Large laser and Gauss for Medium/Long range Mlas x2 and SRM's for close range. Slightly shaved armor on arms and legs, and even if you lose the gauss you have a case to absorb the explosion, your other side will still leave you quite effective, SRM 6 in the mid lets you zombie a bit if worse comes to worse. In my opinion this is the best all around Orion variant, with the VA being the superior close range/brawler and the K being the best mid range engager. And here's the AC/20 Variant. It gains a BAP or alternatively an AMS, gains many more heatsinks to help with the higher load, and downgrades the large las to a med las to keep everything cooler and streamlined:
I run something similar in the -K, and i see ur point in the ERLLas, but i prefer to run it with Pulse lasers, to exploit the armour the gauss takes out and create internal crÃticals, should be even better with SRMs. Also i downgraded the SRM6 to 4, cause, i do think that SRM6 without ArtemisIV are just too spreaded out at max range. They are OK for a light, cause they can come way closer to the target b4 firing, but in heavies, that u often fire them in the 150-250 range, i feel like wasting missiles.
Yeah they do spread a lot in larger mechs, but there's 2 reasons I did it for this orion build. -Fills that final critical slot -Since it's center torso, the srm 6 spread for WHATEVER reason seems to be tighter (or maybe easier to aim?) than side torso mounts. I keep the lasers standard variants just for heat issues. with the new module changes the standard LLas hits out to 1000m (though i'd say 900m when dealing actual damage). I try not to close the distance when im using my gauss setup though, preferring to let the enemy come to me thinking I'm an easy sniper kill, then getting a nasty surprise.
