Do any of you remember the Closed Beta when Awesomes ran almost 100kph and could vaporize almost anything in short order with 7 Medium pulse lasers? Well, those days are back! All you need is $100 for the Phoenix pack (for the Battlemaster) and Boar's Head (for the XL400), and you'll have everything you need to smother yourself in Closed Beta trolling nostalgia. But, seriously folks, don't do this.
How do you fire the Wubs? in Weapongroups, Chainfire, Alphastrike? Need some feedback, because i've never mounted more than four MPLas in a Mech because of several reasons..
with 24 heat sinks, and MPLas don't have ghost heat, you can Alpha this thing 4 times nearly consecutively before overheat (not on a hot map though)
Wow that's Impressive. I wonder if this works on the Thunderbolt which has an awesome survivability with a STD Engine
I decided to test out this build on the TBolt, and it is definitely an interesting loadout. I ran it with a ST275 Engine and 21 DHS, though I'm thinking trading 1 DHS for the extra speed would definitely help since you need to close fast to get into the MPLas range. Unfortunately, during testing I was only able to get either Caustic Valley or Terra Therma, which are not the best places to test this loadout, especially without any of the efficiencies unlocked. Anyways, firing everything at once is fun, though on these maps, you will overheat in three alphas. Surprisingly, what is more interesting is to fire all seven in chain fire mode, which lets you shoot a constant stream of WubWub. The cooldown for the MPlas is 3 sec, and the beam duration is 0.6 sec, for a total cycle time of 3.6 seconds, which is covered almost perfectly when chain-firing all seven. If you keep it focused on the CT, you can core most heavies before you overheat. Just a quick video to show the chainfire in action. It takes down the Catapult in about 9 seconds, and overheats in about 13 seconds. I'll try to post something with this mech in action, though I'm new to this video stuff and it may take me awhile. That's all well and good, but how does it fare in real life? Well, so far, its actually much better than I had expected. Here's a pic of my best match, and as I said, I've only been able to try it out on Caustic and Terra so far. This mech would really shine in Frozen City where you can engage at short range, and you don't have to worry about heat as much.
wow looks damn impressive! I think i will run the TDR-5SS with 7 MPLas! Definitely a fun build! There is another Mech, which you can overload with MPLas: or:
Some video proof that the build works. It's an end-of-match clip posted by Dangerzone, and it shows him mopping up in true trollsome fashion.
I decided to give this a go last night - I am a sucker for a good MPLas build. Took me about three rounds to get the hang of it (kept getting squished without acheiving much), but once I did I started racking up 3-4 kill games quite regularly. It certainly can be effective, and it's nothing if not fun! Best round was on Terra Therma even! - I was first into the crater, realised my team was not following, and had to bolt out a side door. Three mechs followed me, a BJ, a CPLT and a JM6. I ducked round the corner, turned, and melted the BJ in front in about 2 alphas. A friendly SHD flanking round the side came up as well and I think they panicked, thinking there were more mechs there. The CPLT fell down into the magma and the JM6 backed off. Me and the SHD jumped down after the CPLT and I cored him out pretty quick. So within about a minute of fighting we were 2-0 up. After that, things pretty much snowballed and the rout was on. Great fun!
That's the beauty of the MPlas builds. Because of the short range, its incredibly easy to focus fire directly on the CT, and you can melt through anyone's in a few seconds.
I was playing around with this last night. I can't quite afford an XL400 engine yet so I was running an XL350. I got shoulder cored in the first couple of games I played and I had a heap of spare tonnage so I decided to try a STD version. I haven't had any great games in it yet, but I think the potential is there. I am looking forward to buying the XL400 though! (then once I buy it the boarshead will be on special the next day!)
Given how fast the MPlas can cut though even assault CT armor... I'm tempted to replace one with a pair of MG + ammo
