A couple of patches ago the (one two, can't remember) the 4J lost it's "hunch" when you wouldn't equip missile weapons. yay! A hunchless hunchback. This one carries the revamped Large Pulse Laser and a XL275. Weapon groups are something like this: 1: left hand LPls 2: right hand LPls 3: 4x MLas and a screeny to show "The Cured"
What I run. Only difference is allocation. Mediums have a longer burn time, so it's a lot easier to keep those on track with the arms, the less maneuverable torso (only just because the torsotwist is pretty sick on this mech), does better with short burntime large pulse lasers, and you also lose them less quickly. I equip 1 less ML and swap things around, adding one DHS as well: And recently I've started running a standard engine variant (though the XL is perfectly fine without a hunch). I designed it in the game itself so I can't check what I had exactly (armor seems low in this variant).
(this is a normal win match nothing special) It's a good build and I did this using this build similar to yours. Still XL is a no no since in that match both of my torsos got blown off quite easily after being weakened by an atlas.
Still a awesome build and this image is proof and I found out some problems with this build.

People target your CT (so maybe you do need a xl or you need to swing your torso left and right like a mad man.)
OH GOD IT HEATS  you really need some heat discipline using those medium lasers if your heat is too high and chain firing your Large pulse laser.
hmmm.. let me see. 2x LPLas is imo too weight-wasting in a 50tonner. The Hunch has 3 Energy Slots, so how about replacing the second LPLas by two MLas with almost the same Firepower/Recycle Time/Range/Heatproductin etc.. ? You save 5 Tons for the biggest STD Engine, so even can go Zombie if the Hunch gets blasted off (aaand no Heat Penalty btw!): or maybe this for keeping a bit Firepower if the Hunch is Kaboff:
There is no "Hunch", that's the point and the reason to try XL. Note that the LPlas has a range of 700 meter and significantly bigger damage output than medium lasers. It is a lot easier to skirmish with those. You save a lot of weight with the XL, you put that in big weapons and a lot of heat sinks. The heat is very managable in this mech. With a std engine it is not. Or are you replying to dartlassys? His build differs from mine in the OP. This is a variant im also trying atm. It replaces the medium lasers with sml pulse lasers:
I was replying to Sub7s post, sorry forgot to mention this. You are right about the Hunch, but still better to run a STD Engine i think... idk i have a strange feeling with XL Engines in Hunchies.
Me too ^^ Usually i would never use XLs in 50 tonners brawlers like centurion or hunchbacks but this was worth a try. It is fun to use assault mechs weapons on a medium
Well I do agree Blagg Zear about not needing that extra Large pulse laser since you will mostly be engaging where your medium lasers are effective.
I think i would go for PPCs if i'd run the XL275 in this Mech: Brawling at sub350m with XL Engine in the Hunchback is not a good idea i think (even without the Hunch). Maybe you can prove me wrong and make some 700+ Games.
Ik tried ppcs as well but just prefer the wubwubwub and 2 simple control groups. Hardpoints are too low to engage at range with in most cases anyway.
