This is a pretty standard build, or used to be. I don't see it much anymore. I like it as it can threaten at all ranges, but does the most damage up close. 1 Gauss with 3 tons of ammo (Group 2) 2 Medium Lasers, 1 in each arm (Group 1) 2 Medium Lasers in the Center Torso (Group 4) 2 SRM 6 packs with 3 tons of ammo (Group 3) It can run a little warm when you start letting go with all 4 medium lasers and the 2 SRM packs, but for the most part it is manageable. Edited for format... Edit for newest patch
What sort of speed are you getting out of this thing? With all that firepower I'm guessing you don't have a very big engine?
Sorry I thought I put it in there. It runs a standard 300 engine, so like 48ish or so. Plenty fast enough.
Ahhh Bilbo! I've heard so much about you! I like the AC/20, but I keep it in my D-DC, which is the standard 2 Medium Laser, 3 SRM6 six pack, 1 AC/20 variety. I wanted this one to be more heat neutral and able to reach out and touch things at a longer range. I'm also found the gauss rifle to be better for threading the needle between mechs do to its smaller shell and quicker travel speed. Even with FF armor, Endo Steel, and DHS, of which I use none of on this, I've found this to be my most effective, profitable, and generally well rounded Atlas. Finally with speed tweak this puppy moves like 52 KPH now. Its almost, fleet!!!
Upgrade to Endo Steel, DHS, and a 350 STD, and you can push it up to 61kph. It can get expensive to repair though. and don't forget the CASE for the gauss torso whether you store ammo there or not.
Bilbo. Can't add Endo or FF armor, not enough crit spots open as the build stands. As for DHS I don't think they double the initial 10 HS in the engine, which makes it not worth while to use. Even doubling the 'extra' HS you put in the center torso engine slot you'd have to add more than there are open crits spots in groups of three to make it worth while. Basically, you run into not enough crit spots. As for the Case on the Gauss I've never had its explosion overly damage my Atlas. I've had it critted out, and still had the torso, lost the whole torse via damage, and not lost my center. The damage seems to be minimal. I have another Atlas I'm working on where I'm trying to make use of the DHS in their current implementation. Once I get it hammered out I'll post it up.
Pull all your heatsinks out, then upgrade to DHS and Endosteel. Pull the motor and put in the brand new 350 STD motor. Put the 4 free DHS back in the CT. You end up with effectively 5 extra heatsinks while using 11 fewer crit slots. The space actually makes itself. I run 1 ton less of Gauss ammo though, and I can't remember off hand if I had any crit slots left.
Wow, thanks! That worked like a charm! I got 17 DHS in it now, which even with the weirdness going on still should work out to be like 24 normal HS or by TT standards 34 HS. Very nice, and MUCH faster! I'll update it.
I've been running a similar build to this, I call it the "Fishy Tee". I just traded my AC20 for a gauss, and I'm not entirely happy with it though. It just seems like it's not the same knockout blow that the AC20 was. We'll see after a few more battles, though, I've only played a handful of drops with the gauss rifle.
I'm also playing this build, although with 2 medium pulse lasers, and an additional ton of SRM ammo. It gives a heat efficiency of 1.69. It does wonders!
Thanks for this build! I tried this out last night with Artemis upgrade and really loving it! Also using pulse lasers in the arms and mediums in the chest... I find if I'm starting to cook a bit too much i just ease off the arm pulses and rely on the chest mediums. Usually by then it's an all out brawl and the targets are closer. I dropped some armour on my legs to fit in another tonne of gauss ammo... might consider AMS I'm getting 61 kph as well with the 350std engine, but that's also to due with the tier 2 mech XP upgrade.
I love this build a great brawler with a ranged option and the Gauss Rifle certainly works better for me than the AC/20 which I was originally using. It gets a full 5 stars from me.
