lol yeah no shit, especially how martin's always like "but WAIT, ____ is COMING JUST WAIT..!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-N7-5DanVsA
Frankly I could give a shit less. This has no effect on my life what so ever. There is no reason for someone to rage like people have been for this. Dont like it, dont play or pay. Pretty simple. Asides from mechbuilds on this site, the MWO community is dead to me.
I am curious about something..... If clan mechs are supposed to be balanced with the IS then why are they more expensive in packs?
I don't think the clan mechs and technology on a 1v1 basis are going to be balanced, nor has PGI claimed that level of balance. The examples they gave in the Command Chair update were talking about dumbed down clan-tech that is still superior to inner-sphere. in other words, tone down the clan tech a bit in addition to tonnage restriction specific to clan mechs/groups. That's what I got from it anyway.
They postpone everything that would improve the game and just add stuff for purchase. I have enough stuff for THIS limited mode of play already, no need to add overpriced clan mechs to it. Faction warfare AFTER clan invasion ? I don't think so. I think after Clan invasion and prior to faction warfare we'll see the "warbreed" ... a new collection of IS Mechs that was pulled out of mothballs as a last line of defense against the clanners ... only 99$ per mech. Or another money grab similar to this. Oh and right before faction warfare we'll see "Clan invasion, the second wave" ... new Clan mechs with limited platinum skins. Oh and when faction warfare is almost out there will be "IS war heroes" ... a series of IS mechs with special hardpoints and an additional module slot. Yeah. I'll just wait and see.
Well, to be fair if it is sold at $120 it would be a bargain. There is 90 days of premium, and 24 mech+mechbays, so it is less than $5 per mech. But as we know it they will not do that. At best they will provide a 20% discount, and probably less, in the form of an extra 30 days of premium or something. Oh, even for that tactic the golden turd is still stupid. I mean $500? Not even if the mech is indestructable and can respawn in any planet and have unlimited ammo...But then again it would be totally p2w. I don't care if it comes with a kiss from the IGP CEO, it is still rediculous. On the side note, if you compare to their Phoenix Project sales, the phoenix project actually give you loads of extras, which makes is acceptable with the earlybird package. This one has a totally illogical price hike.
I've been doing a guess-work analysis of the phoenix package compared to the top clan package. Assuming: Mechbays for clans are the same cost (if not more, making it an even better deal) Clan mechs are worth more in MC, by the equivalent of a mech 5 tons heavier. As a person cannot buy the phoenix premium mechs and some are not available, I chose similar mechs with hero variants and compared the pricing. Disclaimer, this is pure speculation and guess-work. I'm only trying to reference what we already know to predict what might happen. Commando DK 1875 1B 680 1D 700 Kintaro GB 4125 18 1790 19 1840 Jager FB 4875 A 2190 DD 3410 Victor DS 6000 9K 3085 9S 2980 Total: 44659MC including mechbays and premium time Now if we assume clan mechs cost more, we can make a guesstimate with the mechs we already have: Jenner OX 2625 D 1205 F 1160 Kintaro GB 4125 18 1790 19 1840 Orion P 5625 K 2605 V 2655 Highlander HM 6750 732 3615 733 3405 x2 (for 24 total mechs) total: 89500MC including mechbays and premium time. Now if we look at the $100 package alone (being the best deal) we can see that the equivalent MC to dollar for both packages. Phoenix = 1.786 of $100 packages. This translates to ~$178 worth of MC content Clans = 3.58 of $100 packages. This translates to ~$358 worth of MC content Now take them and compare their purchased value: Phoenix = $178 / $80 = 2.23 (value of each dollar spent) Clans = $358 / $240 = 1.49 (value of each dollar spent) As we can see, the value of your dollar is much lower in the Clan package with the assumptions that I have made. Of course, the value of the package might increase once we know more about the cost of clan mechs and how much greater they will be. The Mechs I chose are solely comparing the closest thing to phoenix MC pricing as I can, then slightly improving what we got in phoenix as a place-holder for clan mechs. I could have matched the closest tonnage of the future clan mechs to existing mech and I probably will do that next for another level of detail. Definitely not worth the "deal" at this point IMO
Somewhere in Russ's post he says that the Clan mechs are priced higher because of the tech. So when they're eventually available for C-Bills their price tags will be significantly higher than IS mechs. So their MC price reflects that as well. Not sure how I feel about that but there you have it. Edit: Here is the exact quote for those of you who care. "With the Clan packages you are paying what equates to $30 per prime variant. But remember our pricing of MC in MWO has a relationship between MC and CB costs. Clan Technology is significantly more expensive, and is reflected in the package pricing."
