Variation with backup lasers (or Medium Laser): Pepe le Pew Pew This loadout works pretty well! Find a position where you will not be focused, pop your hunch over some cover, and fire until the dynamic of the battle requires you to shift. Use your 5 Jump Jets to pop over scenery, perch upon it, or escape when you've been found out. The AC2 will help mask the pain of your Gauss rounds from the target, as well as provide a blinding effect with proper aim. If you take position to either side of the battle, you may have an easier opportunity punching through the enemy's exposed back armor before they decide to turn around. It is important not to push too far forward, else you will likely find yourself focused, surrounded, or otherwise confronted with an unfortunate situation that will result in a low-effectiveness match. If you are keeping range (as you should be), the Shadow Hawk's tanky-ness will do a sufficient job of protecting your Gauss-addled XL-toting Left Torso. Shooting over cover will go a long way towards your extended health. To demonstrate how tanky the SHD is (in a 2H(P) ): I spent half of this round mostly cored from the two heavies who I encountered while running back to defend base... ...and through use of advantageous positioning and cover, I still managed to pull off a decent round! If you stay back far enough, enemies will often ignore you in favor of your more evident teammates. Just don't stay in the same place *too* long. http://i.imgur.com/ytFlXB9.jpg[/img] Keep these thoughts in mind, and you will have a more enjoyable time in this sniping mech.
First off, your screenshots should not count because you could get 700 damage in a Honda Civic... However, this mech looks pretty damn intimidating. Gauss, 2x AC/2, crazy cooling and enough ammo for 900 damage... Imma have to try this baby out.
What?! XD I was just hoping my screenshots would show people that it's okay to have a gauss and an XL in the SHD... Not my best match, but one that's exemplary in the context. Of course, any mech played correctly will produce a good round. =) Honda Civic wat?! Hehe... Just 1xAC2- but it's still a powerful armament considering you never overheat. ^^
Your screenshots show a 2H with 2x AC5 and an AC2 (a fun build). But it's good to know the gauss works in the SH with an XL.
Haha! What was I thinking last night...? Thanks for pointing this out! I changed some of the wording so that the pictures are more relevant.
Ran a few rounds with this. (XL260, 1x JJ, armored up the right arm and threw in a MLas for defense) Didn't quite eek out the same damage, but, still an incredibly effective long range fighter. I'm still toying around a lot to find my favorite builds for the new mechs and this is in my top 3 for the Hawks. Extraordinarily cool, great sustained DPS from long range. One of the best suppressive fire mechs I've run. This speed for repositioning, the fast lead from the AC/2 making people duck and the Gauss pinning them down. I really enjoyed running this pup! Good on ya, Skyer.
