Title says it all. I haven't seen many Gray Deaths since they've been released. I have see Pirate's Bane often, but in 80 matches so far, I've seen SHD-GD twice. Why do you think that is?
Fail quirks basically, and not really interesting builds on it. The locust has decent quirks, ECM, and costs much less. I didn't really like that SHD had very few/no quirks, they were left a bit back compared to other mediums, the chassis is wonderful, but they could at least get some minimal quirking. They can still do anything, but there's always another medium that does it better, if not for the 2x AC5 1x AC2 2H.
More like, GD does not have anything that makes it different from other ShadowHawks. The paintjob is nice, yes, but the model itself is not too different from the current ones. The hardpoints are also really similar to current variants.
2D2/2D is the best ones. 5M for those 2x AC builds. You are pretty much set. Grey death is basically the same as 2D/2D2, more energy, less missiles. I wish they would give it a higher engine and max JJ.
Interesting... lack of quirks huh? Funny how we went from "OMG quirks are awesome!" to "bah, if it doesn't have blow-me-down quirks for meta builds, its trash" I guess if you have a build on the 2D/2D2 and you wanted to mostly run it and grind c-bills this is a good choice.
well they got minimal quirks. And the reason for this that SHDs were / are the best IS mediums, after that no second place, then all the others. Now it's more like a matter of taste, but for me the quirks are more or less "flavor enhancers" and SHDs are still Tier 1. There's the 2K, then the 2H, and I can see the GD in that area too. Would you say that the wolverine with the 3 LPlas is better, just because it got stronger quirks? Lose that right arm and you're out of the game. Tested the quirked hunchies and griffins, and they're still troublesome. I will stick with my SHDs for comp
Don't forget the fact it is released in the midst of a lot of mech packs and even clan mechs (Timber Wolf, anyone?) released for CBills, I imagine the interest for new Hero mechs at this particular time is low.
In its defence its been a very solid mech for me but theres nothing overly exciting or sexy about it due to the lack of quirks. I'm running 2 LL, 2 ML, 2 SRM 4's and I get decent numbers of kills (1-4 in each match but will look at my averages if I remember later). Aiming is very good but as so much weaponry is arm based you end up shielding with your weapon arms.
So does the stormcrow I'm a weirdo, I'd prefer a SHD over a stromcrow any day. I just hate these hot potatoes and I find clan mechs gross and OP in general and I refuse to play them.
Quirks are awesome! But the Shadow Hawk's are fairly mediocre comparitively. What does the Grey Death have that the other Shadow Hawks don't have covered? I've got the Phoenix 2H Shadow Hawk which already has the bonus credit grinding, and I don't really see a reason for me to get the Grey Death one.
This is true for me as well. I have the 2H for grinding and I like my build on it. (XL300, 3xSSRM2, ML, LB10, 3JJs, & BAP -- I hunt lights with it). But there are many others who don't have the Phoenix pack so I would have thought the GD would have been a nice pickup for them. But, alas, I think people are ignoring it, mostly because the quirks are not awesome like the T4 and T5 mechs. Watching the quirks play out has been very interesting. There's even complaints that the Victors, all T1 mechs, don't have quirks and there's some tears over that. Some people, wow.
I really need to look up the definition of the different tiers, 'cause I have no idea. It just seems to me that some really good mechs have gotten 'meh' quirks. This doesn't make those mechs bad, but it does make others better choices.
