Trying for a nice Heavy Alpha here, feed back appreciated. Tweaked the fit to get more out of it. And one more change, added AMS to the mix.
Just some of my results. I may not always survive a match, but I do give them hell. I like it - it's like what I'm running, but with gauss instead of ACs. I would drop some LRM ammo for another heatsink - you are actually runner hotter than me, despite having the gauss. Now some questions... Do you notice the difference in twist between the prime RT and the AMS containing one? Does the alpha feel to be enough? I ask because with the UAC10s I am really liking the ability to add on another 20 damage a second later. It has let me finish off a mech, or turn and put fire on a second target a few times. Does the AMS help? The CT is such a damage magnet that I feel like I need one, but am hesitant to lose a heat sink to something that is only taking out a few missiles at a time.
Yeah this build runs a little on the hot side and it was part of the learning curve with this mech and the only time I really need to watch it is when I go toe toe with another mech at close ranges. But anyhow to your other questions. Yes I do notice a difference in the twist using the AMS, but to be honest right now I'm willing to take that hit because the AMS adds more to my survivability. Especially as it seems right now a lot of people are spamming LRMs. There is another option to this though, but it might take a little bit to get. The Radar Deprivation module. If I had that I'd consider dropping the AMS and going back to the prime torso and getting the heat sink. But right now The AMS to me is pretty vital. It helps stop some of the first LRMs that would hit while I move to cover. I find with the Direwolf I always keep cover near by just because of the sheer mass and speed of this mech. Using the cover to absorb some of the lrms is also important. As for the rest of the set up I find the damage great you open with the lasers then have the gauss fire right after wards. I've killed a lot of light mechs in one burst, I've blown off tons of mech parts as well with this. IS Mechs are also very easy to kill if they are using the XL Engines. Taking off a side torso is pretty easy for this setup. If you ever get the drop on a person you can chew right through the back armor and score and easy kill most of the time. The double gauss alone tend to kill light mechs on the run, of course the skill comes in hitting them. One thing I'm loving though is that while the twist on this mech is pretty harsh the fact it can damn near shoot it's own feet and aim well above it's head is great. I've blown legs off tons of mechs trying to jump over me to get behind me only to be in a bad position when they land. But module choices: Advanced Zoom, Radar Deprivation, Seismic Sensor, ADV. Sensor Range, Target Decay. (I should have mentioned that none of my damage scores have used an airstrike or artillery strike, I'm not one for spending more money on a pub match) I already have the Zoom and it is great for getting those long range shots on target. Radar Deprivation is one I'm itching to get and will likely be the second one I use for reasons mentioned earlier. But as for the third (you need the master unlock for) I'm torn on the others. I think Seismic will win for me in the end it think, but the other two are very tempting to improve the LRMs. Either way I hope this helps, and happy hunting!
