That was the best part of the game, planning your initial move on the lateral points. It meant some scouting first: how many enemies? If a lance or more, then regroup and everybody stomp them! If no one, only fast mechs cap and the others push the center. If the center is already taken, don't push in but strike the outside point and force them out.

It was pointless indeed, but forced the team to move and allowed for some pressure to be put on a team being too campy.

I do like how fast the caps flip in games. It makes a scout mech somewhat dangerous to have behind your lines, and forces your own lights to choose between screening and flipping bases themselves. Your group has to have good discipline to focus on one objective at a time, or your team scatters and everyone dies.

    @Remarius
....which seems to be fair in a manner - very often you stand in the frontline with your preffered brawler tearing apart an enemy mech and then a sniper (who doesnt have to risk his precious components) from afar takes your kill...so right now your getting rewarded for doing most damage aswell.
It seems to me that the new system tries to reflect somehow the risks you have taken in the match...

Except like yesterday when I calmly stood down a charging horde and headshot an atlas with dual gauss, dual lpl and 4 erml through its head area.....

That's a clean kill and should be massively rewarded. Instead the system rewards the person who finds an afk or dc mech and destroys its arms, legs, torsoes etc. Welcome to a world where being a uac boat is rewarded for inaccuracy. ;)

    this.
also, brawler lights vs ECM spotters... 400dmg in a COM is not bad, but 800dmg in a DWF is not that hard either. Who gets more money?

Giant robots can not get the points fast enough to help cap. Lights get all the captures now.

Well you don't that massive reward fot that single headshot anymore, but several others which are cummulative (but hard to tell which one is linked together after the match).
    Possible rewards for that headshot:
    Kill Most Damage:
    • Compared to all other players, deal the most damage to a target.
    • The target dies.
    Killing Blow:
    • Deal the killing shot to a target.
    Solo Kill:
    • Achieve both "Kill Most Damage" and "Killing Blow" for the same target.
    Brawler:
    • Get a "Solo Kill" in between 0 and 450 meters distance to the target.
    • Be in a medium or heavy 'Mech.
    Hit and Run:
    • A hit and run “Score” is generated based off an engagement.
    • Every point of damage dealt counts for 1 point of score.
    • Every point of damage taken counts for -2 points of score.
    • If score is greater than 10, you are awarded with a hit and run award.
    • If the total damage taken during the engagement is greater than 15 the score is zeroed and no award is given.
    + destroyed components

So maybe your reward was as high as before or even higher - but you just didnt recognize it because it's not a single number anymore....

The first 3 if they stack. I was in a Direwolf and facing down their entire centre push aka 5 mechs holding one of the corridors on the new map while my side fought the other 6 in a parallel area (1 was dc at that time). They were trying to loop around to hit our side/rear. I made 2 clean kills and held off the others till my team could break through their side and in turn loop around to hit their flank. My job was to stop them dead and I did. Ultimately we crushed them as we rolled through 11 vs 6 then 9+1 vs 5. All credit to my solo queue team it was a good team performance. Several people on both sides commented on my bit so in all honesty I was perfectly happy with my performance. My xp and c-bills were shit..... wish I'd screenshotted it but I just sat there going... huh?!?!?! Like a bit of a idiot really I know but hadn't expected that. ;)

Other matches I've had great c-bills and xp to balance that match but in all honesty I can't really figure out the pattern beyond my splurge dakka are massively out c-billing my sniper gauss builds.

flank for all the bonuses, for the rest key seems to be :

-solo kill, deal most damage and kill
-tag, there are a lot of tag bonuses for damaging while enemy is tagged, and klling when you tag is good points

I have premium on(got 1 day, and was enough to speed tweak 2 and elite one) but even in a loss, with a normal performance :

Had a match like that earlier today in my BH-Fatlas. Did about 700 damage and stayed with my lance the whole time. 4 kills 9 assists. My team won but it was close. Got a stupid amount of XP/CB because most of my kills and damage happened when I walked up behind an enemy lance. Seems if you all stick together and even just help with kills you get a lot more then if you run off and solo kill the entire enemy team.

They posted a hotfix thing (originally for today, but they pushed it to tomorrow) that said it is tweaking the rewards a bit. Hopefully it makes it a bit less brutal for new players, and gives some actual semblance of a reward for a loss ;)

Edit: In looking at the changes, a lot of the cbills rewards were flat out doubled (or nearly so), so I think they're off to a good start.

Yes, the confirmed changes to the rewards are all increases. More xp, more CBills.

