great, these things will only be useful on mastered chassis. That, and the LL module seems the most use full to me.
No way the heat is worth it, but if they want anyone to use these, they need to make a dedicated weapon module slot instead of using one of the generic ones. For anyone that's actually unlocked these, do you get to pick if you want to use a Tier 1 or Tier 2 or do you always default to the highest unlocked (like the 'advanced' uac/seismic/etc modules we have currently)?
Yeah I looked at all of them, and couldn't justify the range bonus to the heat detriment. Haven't bought a one.
I don't get to choose with my medium laser module. It's all level 2 all the time. I also seem to find this more useful than many members of the community. I have a couple of builds, my spider for example, that get good use out of it. This build has a large laser paired with 2 mediums and I'm always fighting in the 300-500 meter range it seems. The medium laser module allows me to get a lot more use out of my medium lasers while generating a little more heat in an already low heat build. I also use it in my Cicada with 6 MLas and great heat efficiency, and my raven-3L with MLas and streaks. It's not for every build, but if you find you're consistently fighting about the standard range of the weapon they can really tack on some damage. Edit: I will also add that I'm troubled you can't select what level of weapon module you want (or maybe it's just another thing in UI2.blow that is eluding me). Maybe my spider wants level 5 since it only fires 2 medium lasers, but my cicada with 6 lasers would never want that sort of heat and would want level 2 or something. There's nothing I can do to help them both out. I can't even buy a "level 2" module to use in one of the mechs. Right now it's all or nothing. :/
I got the AC5 upgrade just to test the concept and it's worked fine on my Thunderbolt and Victors. Unlocked the AMS aswell but haven't bought it. Will once I feel like running a dual AMS build. Weeee....
I think that's a typo. The AC2 long range get's boosted by 75m, so the maxrange should be 225m, not 125. Thinking about the AC5's though, there is really no downside to this module. At Level 5, 0.1 extra heat is still almost nothing and you can keep firing 3 without any heat buildup using only 10 DHS, while an extra 65/195 m is a pretty decent boost to range.
I have the M Las weapon module , tier 2, on my HBK-4P and no noticeable difference in heat build up. So yeah works well on the 9MLas 4P
I guess, what is the difference between stupidly hot and omfg hot? I run it on my 4P as well, but I make extra damn sure not to alpha it and have the extra heat contribute to my heat death.
I bought both the SSRM2 range module and the same for AMS. The former gets used in every mech of mine mounting more than 3 or more SSRM launchers while the AMS module sits in my STK-5S. The added range on the Streaks is nice, but I am waiting for additional upgrades here. The double AMS of the Stalker now usually use up my single ton of ammo even earlier, which attests to the effectiveness of the AMS module in my view.
I kind of think your over reacting to the heat. Even with 6 medium lasers you've only raised your heat (0.96) which isn't even 1 point on top of your already 24 heat your expending.... That 4% definitely seems worth it to me on certain builds in certain situations at least from a heat prospective. The better questions is it worth giving up a module slot that you could have arty/air in which I would think gives you much more damage potential if you can use them right then a range mod.
It seems that AMS and MG may be good though. AMS is an obvious upgrade for the module with no penalty, so did the extra MG range, if you go all the way to Tier5.
