http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCWyIxGLhR4&feature=youtu.be As per the thread name, this is my first attempt at recording something resembling a live commentary. I must've picked a terrible time to do it, too, judging from the runny nose! My apologies in advance for that, the bare minimum graphical settings, and the microphone-induced white noise. Having played somewhere in the region of 30 matches of MWO so far, I don't expect anyone will get anything informative or educational out of it. The build used is the first and only I've put together so far, a simple RVN-3L 2xERLL affair. If you did slog through all 31 minutes of it, though, any and all feedback is welcome! What did you think of the audio balance (in-game sound versus commentary)? The overall volume seemed low to me, but I didn't dare push the already low audio quality any further. Did you like the render quality? It's not true 1440p, of course (I record in native 1080p scaled down by 25% for performance reasons). Did you notice any sort of pixellation? I've taken a few measures to avoid this, but you can never be certain with YouTube. What is your opinion on the commentary itself? I've pretty much got the full package of bad commentator habits (smacking lips, slurring words together, breathing into the microphone etc.); anything you can point out for me to work on is a huge help. All of this, and any advice or observations regarding the gameplay or anything else you care to point out, I would love to hear! Even this relatively simple barely edited video of mine has been a bit of a learning experience; hey, I figured out how Vegas text animations work, and, um, how not to accidentally shoot friendly UAVs out of the sky.
Fixed video for you, you have to remove the "s" from the standard "https://" so it's only "http://" Good work and a nice video, I hope to see more from you in the future. One suggestion, if you are not already you should invest in advanced zoom for that sniper build. It helps you get the most of your damage / heat. good luck!
Thanks for the help! And for sitting through all of that. I definitely hope to make more, as well, though any future videos probably won't be as long. I don't like the idea of only showing one match per video, but 31 minutes translated to 9 hours of rendering and about as much uploading. As for the Advanced Zoom Module, it's definitely on my list, along with Seismic and Radar Deprivation. The question is whether I'm going to save up for modules now, or try and get some more 'Mechs first.
I would recommend getting at least a couple more mechs first. It will slow you down initially trying to get enough for the mechs and equipping them, it will let you benefit from multiple 1st win of the day bonuses. That will get you more c-bills and more exp/gxp. If you pick two more variants of the raven that you already have you can also get the elite skills opened up which make a large difference in performance.
Oh my god! About the video, don't try to make it ultra mega high definition. Youtube will screw it up anyway, there won't be a major difference between a high quality video and an ok quality video once uploaded and processed by YT. Also, don't bother with 1440p if you record in 1080p, most viewers don't have larger definition. The video looked good to me, but I'm the kind of person not giving a shit as long as it's not a pixel fest so I'm maybe not the best judge. Few thoughts about your gameplay: - "R" is your best friend! The weird thing is you look very concerned about taking out weak components, though you often totally forget to acquire the lock on your target. - about the friendly UAV... well, it was hilarious! As you can see on the video, it has a blue marker on it, just like on your teammates, you can't confuse it for an enemy: - enemy UAVs... you just don't see them. On your third game you were not narced (if you were you're ECM would have been countered, but it wasn't) you had an UAV on you. On this situation you must get out of UAV range and take it down. (that being said, good job covering your team the whole game) - You dealt more damage to the rock than to the kitfox. Easy way to check it you actually hit: the reticule turns red when you deal damage (very useful when you're using LRMs, or when hitting elements which hitbox is larger than their model ).
Hey, big thanks to both of you for taking the time! That's a very good point! I'll consider it when I'm able to play again.
I actually spent a good few minutes waffling over this in that same recording session; I'd love the elites and double basics for my 3L, but the other two RVN variants don't seem all that appettizing. Not sure when I'm going to get around to that.
Oh my god!
Good gods, I didn't even notice that!
The 'fake' 1440p render doesn't actually amount to much for my rendering, it's there to mess with YouTube's processing by forcing higher bitrate allowance... or at least that's the theory, as far as I know. I'm still a trained monkey when it comes to the rendering process. The actual definition that Dxtory was recording in was 720p.
This drives me nuts as well, even when playing. I get so distracted looking at which part is glowing or smoking (or telling myself to not shoot the arms) that I don't even remember to press Num5 most of the time. Looking forward to committing that to muscle memory!
- about the friendly UAV... well, it was hilarious! I recall thinking that the marker somehow belonged to one of my allies in the city.
- enemy UAVs... you just don't see them. I didn't even consider the possibility while I was editing, and I'm usually really paranoid about being spotted by things I don't see, in any game.
That's why it took me so damnably long to kill that, then! I kept looking for the damage glow, as usual, and it made me think that I was doing full damage throughout. I'll try to keep the crosshair in mind in the future. Again, thank you for your feedback. There's no direction to this whole learning process unless I get some opinions along the way!
