That map has some absolute death trap areas where the other side can just rain down hell on you while keeping their spotters hidden on the flanks.
Only had the map once since it being released. I'll let you know once I actually saw more of it than 2 Daishis laughing straight at me ;-)
I still haven't managed to get on the map after 2 DAYS of trying heh. I just want to take my SRM30 Summoner there and go nuts...
Hit it again last night with my six shooter Vulture (6x cSRM4), we won but I really think jumpjetting SRM brawlers with a bit of lasers will rule this map. Griffins for example.
Pft, I went head to head with a Dire last night in my Six Shooter (6x cSRM4) Vulture. He killed me but I recked his armor and most weapons (plus half a Nova that was wounded) so the rest of the lance had a cpl of easy preys. Good trade though I only did 2-300 damage. The Dire may be King of the fire lanes but against fast opponents it still is possible to get them, luckily. I honestly think the damage output is too high, both on the Dire and in general in the game. I would like a bit more trading blows, a minute more combat to whittle armor...one shot, two shot kills is not MechWarrior to me, IMHO.
And the key there is the solo on the new map.... what is the cardinal sin of a direwolf? PS: Locust vs Direwolf = Locust.
I got it several times yesterday, but i really miss the option to select a specific map before launching. My impression of this new map: It feels sooo small compared to the other ones. For Arcade Brawling Action it's really fun and the Matches often end within 5 Minutes unless you play Conquest. Is it only me or does anyone else got the UNREAL Nostalgia Feeling with this map (Lighting & Colors)? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rk3yZRq9A4g
Probably one of the very best mechs to have in this map: Actually, any mech with ECM and multirange capable is a primary target here.
I've had great luck on this map. I was playing yesterday and I had been in my TBR-C laserboat, but switched to my streakboat SCR at the last second before launch and got this map. My lance ran into an enemy lance and we proceeded to wreck them while they inexplicably shot everywhere but at me. I netted a kill off the first engagement and we drove the rest off. We regrouped with the rest of the team and I got in some great firing angles and picked off a couple more. Finally, it wound up being mop up duty at their base where I killed a Warhawk shooting the guy next to me, and then gave a point blank range alpha to a Cicada who, for some reason, had no idea at all I was behind him. Seems like a great map for utilizing positioning.
I've played it a few times, in PUG, and there's a lot of chaos that's only partly due to people not knowing the map. There's simply too much junk to fly over or go around for a team to know where the enemy is at all times. It's different and I like that. There's great potential for ambushes and for any team that can take advantage of chaos.
It's a nightmare if your mech is slow and has no jumpjets. You're restricted in your movement, mechs with JJs will always have the higher ground, and sooner or later you'll find a direwolf in front that will chew you to bits with an alphastrike. Have had extremely fun games in it with Summoners, Kitfoxes, Griffins...well mostly anything that is relatively quick and has jumpjets shines in it...
IMO best map released till now. You can both brawl and snipe on this map without a problem. JJ mechs get a lot of mobility advantage - but isn't it supposed to be like that? Alot of flanking possibilities. On top of that it's the first map that doesn't look as bland as the others. More contrast, more shiny things, more sense of scale. Good job PGI. Well, actually, 1-2 JJ mechs get barely any mobility advantage on this map. 4+ can go through the higher platforms quite easily. Which is great, since it forces you to invest in mobility at the cost of armaments, utility or armor.
I've played it and it is okay. I'm still getting used to what ramps lead where. I suppose I need to spend more time on the training grounds with it in order to get familiar.
That's strange - any idea what triggers it? I get occasional problems when loads of people lrm and I'm turning quickly towards them - drawing the trails caused the problem I always presumed. Not had any problems on that map yet.
As i understand it, based on posts on MWO's feedback forum, the game has some problems with particles after some patches. For some people. I've never before had any problem with particles. It might be that i got this particle bug, other maps seemed to have weak performance too, i assumed that would be due to other things but particle bug would explain this but it is hard to be sure. I guess i'll try the repair tool and if that won't work, perhaps the next patch does something (the map might simply be unoptimized still of course). But i don't see a bright future. Really unfortunate, there ain't any other interesting multiplayer game.
1) 1 JJ goes a long way. 2) not as dark as one might think. 3) CQB weapons. 4) any consumable explosions = ouch
