Any reason to keep the free Centurian-A if you've got one mastered?

Subject says it all, really. Is there any reason not to strip and sell the free one if someone's already mastered the chassis, since the only difference seems to be an XP boost?

Or, is it best to be safe and strip/sell the old one and refit the free 'upgrade' (which may cost a few C-Bills because of the free version having Artemis on it)?

Just curious what the thoughts are.

I think the smart play here is to spend the few C-Bills and keep the champ. The XP bonus may be worthless now, but who is to say down the road when they redo all the skills that it might not become relevant again. Besides you should make enough selling the first to cover the cost of the artemis switch.

    Good point!

I was leaning this direction as well, just didn't know if there was some overarching reason not to go this way.

    Thanks.

I stripped it and sold it. I didn't keep the first one I mastered. Still a free mechbay and the equipment it comes with, plus the 750,000 cbills was a nice bonus for 5 wins.

The other thing to keep in mind, if you already have a standard Cent-A Mastered; while the XP boost isn't necessary for Mech XP, it does also go for GXP.

I'll sell the champion mech (edit: and keep the standard variant) for two reasons:
    - I really don't care about the XP bonus, and since I don't play the mech that much I won't use it too grind GXP, even if the bonus was significant;
    - I don't want to pay MCs again for my camo pattern.

My reasons for getting rid of it:
    - I don't want to pay MCs again for my camo pattern
    - I want to get back above 50 million cbills (1.6 mill from chassis and extra engine)
    - Centurions, without talking about how shit SRMs are, are in a much more crowded game than 8-10 months ago. They are still good (great) mechs, especially for beginners, but they aren't the staple they used to be.
    - Free mech bay

that's why you don't buy the 1time only camo :)
Plus, that one uses with the free pc gamer camo so that's good enough for me

I've never run a centurion before so I'm keeping it :D even got a make shift shining golder armor for it with orange and white.

SRMs work 50% of the time I suppose, at least the first time I took this baby out I got 3 kills and >400 damage, nothing unlocked, only changed loadout to 2xML+3xSRM6.

The only thing that worries me is the reasoning behind this promotion. I suspect that this is very VERY heavily focused on getting people to play the game again, which took a big hit after the mediocre release of UI2.0. While they may get some side benefits of some newer people still wanting to buy the other Centurion variants, as shown above more experienced players really aren't gonna be coming back for a free mech that's already mastered and stuff, except for the free mechbay perhaps. I don't know, this 'promotion' gives me the chills that they're actually doing pretty bad with the game, even though everyone was buying firestarters and sale mechs a while ago. Might be a quick cash in before they pull the plug shortly after a half implementation of CW?

I'm getting the doomsayer vibe here, and I guess I shouldn't be too worried.

I kept mine and stripped then sold my standard A variant.

I got a free mech bay out of the deal and all the equipment that comes with that Champion plus I also got 750,000 cbills for selling my previous CN9-A which isn't too shabby in this day and age of cheap rewards for wins.

Who knows, some day the SRMs might actually work again and I may wanna bring out ye olde zombie!!!

Same here, I have my paintjob unlocked already so all I have to do is to reapply it.

I stripped everything out of my old CN9-A and sold it, then retool the champion to my liking, which only takes a minute including the paintjob.

Sucks for me because I already owned the champion. Oh well, I'll take the free Mech Bay but reserve the right to be butthurt I don't also get a new 'mech.

Highly doubt PGI will read this or care but here is a suggestion: If you ever do another "free 'mech" promotion like this consider a making completely new and/or special mech that hasn't already been available. Perhaps one with a paint scheme unavailable to other 'mechs of it's chassis. If you do this everyone who earns it will be that much more proud they did.

Well, no. The one time camo cost something like 10 time less and still allows you to change colors as long as you keep the pattern. Even if I had paid twice my camo, I still would have paid way less than a full unlock.

I'm currently grinding the Centurions as I couldn't resist the Yen-Lo-Wang 50% offer, so this plays in my hands.
Just unfortunate I bought the regular CN9-A for C-Bills...

    The YLW is pretty shitty.
You have much better AC20 carriers, like the BJ-1 and the SHDs with jumpjets and a higher hardpoint, or the hunchback whose hunch is still sturdier than the arm it's put in at the YLW, and which carries an extra laser. If you really want a low-slung AC20, there's still the CTF-1X with AC20 and 5ML.
IF you want dual AC5s there's the CN9-D but preferably even the shadowhawk 5M which can do much better with high hardpoints and jumpjets.

However, I think that the CN9-A with regular zombiebuild is definitely a fun addition to my garage, have had only wins in it so far and a K/D ratio of 3.5 regardless of the SRM hit detection. Having the missile bay doors on an easily accessible buttonm lets you effectively switch when you need reliable damage or a sturdier LT. Still that's only over around 10 matches so far. AL can be a regular energy boat like I love them (might take over the build for my HBK-4J and I put actual missiles on the hunchie), the CN9-D has a really nice max engine limit So I'm thinking of an XL370 with 2MG, 2ML, 2SRM6.

While you are certainly right with some of your arguments; it's Yen-lo-Wang. Dot.

Kind of like having the cadet bonus again for five games..

It's totally worth it, even just for the extra CBills and the mechbay..

Am I the only one who just.. doesn't care? I mean, I ought to be all over this, it's a great promotion, but I can't even bring myself to login lately.

The cynic in me says that a deal like this is a response to diminishing player numbers after they released UI 2.0.

You are not alone in that thought. I have had several discussions with clan mates who feel that this is the Hail Mary in the 4th quarter, the third period, bottom of the 9th!

The Yen-Lo-Wang should be renamed to Yen-Lo-Bang!