With the structure change and these increases, I'm hoping to see some changed player behavior as well, but have yet to have the chance to jump into game to find out.

As with any change, a lot of it is falling on specific players...and their playstyle. I did my first few matches of this patch on my Ember, since I couldn't afford the SCR omnipod I needed, and noticed I was getting much higher rewards (along the lines of about 250k+ per game and 2-3k+ exp, not counting first win bonus). When I got my SCR-D outfit and ready, I noticed the rewards significantly dropped, since it was more likely to attract direct attention due to its bigger profile, so I got fewer flanking/hit and run/scouting bonuses. To experiment, I hopped into my NARC/TAG Raven, and had rounds that did even better than the Ember did, with one breaking 300k CB and 4k exp (plus a first win bonus on top). As such, a lot of the rewards are actually more geared towards lighter scout mechs than heavier ones. My guess as to why that is is simple: the best damage bonuses come from doing top damage vs. an enemy, getting kills, and doing so at close range (for the Brawler reward). Top damage can be a tough one with all the high output clan mechs, and getting top damage, solo kill, and brawler consistently takes a bit of luck (hoping you don't get focused). Meanwhile, for a light mech with ECM, scouting, TAG, flanking, and hit and run bonuses are incredible easy to manage.

I would like to see some additional teamplay rewards (say, for blocking a NARC with an ECM, or using ECM to prevent an enemy from locking on with LRM/SSRMs to a teammate, among others), but it would be nice to see some additional rewards for heavier damage mechs too. I could see rewards for weapon destruction, and a bigger one for stripping a mech completely of all weapons (ie, the You Found a Nova Reward). A headshot-specific reward could be nice for those random luck shots/arties as well. Don't know what else would be good to add there, but it's worth some thought.

    ****
    - Capture Pulse: 25 CB to 100 CB
    - Lance Formation: 60 CB to 120 CB
    - Protected Medium: 65 CB to 100 CB
    - Protected Light: 65 CB to 100 CB
    - Protect Proximity: 55 CB to 90 CB
    ****

If you noticed these, the payout of these are actually quite minimal.
The loss of the good XP/CB from kill assist kinda suck though.

One thing I notice is that:
    1) people cramp together packed to get these bonus, which causes lots of obstructions. You get pushed out of your position sometimes when you are in a light/medium.
    2) If you get locked by enemy missiles, run close to friendly assault and you get xp/cbills for being hit.
    3) You get more xp/cbills for dragging on the combat rather than finishing it hard and fast.
    4) Suicidal attack from enemy back actually pays off as you get lots of flank/spot/whatever from the rackless action, plus the high chance of killing one enemy before your death. Such selfish behaviour actually pays off better than it is used to be.
    5) Killstealing actually pays off now. (funny is that I seem to get more kills after tha change without deliberately trying to killsteal. Then again I am playing semi-seriously trying to test the system)
    6) Hanging around doing nothing by staying with the group and you get more reward than before for some reason. weird.

Fixed that for you. So what we now have is the selfish being selfish TOGETHER! *action pose*

So...only arguably an improvement in that regard. Oh well, at least I'll be rewarded for how I usually help the team in my lights instead of getting shafted for it.

There's several ways to play a light. Use ECM and snipe a bit from behind, cause mayhem and distraction --> doesn't really pay off.
SRM - spalshing in a light doesn't pay off because you don't get many kills that way
what DOES pay off is the ember or anansi where you can crit wounded enemies to death.

The question was: Does the new system change behavior?

I did not change mine and I get punished by losing at least 1/3rd of my income. at least.
If I change my behavior, it will be more selfish. I used to get as many assists as I could and then get on with the stuff that helped my team because I knew that i'm safe financially.

This was bloody aggravating last night kept having missile locked lights running to my dwf like retards and taking missiles meant for them.

Totally dumb that people are being rewarded for deliberate idiocy like that. First time I thought it was a error and politely joked about it... then raged when the person laughed and admitted it was deliberate.

I want a bonus for making enemy LRMs slam into one of their own people instead of me ;) Although it would be fun to have a special reward for causing them to hit anyone on my friends list too ;) Trollin' 24/7!

Well, you actually get protect proximity for people doing that also.

Fact is, people are always selfish. The idea is to set up a system where one can be selfish and still help the overall action of the team.
People will always act towards their best interest, esp pugs where most other players are just random fuckers you don't care about.
This change does show that award is a effective way of attracting player behavior.
