So, I've been reading lately some posts about assault mechs carring some big guns and how they would be OP and unbalance the game (even further). I.e. some Founders posts said that dual ballistic mechs like jager or cata would disapear because of this and some where openly fearing the deadly power of such armored unstopable monster. I must say I've liked the idea of big mech with big guns (I mean this is what's mechs are about, right..). So I've dig in a little bit.. and I'm not sure about all the fuss. Sure you can say it will be over powerd, but you can say same is with Spiders like here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAyUALMpiK4 or here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzppYxd7PiE Here is a proposition of Atlas with dual AC20 (if it would have +1 ballistic) from forum (not mine): http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=17&l=d98119df248572b8a906e82b0380bca3ee3a3d7c The guy missed with slots (should be 10 left) so ECM and ammo would have to go. This build is super slow though and without AMS and ECM (and no jumpjets!) I can't understand why its considered over powerd.. So my question is: What is in your opinion best ingame assault mech Theoretical build with dual ballistics?
Nope. Dual AC/20s with options for 600 armor and 100 rounds possible? Nope. Even if slow, even no JJ or AMS. No way. AC/20s are viable up to about 650m and even in what would basically become a turret, people would still mount SRMs/LRMs/Lasers on them to give them the longer range or RIDICULOUS alphas. I think the BoomJags and BoomCats should hold the titles for the ability to mount this crazy combo. Gauss gets even more ridiculous... Post nerf, dual Gauss is still incredibly powerful.
Look. This is a Theorycrafty, not a game implementation to do. I'm just asking what would you build if it would be possible. I'm not intending to wreack your house with it. Yes, its probably OP, but the question is how much smack can you give it
Because... Even with focus fire, it would be much more difficult to take down compared to a Jager or Kat. It would win any other brawl with the shear pin-point damage with even more firepower thrown in compared to the Jager or Kat. It would be the brawling meta instantly. http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=18&l=188bacc793425affa8bdf08694172c15c48e6b80 data provided by Jager (same weapons and DHS) http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=18&l=a03a57b45e903c17bb268388bdfdb9bd46728859 data provided by Cataphract (same weapons and DHS)
i like the concept of having multiple big Cannons on an Assault. When you remember the Annihilator http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Annihilator with 4x LB-X AC10s !!! FTW! The 1G Variant even had 3x GAUSS !!!!!!! FTW!!!!!!!! the Annihilator C even had 4x UAC/10s!!!! FT-Universe!!!!!!!!!!
It's a shame really as I'd love to see my old time favourite the King Crab get put in. Just look at this little guy.
From across Mordor! A little different than a brawl. If he even had one Gauss it probably would have been game over man, game over! Two would have just been a quick death. True, in this particular situation, another AC20 wouldn't have saved him, but in an actual close-range brawl it would devastate just like the Boom Jager or Kat, but with the survivability to outlast them.
I feel I should mention that the King Crab also had a variant armed with dual Gauss in addition to all the dual AC/20 builds.
