    Hope.

That's all I have left for MWO and I'm a little surprised it is still there. Probably the influence of the massive amount of cash I've dumped into it. I'm too invested not to have hope.

Desperate Message to PGI: Please for the love of all that is holy give me Solaris VII. I don't care if you directly copy the maps from Mechwarrior 4. I want that game mode. I need that game mode. It would rekindle my love for your game.

I cannot disagree more with the convo's recent tangent, the last thing this game right now needs is more arbitrary pointless arcade combat.

Instead it needs an entire fucking universe that you can interact with in even the most basic manner.

Solaris VII coming out before CW would signal a white flag that PGI is content to have a grand total of 26 people playing their game by 2015 and that the game is for dueling, not for grand scale mech combat (which is what the fuck MW/BT is, period).

Solaris VII is more Armored Core than MW.

    Is it cool? As fuck.

Is it what MWO needs right now? *barf*

What we need is our battles to have purpose or story, something that we can relate to the battletech universe besides the usage of their mechs. Whether that is a giant universe with community warfare or Solaris 7, I don't really care.

However, a Solaris 7 tournament seems much easier to implement in a working fashion (which should be mentioned, since this IS PGI after all) than an entire universe, especially with the low player count that 'entire universe' is going to feel empty once we have it.

Well i guess PGIs respond to Solaris implementation would be something with the meaning of: "Private lobbys. kthxbye"

Btw i would prefer CW to come out first, too.

I am not sold on the whole Community Warfare thing...
It's not that I don't want it, I just don't believe PGI can pull it off in any shape or form that would satisfy those of us that do want it. I do believe that if it does come out, it will either be this games saving grace, or the last nail in it's coffin.

    Think about this.
What we have now is basically an updated form of MW4 without the single player campaign, and less maps. Sure, we can have more people on the battlefield, the mechs are prettier, the maps are prettier (MWLL's were prettier) but the dynamics of the game are pretty much the same... Drop, Kill big stompy robots, drop over.... repeat. They can't balance their game, they can't produce an efficient mech lab (PAY SMURFY SOME MONEY FOR HEAVENS SAKE AND BUY HIS DESIGN... we would all be a lot better off). The short of it is, I don't believe they can pull off CW..... Solaris? That they could probably do..... probably, and at least we would have another mode of play, and maybe a new map, unless they just use the ones they have, which is more likely.

Back when everyone was waiting impatiently for MWO's closed beta to open up I was playing MW4: Mercs with some folks (we called it "training" but it was just good fun and not particularly hardcore). I don't know the exact dimensions so I can't say with certainty but the MW4: Mercs maps seemed huge in comparison to MWO. Scouting had a role on those maps. It was possible for the teams to miss each other entirely and, speaking from the perspective of a light mech pilot, I loved it. You had to consider your team comp and be careful not to get caught out in the open alone while also trying to get some vision on the enemy.

Unfortunately we don't have that in MWO and I don't think we ever will. It is a design choice I don't agree with but understand. PGI didn't want teams to spend 10 minutes trying to find each other. Ok. I get it. Not everyone would like that. Slow-ass Atlas pilots would bitch. People would call the game boring. Ok. Fine. So give me the fast paced game mode I actually want. Everyone for himself arena deathmatch. It's simple. Easy peasey. Just do it.

MWO maps are akin to what has happened with the Battlefield maps: smaller with more focus on putting the players into the fight at the cost of actually having a purpose for niche builds and scouting.

Now with the clan mechs having such an advantage in range on their weapons, I doubt we'll ever get more landscape-type maps that we have seen in other MW games. Hell, even Mechcommander had more wide open terrain than MWO does. I'd rather them clean all the maps up before moving onto a new release that will certainly have invisible walls and whatnot. Maybe change up the established play of the maps by adding rock outcroppings, buildings, etc. But yeah, right. lol

This is - literally - the number one thing I have been trying to 'imagine' when I'm considering current meta from the outside looking in, particularly when I load up smurfy bored at work and try and make a build.

I'm having a really really REALLY hard time seeing how those ranges aren't completely shitting all over the map sizes. I'm actually having to convince myself that it's not a big issue, to downplay it, or even just ignore it and justify it like "oh well the players themselves will figure out how to handle it tactically'" ...but, really? Will they? I dunno cuz I don't play, so, but I'm almost having to just pull the wool over my eyes when I imagine things.

I take solace in some deep-seeded way in the notion that it's most likely the reason why Clan mechs aren't allowed to use big engines, but IS are - that larger range can be shortened by faster IS mechs. It's about Clanners trying to dictate range and IS trying to close in, the way I imagine this meta playing out in my head.

Inb4 people realize that CW also boils down to sets of arbitrary skirmishes, and every game ever is what you chose to make/get out of it. Content can set the stage, but the players act it all out.

The CERPPC is pretty stronk and can zone out an IS sniper. Otherwise, clan mechs have such awful exposure profiles and hard point placement that the amount of firepower on the battlefield makes abusing your range a difficult task on most maps and in most situations*. So closing and moving tactically through the map to slay the enemy teams's out of position stragglers still reigns supreme.

*For example, I'd take an ERLLas RVN-3L or PPC CDA-3M over any harassing clan light. Though that is also due to unfortunately small engine size.

I'm for the Solaris map(s)! While i agree that CW would be better, but i would settle for 1 of the Solaris maps for now. Solaris can have 5-6 maps easily, so releasing just one would be ok. (like Montenegro?)

You want this here in MWO? o_O

I prefer a Multiplayer Campaign, where you have to do 20 Lvls of pure epic historical Madness with a 12 Men Group. But guess that would be too much for PGI.

Yes, I think a weight class free for all would be hilarious.
5 total types for FFA: Light, Medium, Heavy Assault (also known as snarls pace) and Mixed (go up in an ember against that big bad Dire Wolf).

Personal opinion, but that would be hilarious, and everyone would have to rethink their mech design strategy.

And we're back to what it's missing.

What I find fun right now is recon. Taking the fastest, most under-gunned 'mech I have, finding the enemy force, and calling in the cavalry.

My most common frustration with this is that most teams have the 3D logic of a ground slug.

Indeed. I'm generally unimpressed by MWO epeen strokers as the game is still very much a team effort (even if you're running solo and carrying the team). But my opinion would change dramatically if we had Solaris VII with some sort of ranked system. Let's see how many of you fuckers can take me on in a Light Mech Only arena FFA mode. Ho boy. I would play the shit out of that.

Fuck the Great Houses. Fuck the clans. I am a Solaris Jock. I fight for the crowd.

When I was running recon in MW4 mercs we used TRO specs for all our loadouts because "Mechlab OP" and we didn't know what MWO would be like. So my Jenner had crap armor and could be one-shot by just about anything. God damn was that fun.
