I always get a kick out of people calling me out in game due to the "celebrity" that mechspecs brings. I'm surprised by it, as I'm definitely not as prolific as some of the other big names on here; although I guess I am really good about making sure all of my builds show up in the forums. Anyways, does anybody have any interesting stories about people calling you out in game? For example, this morning I had somebody be pretty excited to drop with me and said that, "it was an honor to be in my lance." Heh. I thought that was pretty cool, and later when we were getting rolled he said that not even the best pilots can overcome lack of skill on a team. I'll not dash his dreams and let him know that I am not a piloting God. Good builds do make for better pilots, for sure, but I'd only consider myself above average. At least I was piloting one of my good mechs at the time which is often a rarity as true to our mechspecers mold I am often found in Commandos or terrible Victor builds. For science.
I've run the entire gauntlet of this experience. I have been singled out and hunted down in game (in my Super Chicken) I have been accused of using hacks because I am on here (in my Super Chicken) I have been challenged to single combat (in my old Jenner) I have been complimented; for the site and for the skill I used to have I have been insulted; for the site and again for the skill I used to have (and now no longer have lol) It all depends on who is out there. Every time someone throws their butthurt at me though I think of this...
Since I only post my builds here, the only people that greet me are fairly nice. They also know this game runs the gauntlet between Stomps, Close calls, and complete Rolls; and know it's that way for both teams.
Hey, you are the famous director of the only MWO MW2 Intro Remake. Who doesn't know you? ow btw - i am pretty often called out and then get hunted down by the enemy aggressively. That's why i fear LRM WE Challenges.
I get a few people say "Hey Falconium!" in game, who I wonder at because I don't recognize them, but then they point out that they know me from Mechspecs. It's always nice to see that the site and its members are well known, and especially that there is such a great general opinion of us out there in the MWO community.
Tee Hee, earlier today I had someone ask about ShipSpecs in game. Nice bloke, Aiden I think his name was? He said he's an active lurker here and that he can't wait for ShipSpecs to get up and running. Once I finish off the revamp here I will focus on getting that site licensed and set up over there. One problem with that is Smurfy doesn't really seem to be actively developing for Star Citizen yet.
Most often I get: o/ Sol from people who I don't know / remember. Occasionally people saying they like my builds on MechSpecs. Most recently: "your Locust video was painful" LOL
I always look for mechspeccers...it's the sign that I'm about to have a shit round I rarely have anyone recognize me from here, but I do get a lot of people yelling "Frog blast the vent core!" This makes me happy.
The mechspecs pilots are usually pretty good and not boating LRMs so I know I'm in for a good fight. Though I tend to be in weird experimental mechs a lot.. I'm an addict. I MIGHT sort of hunt Solahma because he's usually the biggest threat and my Klingon blood boils for a challenge.
One does not wait for Solahma to strike. Never let your prey control the hunt. I've actually only ever seen Solahma once. I seem to remember it didn't end well for me
Fame as in who I first greeted online from MechSpecs was Skribs I believe. I've been asked if I'm "the Lan from MechSpecs" a cpl of times, complimented a few times but it doesn't happen that much. While nice, it's not my purpose to be known. I've yet to be hunted (well, there was this one time when BB Wolfe and crew headhunted me as we randomly faced off one night in 6-7 consecutive games vs another) or cursed to my knowledge. I keep running into Aylek & Remarius primarily but I've bumped into pretty much all of the people here at one time or other. Blagg increasingly so the last months. I don't solo queue much so anyone primarily there I will likely miss.
First mechspeccer I ever recognised was Blagg and I told him I was trying one of his setups and it was working well.... not realising he had 5 million of them. As Lan said - group queue I usually most see Lan and Aylek but that's understandable as they're 0/+1 hrs depending on if we have Daylight Saving. PyckenZot obviously as he's in unit. Solo queue I bump into Lt Satisfactory reasonably frequently.
@Lan I have to ask, just to clarify: is "Lan Banshee" your alt account? Or is that just a coincidence in the name?
I always check for names I know from mechspecs and hope they are on my team. Basically because it lowers the chance of beeing grouped with a douchebag. When dead, I try to specate them or watch them kill my teammates to soak up the skill During the last 2 weeks I saw Lan (and yes, I asked if you were the one from mechspecs), Remarius and Falconium. Because of different time zones (?) it doesn't happen that often... Unfortunatly. P.S. Best game was about a year ago on HPG where I headshoted Aylek with my first shot of the game in his ecm spider or raven while he tried to sneak around on the big wall. Felt a bit guilty because I knew it was him from a game before and I just wanted to tickle him a bit with my UACs
Haven't got a alt account in MWO, been accused of not being the "true Lan" a cpl of times though. That's just a coincidence. Yeah, that was the last time.
Not due to mechspecs - but I have been given some lovely messages and e-mails from some lovely people.
