter in the game...ECM.

ECM is very short range...PPC's aren't. I often stay way outside the combat, up high etc...and continuously shoot the enemies ECM 'mechs in between the bigger threats.

This is true. But if you need something at long range, tag will do the job without sacrifice.

I've tried the PPC, and I've seen it used very well, but for me, personally, I don't think it's worth it on a light.

The PPC is imho the only weapon the spider shines with. Lasers? well, you can pack twice as much on a jenner without a big loss of mobility. But the arm-mount PPC, combined with JJ, it's pretty unique. That's the reason why I ended with a PPC.

The biggest drawback of this build is your ability to hit consistently. Some game your aim is just off, and you can tell the difference.
There's also the fact that hit-registration for the PPC looks kind of messy, combined with the ping we're playing making it hard to use (I'm European, playing with 120+ ping is already tricky, I can't imagine how it is for Russian/Asians/Australians and cie).

The advantage the Spider has over the Jenner is ECM and the more agile arms. You can the same benefit by using two medium pulse lasers on the arms. The Jenner definitely has more firepower, but the Spider 5D is the only mech with both ECM and jump jets.

Maybe my opinion regarding PPC spiders will change when ballistic HSR comes into play, but for now I think that the PPC makes it too difficult to properly do counter-light work, which is the most important role for a light mech. If you can repeatedly hit with it against another light moving full-tilt, kudos to you, but the lasers are far more effective for that role.

That said, if you do want to run a PPC build, I think Mythweaver's build is the least compromising.

Would you consider a PPC instead of an ERPPC? You have the speed and jump capability to maintain any range you like - and you get a 'Mech than runs much cooler and can sustain a greater degree of fire.

I prefer the ERPPC over the standard because as much as I like to keep at a distance to snipe; when your heavier teammates need to have enemy lights stripped off of them, you have to fight at close range.

When I did run an ER PPC on my Spider, I rarely noticed it overheat. Most often it was on Caustic (this was pre-tourmaline). Unless you're doing sustained fire for an extended period of time it should be fine on that front.