Russ explained it is because their CBill costs are much higher, and there is a relationship between MC and CB costs. Though that doesn't make much sense since if you look at say a Firebrand versus a Jester, the Firbrand should theoretically cost more CBills since it comes with an XL engine, yet they both have the same MC price.
Continuation: I compared equal tonnage of the new clan mechs to mechs currently in the game and I came to about the same price I had already come up with. With that in-mind. I next bumped up each weight class just to see how the price would be effected. This assumes: that a 35 ton light Clan mech is the equivalent of a 55 ton Medium IS mech that a 55 ton medium Clan mech is the equivalent of a 65 ton Heavy IS mech and that a 65 ton heavy Clan mech is the equivalent of a 85 ton Assault mech the average increase in MC from that change is +50%. So I applied that to the Assault class mechs. Even making that radical assumption, the overall MC cost of the $240 clan package is 121391MC which comes out to be 2.02 per dollar value. Still not as good phoenix package value... and that is assuming MUCH more expensive mechs. Like I said, an average MC increase of 50%... After that guess-work comparison, I can see the values are beginning to align. Although a 50% increase is pretty steep IMO. So if Clan mechs are going to be worth ~75% more than an IS mech of the equivalent weight, then the package would be a comparable deal to the phoenix package.
I assume the difference Russ means isn't "tech prices" specifcially but more like Clan vs. IS tech price differences. Hero mechs up to this point have all been priced on a 75 MC per Ton ratio. But a clan mech is more expensive (MC and C-Bills) than an IS mech of equal weight. Obviously all we can do is take their word for it because all we've seen is the price of the mechs and not the price of the equipment... but we know that all clan mechs come with XL engines, double heat sinks, and clan tech weapons. So... maybe worth it?
I've pre-ordered the entire Clan package and I have a brain. Why? I absolutely love this game; it is hands-down the most fun game I have ever played, no contest. And it is only 5% as good as it could be, so the future of this game has the potential to be very, very bright. Anybody who just says "FUCK PGI," why are you still visiting a site dedicated to a game they make? Why not just quit playing the game? And if you have already, why are you still talking about it on forums? If you still like the game and play it but are upset about the pricing structure, guess what? IT'S STILL FUCKING FREE TO PLAY!!!! You just have to play it, for FREE, to get the in-game currency to buy the shit they're selling to impatient people like myself for real cash. If you're upset about the grind of the game and how long it takes to buy the stuff: it's supposed to be fun! If you feel like you're doing the daily grind of a desk job, just doing it for the C-Bills, then you probably shouldn't be doing it at all because apparently you aren't enjoying the process. If you're upset because you are a founder and feel like you didn't get what you paid for, that is somewhat understandable but A.) That's a known risk of funding any project before its completion and B.) There is good reason to believe that many of the things we are hoping for are still in the works and will be implemented. I myself have spent over $600 on this game, so I count myself among the people with the most justification for having negative things to say. While I do have many criticisms, I try to keep them constructive and mature rather than "FUCK PGI! It costs too much! Gimme everything now!" And a final comment on the gold skins so many people are pissed off about. Why the hell do you care about that? If you don't want to spend $500 on a gold mech, then don't! It's that simple! Anybody who does buy one is helping to keep the game running for all the people who play for free, so you should be thanking every rich fucker who actually buys one. And they should also be primary targets if they're on the enemy team, because it's very satisfying to shoot rich people! In conclusion, if you're one of the ragers, please turn down your childish entitlement-driven temper tantrum and return the forums to people who actually enjoy the game.
I couldn't follow your calculation. I'm soo confused now. F*ck you are a mathematician or what? But i have the feeling you are saying right things. Clan Mechs are more expensive than Phoenix Mechs. I knew it! Grrrrrrr. So cheers on you
Nope, not rich at all, that is money spread over since the founders packs came out. I just like the game that much. Founders + Overlord + Saber + Clan pack + 2 injections of $100 worth of MC = $620. I was surprised when I did the math, but there it is. I really shouldn't have, but as you know, I'm addicted.
