Lately I've been playing with the Dire Wolf and used 4 LBx10s on one build and 2 LBx20s on another build. Despite them both essentially being LBx40, I swear the 4 LBx10s feels stronger than the 2 20's. Is there something I don't know or why it feels this way?
Welcome to MechSpecs. The biggest difference is that the cooldown rate of an LBX10 is 2.5 seconds while the LBX20 has a cooldown of 4.0 seconds. This makes 2xLBX10 fire 1.6 times faster than a single LBX20. Hence, 2xLBX10 achieves a maximum DPS of 8.00 while 1xLBX20 achieves only 5.00. The tradeoff is that two LBX10's weigh 2x10=20 tons while a single LBX20 weights only 12 tons. You could be doing something else with the 8 ton difference, depending on the mech and loadout. In your case, if you had the extra 16 tons from using 4xLBX10 instead of 2xLBX20, you could have been loading other weapons. So, its not really a fair comparison between the two Reference: http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/equipment
e92 beat me to it! Oh well . . . Yes, the notable difference between those two builds is the cool-down (recharge) of the weapons. With the 2xLB20 build, you can only fire every 4 seconds; with the 4xLB10 build, you can fire every 2.5 seconds. That means, with the LB10s, you're getting almost TWICE as much damage over time, even though the initial alpha is the same. The LB10s also have more range, and less heat; so overall, that setup is much more powerful. However, the downside, (as I'm sure you noticed when building the 'Mechs), is that the 4xLB10s weigh alot more than the 2xLB20s. 4xLB10s (@10 tons a piece) = 40 tons 2xLB20s (@12 tons a piece) = 24 tons Quite a big difference. Here are some images of the info on the two weapons, so you can see the comparison for yourself.
I guess that explains why I have more dmg by the end of the match with the 4 LBx10s. I've noticed the weight difference as well, been able to equip more weapons onto the dual LBx20s. Thanks for explaining that!
Actually, i have seen a VERY effectively build some times now around: 2xLB20, 1xLB10, 1xcSRM6. Its a 1alpha=1piece-of-enemy-mech-down build. I even enjoyed a double kill to scouts with it. VERY powerfull build. Posted my guess of how is it HERE.
More damage with the 10 probably because of the range also. Your effective range much greater so you do more damage. Either mech is deadly in dark alley.
Why nobody want a 62 points alpha in the face every 4 seconds? Also notice that it has 56% heat efficiency.......
A similar thing wrecked my 2xGauss 4xCERML 2xCLPL DWF build last time i dropped. Under the hail of shotgun pellets i couldn't even aim my weapons properly, guy got almost a completely clean kill QQ
