I do not have the actual record sheet to the Highlander IIC. This is an attempt to reproduce this clan mech using innersphere technology, and what I could find about the actual mech on the internet. According to my research due to weight restrictions this version loses one ton of gauss ammo, one ton of lrm ammo, artemis IV linked LRM 20 and six tons of armor vs the actual clan version.
Hi, welcome to mechspecs, nice to see posts from new active members. And nice Attempt to reproduce the IIC I review it for the purpose of min-maxing: I looked into the build at smurfy and my first question: why Armor only @340 on the 90ton Highlander? It needs so much more Armor to be a worthy Assault Mech. With 340 people will destroy you within seconds like you are a Light/Med Mech. Btw always go Endo-Steel before Ferro-Fibrous - you get more free Tonnage with ES. FF only if you still have enough free critslots (most times in Lights). Imo you have a versatile Weaponsystem from the IIC and lots of JJs, but you should not forget, that the Gauss is very fragile compared to other Weapons and thus needs max.Armor for the location of the Gauss Rifle. 20 Gauss Bullets are shot away very fast, consider to load in another third ton. Idk if it's worth to load 3 JJs (=6tons) on the Highlander. I usually only load 1 - max.2 due to the high tonnage weight of the JJs on the Highlander. Since you don`t have a heavy Poptard-Build, you should consider to trade some JJs for more viable things, like Armor, Speed, Ammo or Artemis etc. And if you use alot JJs in Brawls, you should max out the Legs-Armor! Or you will be easily destroyed by losing both Legs early. I modified the build a little and maybe you like it: Have fun with mechspecs and welcome again!
The idea behind the build is to try and replicate the Highlander IIC used by the clans, and see how closely it can be replicated with inner sphere technology. This normally means that not everything will fit, or that its going to work the best. In any case I did a quick pass to try and at least solve the armor issue which has been done. This is mostly done by taking the LRM 20 and replacing it with a LRM 10 this gives you five and half tons, which gives you the Highlanders IIC armor of 14.5 tons. This also works better since, four tons of lrm ammo in the actual Highlander IIC are just enough to give the LRM 20 the same number of volleys as an LRM 5 with one ton of ammo. In a sense the LRM 10 now has an extra ton of ammo, though this can be reduced by a ton which you could then use to get the Highlander IIC three tons of ammo for the gauss rifle. Alternatively this version of the build reduces the armor to 11.5 tons, but adds artemis to both the LRM 10 and SRM 6 launchers.
My take on the IIC. By keeping the short range missiles as Streaks, adding Artemis to the LRM20 didn't eat up too much extra tonnage. IMHO, the only thing stopping canon Highlander builds being viable online is the low engine rating.
